Parking Courtesy

The readers have come up with a few suggestions to keep Pammy in business. We doubt she'll take anyone up on them though:
  • Start at "reverend" Meeks church. Courtesy double parking blocking streets, sidewalks and curb cutouts for blocks around. And if rumors are to be believed, on-duty tact teams providing all sorts of free traffic control and direction at the behest of the District Commander.
  • Work your way north from there. All sorts of "reverends" demanding (and receiving) parking courtesies from Commanders they helped appoint.
But that wouldn't be politically correct, would it Pammy? Would anyone believe how often we see media vans parked illegally on hydrants, bus stops and no parking zones, yet they never get written because HQ non-suits media tickets as (wait for it...) a courtesy!

Parking courtesy is just that, a courtesy. If Pammy needs it in writing, let's just have the print shop make up 'Courtesy Parking Only' signs and Streets and San can deliver them to each venue before the event. Post them over existing signage and let's be done with this petty little issue.

How about

Sweet Holy Spirit Church
8621 South Chicago

Bishop Larry Trotter.....

There's a politician tie there, right?...Any relation to Donne?

Double parked for blocks on South Chicago every Sunday.

Then they get offended when an emergency vehicle on a call blocks their exit.

NAIL 'EM ALL!!!

Drive down Racine on a Sunday around 78th street...
1) TRIPLE parking (racine is BLOCKED)
2)hydrant parking
3)sidewalk parking
4)a certain Escalade owned by a priest of St. Sabina parked in said street (initials M.P.)

So driving home I have to turn off Racine, shoot down to Morgan (cause the other streets are blocked) and then drive back to Racine because.....the REVERAND Mike Faker has a mass going on? Yet, zero tickets are given to these people? Why? Because we are told this would be "bad" public relations. OK, whatever boss, but how the hell does Fr. Faker afford a Caddilac Escolade on his "meager" salary? Investigate that Pam or don't you want to anger the "scary people"?

When I officially gave up on the media was when Officer Nathaniel Taylor was killed in the line of duty. The Sun Times, who is often quick to judge our SPLIT SECOND LIFE OR DEATH DECISIONS, ran the name as DANIEL Taylor. They had a FULL DAY to get this headline right as PO Taylor was shot at approximately 6am and the headline occurred the next printing. How did the Sun Times apologize? Online ran a cover with the right name. NEVER reprinted a cover with the right name (on the FRONT page). This right then proved to me that the media could care less about us.

I watched Zekman's piece and what really made me wonder was the end whan she was live in the studio with her two ass-kissing anchors. Pam states that the "fans are FURIOUS" over this development to which her cohorts respond "i'm sure they are. It's expensive to park." During this interview, Pam had the time to speak to 3 cops, 4 people trying to park and kept filming others trying to park. Yet, she only had the time to interview ONE (1) person who was upset about this practice? Interviewed same guy in Cub pullover. This institutes a "FURIOUS" reaction? Buddy of mine said he was asked about the parking and he responded "wish i got here early to get it." He's not a cop. Where is this on Pam's report? Pam had nothing, so being the useless, talentless, lazy reporter that she is, she ran the ONE guys quote to get her sheep to baaaahhhhh.

Remember, the MOST important day for the CPD is coming up: MAY 3RD, St. Jude march. Yes, the media will give it limited coverage to show how they "love" us. Ignore them. Don't speak to them. But if they corner you, be courtious. This day is not about us, it's about PO Francis, PO Taylor and PO Airhart. This is not a time to air our grievances. It's about those who have fallen to protect those who don't understand what we do, why we do it. It's a time to be filled with pride that you are doing good. At the end of that march there are people waving signs in support. There are posters of those that have fallen. There are widows and children of the fallen. And yes, there are citizens there to support us, people who may have never called for our service, yet there to say thank you. These are the people we march for, the people the media will never speak to. These are the people that make my eyes tear up at the end of St. Jude every time. These are the people that make me proud to wear the uniform of the CPD. If anything, show up for them. Disregard the Zekman's. Disregard the media in general. Just march because you are proud of what you do. Just march for those who have fallen. March to see the happiness on PO Taylor's daughters face. Do it because we are proud. No matter what the media says, these moments can't be taken away from you. Please march in St. Jude. It really does mean a lot to others. Stay safe

There is a church at 83rd and South Chicago that is always a mess with illegally parked vehicles. They are double parked, on hydrants and there are many-many compliance violations (i.e. missing plates, cracked windshields, no city sticker, etc.). The WC often says "give them a break...we got a call."

OT

I only wish our union leadership was made up of Rottweilers instead of Chihuahuas ! This would have been the perfect opportunity to show strength and solidarity and our continued resolve over contract issues AND extend our NO CONFIDENCE vote to the superintendent and mayor.

IMAGINE ! No one shows up for the mayors' St. Jude's Parade but we all attend an alternative St. Jude's Memorial, fully honoring our fallen brothers but rejecting the arrogant politicians and exempts ? News coverage ? I think so ! Maybe next year if we still don't have a contract !

IMAGINE ! Embarrassing those who think they can just walk all over us and have us watch their cars for them while they enjoy free parking and opening day at the ballpark ?

Shouldn't FOP try to continue our emergence of activism as a Union and continue our assault against unfair bargaining practices and ineffective leadership in our Department ?

Was ONE march around City Hall enough to create any change ?

We need to KEEP PRESSURING and embarrassing the mayor, don't we ?

Why wasn't there a subsequent no confidence vote taken at the last FOP meeting to verify and strengthen the original vote and show it was not just a fluke, or just a small minority of disgruntled officers, as the superintendent suggested ?

Will our union leadership appear at the hopefully heavily attended meeting of the pension board ?

You know that if the union were to show up, it would be newsworthy and the media would probably cover it ?

The Wilbur Milktoast leadership that we accept from our union, is all we will ever get. Don't expect any inspiration from them... they seem as clueless as the mayor and won't step outside of their comfort zone unless forced to do so !

Working in 001, I am proud to day that I have hung tickets on every news vehicle(CBS, ABC, NBC) in the last 2 days. ZERO Tolerance

Just because they are a media vehicle DOES NOT give them Special Dispensation to park illegally. That News Media parking credentials they all display gives them the authority to park in areas that have signs posted for them to park. According to what Ive read.
CBS2-Hope Potbellys was good.
ABC7-Bus Stops are a no-no
NBC5/Telemundo- Chipolte is in 15min loading zone.

CBS Channel 2 has been opting to use their "unmarked" Dodge Durango the last 2 days!!

Forgive me for writing the tickets, but if what you say is correct then they are non-suited at HQ anyway. Revenue neutral but I had fun doing it.

Time to start taking pictures and sending them to SCC.

The only ones on a restricted allowance are the nuns, about a $100 dollars a month. Any money a nun makes goes directly to the church. This does not apply to the priests. The priests have a much larger stipend.

Most priests do not take a vow of poverty-all nuns do.

That's why they keep having to raise money to support the old nuns-there's never a fundrasing drive to save the old priests from poverty. Because they are not poor.

Absolutely correct. The mayor doesn't go to St Jude and as near as I can tell, never has.

I wrote a letter to Mayor Daley asking why I never saw him at a St Jude parade. I sent this in May 1997. A few weeks later, in June 1997, I got a reply from Thomas P. Needham, then Assistant to the Mayor. My Needham explained that Sunday is special to the mayor, that he reserves it for his family.

I like days with my family too but I guarantee if I were mayor of this city I would never miss a St Jude parade no matter what my family had planned.

Mayor Daley had us pushed off of Michigan Ave and doesn't have the decency to ever attend this one day to honor for men and women who gave everything for this city.

Those same men and woman paid into the pension fund that the mayor's pal Allison Davis and his nephew Robert Vanecko have been looting.

I still have that letter from Mr. Needham. I looked into my old files to see exactly who signed the thing. Sure enough it was there in one file of letters, stapled to the envelope.

It's OK Mayor Daley, don't break tradition now, please stay away. I am sure you know how much you are despised by most police officers anyway. Have a nice day with your family. I will be with my extended family in blue.

Who the hell wrote this?!?

I have gone to almost every St. Jude Parade for 32 years. When I started, Richard J. Daley was there and this current mayor wouldn't make a pimple on his ass.

We go there not for the mayor, or for the bosses, but for each other and our departed. If we make a big show, then Shortshanks knows we have power.

Stay safe, screw Daley, he won't be there, and show up and march.

The problem is that she emphasized the officers just doing what they are ordered to do, and the part of her story you speak of got lost in the telling of the tale.

Why was the leading blurb, and the emphasis throughout her piece, all about 'cops giving a pass to .....'?

Why wasn't the leading blurb, and emphasis throughout, instead, 'clouted/connected to city hall insiders get free parking, with cops being ordered to play parking valets, while our streets are running red with blood, as a result of patrol being so grossly undermanned'?
