If this is the best that Pam Zekman can claim as "investigative reporting", then Channel 2 needs to join the Sun-Time and Tribune in the "Going Out of Business Club".
There's a load of graft and corruption in this city. Why aren't you investigating it?
The media is NOT reporting it because Illinois is a ghetto thanks to these dumbass politicians overtaxing us and ruining commerce!! You think crime is high now and all of you are going call to call? Furthermore, how about a good ole pax501 stating to p.o.s to order any media van driver to move out of said illegal parking spot, if they refuse they are arrested (refusal to obey a police officer) AND MOST KEY be backed up by the dept. Two can play by this game. The media are the biggest bunch of hypocrites ever and together with the lawyers and the democratic party will be the death of America.

I can appreciate the inconvenience the parking situation presents but it is the same for everyone else. Its a big deal to the rest of us when government employees give themselves a pass. You see it as a simple solution to your parking problem. The rest of us see it as just one more way government screws the rest of us but lets its own off the hook.
Maybe something you should bring up in contract negotiations.

I, for one, think Zekmans piece is going to be HILARIOUS! I mean, these spots that are being held are for gold stars only! Particularly, that strip of coned off street in front of McDonalds next to Wrigley! I have been going to Cubs games for YEARS and have watched as the kiss ass PO from special events lays into us blue shirts for attempting to procur one of these spots. I drove down to the game once (my mistake) and I couldnt find any decent parking for under $30... The game had started and there were a few of these "chosen spots" still open. I drove up to the Sgt over there, flashed him my badge, and simply asked "any suggestions?" He laughed and said "nope, but you arent parking here...these spots are reserved!" Not 2 minutes Mauer pulls up, the cones get moved, and he strolls into the game... It worked out though, as I tossed a ticket book in the window and parked in 023 lot... But these privileged lots are alive and well and the Cell, Wrigley, and the UC for sure... I guess there are some upset that pammy is about to expose these spots, I say GOOD JOB! Do NOT be dellusional and think these were there for any run of the mill blue shirt and now Zekman is fucking with us...no no no these were white shirt VIP spots and now even the clouted up heavy boss that makes $130,000 a year may have to drop 30 bucks like the rest of us??? BOO FUCKING HOO!!!
I think this summer we are going to put plexiglass around the squad car windows, barb wire on the bumpers and go death race on this punks.

Two incidents in 001 in the last couple weeks along the lake front (randolph-wacker-lsd area). Groups of teenage M/1's attacked tourists . One was a robbery (3 arrested handled by 018 tact) the other a battery , nobody in custody. Type of activity becoming very common on north end of 001. Never see it in the media

Ohhh, thats right the Reverends are trying to prevent a strip club from opening by a garbage dump off the expressway, which was once a abandon building, which now empoloyee's over a 100 people.
Pam Zekman was at the Cubs opener asking the PO's assigned to that specific unit if they were going to tow the cars that were parked in no-parking zones. This involved a whopping 12 cars. Zekman was also asking people how much they paid to park and if it was right that that they had to pay while these 12 people didn't. Wow! That's some investigative reporting! In a city overrun with corruption and crime, let's do a report on free parking!
How many times have the news vans parked in front of fire hydrants at a scene? How many times do they double park at a scene? What percentage of the time do they get a free pass? The media has a complete double-standard. They can do whatever they want and that's fine in their eyes because their story is so important to the world. The media worries about the CPD covering things up. Who covers their asses more than the media? I remember when Walter "skippy" Jacobson got DUI'd on the northside. Skippy said that he had one glass of wine all night, the cops said he was drunk. What did the media report? That he had only one glass of wine and the police were targeting skippy. But if it was a cop, it would be headline news with a mugshot popping up on your tv.
Back to the parking issue. Yes, some people get to park for nothing, that is true. Some other "businesses" get discretionary funds in the millions per year (aldercreatures 1-50) and this is looked into and followed how? TIF's are in the billions and where is this money being used? Who is getting it? Billions are in the account from the sale of the skyway, meters, midway, but yet the city is broke? Possible layoffs of 1,600 city workers because the city is broke? Why doesn't Zekman look into this? Why doesn't she ask why does the city have 3 carwashes that are used for city vehicles, and yet, with a city that is miles and miles long and wide, 2 of the 3 carwashes are in Bridgeport? Owned by Daley acquaintences to boot. Why not investigate why the CPD is understaffed? Why not ask the residents of the 008th district who live in the west end why do they have to wait 8 hours to get police service? Why not investigate Ceasefire and where the money actually goes? Crime downtown and on the biggest tourist spot in the midwest, Navy Pier, is getting worse. Why not look into how this could cause a loss of tourism dollars? Nope. Let's focus on 12 cars parked outside of Wrigley. If we showcase this to the world, all Chicago's problems will disappear. Wow Pam, Walter Cronkite would be amazed at your "investigative" talent. Stay safe.
"Media" may also not be reporting nonsensational local crime because there are few journalists left in Chicago. Chicago Tribune reporting staff has been gutted. SunTimes reporting staff was gutted years ago. Local news stations are little better than "US Magazine" media. With exception of Crains Chicago weekly business newspaper, quality crime reporting no longer occurs in Chicago unless there is a some aspect which may be low-brow entertainment of sorts (Drew Peterson circus, for instance). That same lack of substantiative reporting gives our Mayor, Alderpersons, and Cook County government officials the low-profile, no scrutiny, no questions environment which allows corruption and crime to fester.

I wonder if Ald. Sharon D. paid the compliance (parking ticket) she was issued for expired plates (almost 3 months expired) she was issued (driving) just before her being put in her position? Held to a higher standard? Violating laws even while running for Ald. office? Did the DUI just "go away"?

You grossly underestimate the influence of the media on the 'average citizen', and, thus, erroneously relieve the media of responsibility regarding the continuance of those societal, political and economic forces which contribute greatly to the dangerous conditions your refer to, as well as significantly impede those who would diminish, by their actions, those same dangerous conditions.
