Friday night a call goes out in 007 of a man shot chasing the shooters down an alley, cops catch up to the guy and he says he is not shot, cops say on radio he is shot in the arm, then they say he is also shot in the leg, then stomach and finally the other leg, a man shot 4 times and it does not make the news, the media said ONLY 5 SHOT CITYWIDE, what are they hiding?

This wasn't the first one boys and girls!!! None of this is making the news at all; there has been an abundance of these street robberies in 001/018. Check this one out...Friday night, a guy is out jogging along the riverwalk, gets confronted by three offenders who proceed to beat the guy and take his ipod etc! Marine Unit on views the whole thing, gives chase (now on foot)and is able to grab two of the three offenders with the assistance of the Mounted Unit. All proceeds recovered, offenders positively id'ed and charged with robbery! Great job by the Marine Unit and Mounted!!! On the news....no way.
018 and 001 downtown areas are a pickpockets paradise. according to the review officer in 018, if you didn't see the guy actually take your wallet it is lost property. the thousands of dollars charged to the credit cards by the time you cancel them means nothing. perfect vic's from the suburbs and out of towners who are not street smart and leave their valuables unprotected. if an arrest is made, unlikely that they will be coming back for court. how many 0890 being turned into 5070 to make the numbers look good ????

Come on. At least Keating was out there. I don't know what is true or not, but if he was directing traffic good for him. If he had been out there and ignored it or didn't do anything some of you would criticize him for that.

Now as to the "wilding" one thing I've never understood about this department, among many, is the relative lack of "sting" operations. Put some cops in real plainclothes and let them walk up and down Michigan avenue posing as tourists if this kind of incident continues. Let the honor students get the word that their next victim might be an armed cop who might just be forced to defend himself and others with his weapon.
Outside trolling for "johns" and some low level drug arrests CPD generally just doesn't utilize such tactics.
J Fed or the next Superintendent needs to either be from the NYPD or hire some professional from the NYPD. Otherwise the 11th/19th Ward pillow biting parade will continue.

Good rule of thumb in this county. If the offenders are 1's and the victims 2's it is never a hate crime. When completing a GOCR or talking to a dick or ASA remember it is almost impossible to push the hate crime classification and prosecution if the offenders are 1's. Disregard everything that state statutes and the facts would lead you to think. Racially correct politics trump reality in Cook County.

Fuck review! Have the balls and tell them you classified it by what you were told by the victim. Review DOES NOT have the authority to change your case report nor do they have the authority to tell you to reclassify anything. The only one's that can reclassify is the detective division. However I do know what you're talking about. When I worked in 001, they constantly told me I had to change my case report from a burglary to a theft from building and robberies to thefts. I simply photo copied the statute from the book and resubmitted my case report unchanged. After a couple times and some mean and harsh looks, problem was solved.

018 and 001 downtown areas are a pickpockets paradise. according to the review officer in 018, if you didn't see the guy actually take your wallet it is lost property. the thousands of dollars charged to the credit cards by the time you cancel them means nothing. perfect vic's from the suburbs and out of towners who are not street smart and leave their valuables unprotected. if an arrest is made, unlikely that they will be coming back for court. how many 0890 being turned into 5070 to make the numbers look good ????

The problem is that Keating. Is not doing his job. He's being paid to think. Not set up phony street arrest. That him and the Mayor set up to make him look good. What other Deputy Chief is driving around having these encounters. There busy thinking what are next move as a whole unit should be.

I reserved my comments to the end after reading all this. I hear some guys like this keating guy. Some guys don't.
He was in charge of the Taste of Chicago and it went down in flames. He was in charge of the Marathon where people dehydrated. I've never in my 23 years saw deputy chiefs who do more traffic stops then strategic planning for big events.
Granted this was a good arrest. I made a 100 arrest and never heard a word about them. But, I can see the anger in that this guy don't really know what his job entails. He's destroying this department as a whole with his party line.
Keating start worrying about big events. Save the city by not screwing up these events and the thousands of people who come down for these events.
In closing the next time there is a march downtown for the FOP. I'll be the one smiling at your incompetent ass.

Residents of my building at 55 W Delaware just received this notice about a similar incident that occurred on Sunday Apr 26:
The friend of a resident was robbed last night at approximately 9:45 p.m. at the corner of Clark and Delaware. A group of five young African-American males (age 10-16) demanded her purse as she was walking to her car with a female companion. The police advise women to leave their purses at home and use a wallet that can be carried in a pocket. Management has requested additional neighborhood patrols from the police department.
Two M/4/20's with minor backgrounds walking down Michigan Ave., 11 M/1's surround them, a cell phone is lost/taken in the melee and Special K demands that all 11 get charged with a felony "something or other".

All 11 would be in prison well into their 30's with felony hate crime charges, robbery, and agg battery.
