Mayor Richard Daley weighed in on the patronage scandal surrounding Cook County Board President Todd Stroger today, suggesting his ally should explain himself to the public.
"He has to speak on behalf of himself. I've known the family for many, many years," Daley said after a peace rally. "He has to get out there and be able to explain that to everyone in Cook County."
Stroger has been buffeted by a patronage hiring scandal that led him to dump his cousin, Donna Dunnings, from the county's top financial post.
This coming from the "Great Un-Communicator" Shortshanks, the man who can't explain how 26 aldermen in 25 years have gone to jail; how $40 million got spent in trucks no one needed, how connected developers manage to buy prime downtown lots for $1 and get the city to clean up the EPA disasters they are for free; how his son and nephew end up involved in all sorts of city contracts and pension money grabs; the man who won't answer who hired Angelo Torres.
Pot meet kettle. At least Kass will ask the difficult questions of the mayor once in a while instead of helping him weaken the Stroger/Beavers alliance and tighten his hold on the County Board.

My family and I would like to thank them for arranging accomodations for us in Berea, OH during his last days.

Hi Everyone:
The FOP monthly meeting was held April 21st with Mike Shields from the Pension Board as the “Guest Speaker.”
Mike Shields and the other Board Members working on behalf of all Retiree’s are asking for our attendance at the next Pension Board meeting.
According to Mike, the Board members that are “Daley Appointees” are getting nervous because they are now realizing that some of the Retiree’s and Active members are paying attention and taking an active interest in how and where they are spending our Pension Fund money as well as how it’s being invested, and how much has been lost. Not to mention the Fund money that the “Daley Appointees” gave to Veniecko, Daley’s nephew, so that he could use it to build housing for the Olympic Village.
The other thing that was mentioned was that the City has said that they are ceasing to pay for all (Retiree & Active) members Health Insurance effective in 2013. So that means that any Retiree who receives “Paid for” health care starting at age 60, if you are not 65 by the year 2013, you will no longer have health insurance unless you pay 100% for it.
Think about how this will affect you if you or your spouse have a pre-existing condition and the City drops the insurance, you probably won’t be able to get insurance coverage anywhere and you’ll just have to hope that you stay healthy until Medicare kicks in at age 65.
Anyway gang, Mike Shields and Company are asking that the Retiree’s and Active members flood the meeting to hear first hand what is going on and to let the Pension Board know that we are vigilantly watching so they cannot spending OUR money at their whims and we are a force to be reckoned with.
Mike said that a very nice lunch will be served afterwards to all that attend.
This meeting will be held this coming Wednesday, April 29th and starts promptly at 9:00 AM on the 16th Floor at 221 N. LaSalle Street in Chicago.

A man was charged this morning with shooting and killing another man as they played video games in a South Side apartment earlier this month, Chicago police said.
Joseph Johnson III, 28, was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Danny Taylor, 24, late on the night of April 5 inside Taylor's apartment in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue, authorities said.
The two were playing on an Xbox 360video game console when an altercation led Johnson to pull out a gun and shoot Taylor in the back of the head, according to police. Taylor's girlfriend came home that night to find Taylor mortally wounded.
Patronage hiring did not get Dunnings fired.

I'm a retired PO on vacation from Grayslake. The word is out about Chicago, CRook Co. CORRUPTION.
We were driving from Lewisville, TX to Scottsdale, AZ. We stayed in El Paso overnight and I met with a bunch of the local off-duty EPPD officers at a police watering hole. Nice guys.
Lot of laughs. Like officers in Dallas, they all knew that Chicago is the most politically corrupt city in the nation.
The political corruption of the CPD and Chicago, CRook Co. is the laughingstock of the nation.
I'm so happy since moving out of Chicago and CRook Co. to Grayslake. Shortshanks and the Toddler should be dragged to the gallows with Blagojevich.
We're amazed that the Chicago voters don't kick these corrupt officials out of office, if not send them to the penitentiary.
I live in rural Ohio and we are shocked about your corrupt politicians getting off scot free. I visited your city years ago but now it's become a scary place.

12-year-old girl, man wounded in Marquette Park shooting
CHICAGO -- A 12-year-old girl and 19-year-old man were shot Sunday night in the Southwest Side's Marquette Park neighborhood.
The two were walking in the 6100 block of South Sacramento Avenue when someone began firing shots on the street, striking the girl in her leg and the man in his arm, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
Police said the incident could be a drive-by shooting.The girl is in University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in “stable” condition, Langford said. The man, shot multiple times in his arm, refused medical treatment.
"It's just a flesh wound."

The other is when the Daleys have the coppers assigned to the Mayos detail walk their dog they have to wipe the dogs ass before it comes back into the house Not sure about this one but heard it from a reliable non police source. Usually Da Maggie hands out the paper towels. Da Mayo has got to GO! I think someday Da Mayo and Satan will share a cigar!

Notify the Pension Board with your request to move. DO NOT MOVE UNTIL YOU RECEIVE A LETTER from them stating you CAN move. Your request will not be denied, but you have to notify them BEFORE you move out of the city limits. After you receive your formal letter to move out of the city limits you can move anywhere you want, but always let them know if you change your address.

...The other thing that was mentioned was that the City has said that they are ceasing to pay for all (Retiree & Active) members Health Insurance effective in 2013. So that means that any Retiree who receives “Paid for” health care starting at age 60, if you are not 65 by the year 2013, you will no longer have health insurance unless you pay 100% for it.
Think about how this will affect you if you or your spouse have a pre-existing condition and the City drops the insurance, you probably won’t be able to get insurance coverage anywhere and you’ll just have to hope that you stay healthy until Medicare kicks in at age 65.

While there is some truth here, there is also a little bit of a misconception that keeps getting perpetuated. As far as I know, the city has never decisively said that they will cesase paying for retiree health care in 2013. The fact is that 2013 was the agreed upon date, between the city and the court, when the city will no longer be required to pick up retiree heath care premiums. Yes that is a fine lin, cut anything can happen between now and 2013. Besides, as I understand it, the paid health care at 60 is a contractualy obligation, and may not be affected by the court decision. That would obviously be affected by the next contract. In addition, there is federal law that requires health insurance companies to NOT penalize for pre-existing conditions provided the individual is moving directly from one carrier to another. Of course you would still be going from a group to an individual plan. Actually the best solution to the health care dilemma would be for ligislation requiring another half percent pension contribution, specifically for retirement health care, or for the unions to get involved in funding retiree health care. Don't hold your breath on eithe of those. I guess things could be better, but things are not completely bleak. Even though I do agree that the time to address these issues is now.

Good luck to the new lt's, you know at least one of you are going there, probably R.B., which means the current tact lt. will be looking for a new spot in about 3 months.

Merit RB is not going to stay anywhere long enuff as a lt to be anything let alone a tact Lt. ala John Franklin, especially working for Doty. With all his clout why would they do that to him? He might last longer as an exempt than Franklin did. Same shit different day

Thanks Ohio,the police officers of chicago know how corrupt the politico's are.They attempt to point the finger at someone other than themselves in a weak attempt to divert attention but it's nice to see that others are watching,however we need someone higher up to also take notice of the unchecked corruption by the power's that be and effect change because as soon as a Police Officer or other city worker reveals what's going on the Mayor will sick his puppets from the Media on them to silence them or to make that particular department or agency look bad.Please spread the word,that if you average it out like most proffessions you will realze that Chicago Police officer's are not as bad as we are made out to be.We are a proud,hard working,steller Department that really do care about what's going on however are almost powerless to stop the carnage created by the very people that are supopsed to protect it's members.We are severly undermanned,out gunned,are using old outdated equipment,but yearly due to outcry from people who's only purpose is to make a name for themselves,for example: We have a very high gun violence rate for many reason's but the one that sticks out the most is that our politico's don't want citizens to arm themseves to protect their family memnbers,then year after year they pass legislation that hinder's the police,they do not back us when something happens.I hope you have noticed for a while now that you have not seen our officer's envolved in many shootinge lately,why because our officers are sick and tired of being second guessed by the reverands who only come out when something invloves an opfficer then they just fade back into the woodwork,and being suede for everything under the sun.Sorry for the very long rant,i just wanted you and citizens from other citied and counties to see what is going on in Shitago(not a typo) and realize that it's not the Police who are the problem..
