It Wasn't a Rumor

We keep getting letters about the recent ticketing of police cars - State, County, CPD unmarked, all while parked downtown. The wording of a memo appeared, purportedly by City managers, the CPD brass got involved and FOP came out with a statement that the whole thing was a rumor that took on a life of its own. Then we get these:

The top picture and the first two tickets in the second shot are automated tickets written on "U" plates, which we believe are registered to State vehicles. The last ticket in the second picture appears to be written on an unmarked Ford. In any case, here's a pic of one of the offending vehicles:Definitely a police car. So the contention that this was an out of control rumor takes a hit. Hopefully, the whole unpleasant episode ended as quickly as it started. As an amusing side note, the tickets were written by a Parking Enforcement Agent named "Drew Peterson." Might that explain his dislike of the police?

Shouldn't be hard to catch the "Ticket Twit". A little good police work and trailing could pay off with an ANOV written in return.

off-topic "Clout goes to college". So now we find that these rat bastards are not only stealing rightfully earned CPD promotions and giving them to their idiot friends and relatives but they are also stealing college admissions from our (and other parents) kids. One admissions officer adamantly against these admissions stated that "As a whole, their SAT's and grades were much lower than other applicant's." You ain't telling us nothing we haven't known for years lady! I'm sure this big group of dummies is destined to lead the future of Chicago.

Why in the hell did the Mayor need the Supt., EB and other command staff to appear at his press conference to discuss the parking meter contract? What part did the CPD play in discussions about that contract before it was ratified by the City Council? I didn't understand why any of our command staff needed to appear on camera for that...did anybody else see that press clip?

an off duty copper ran out and told the parking enforcement guys that they were all cop's cars, and that they are at the gun inspection at the union, to which the parking guy said he didn't care and began to write tickets anyway.

I doubt this ever was a rumor. I saw a Dept. of Revenue employee boot a Cook County State's Attorney vehicle outside their offices at Washington and Dearborn last week. The ASA was unloading 2 boxes from the trunk when the "boot van" pulls up and slaps one on. The ASA is showing ID, making phone calls, and finally a Dept. of Rev. supervisor shows up (I'm assuming supervisor because he had a white shirt on w/patches). The ASA speaks to supervisor, who shook his head several times and both Dept. of Rev. employees left the scene, leaving the ASA on the corner, with a booted car, making numerous phone calls. To their defense, the vehicle did not have "M" plates. Dept. of Revenue seems to be taking this ticket stuff real serious.

I got one recently in Bridgeport on my "M" plated Department vehicle. But, even GPS can't put the ticket on me, as I've taken the appropriate measures to see that the ticket trail ends cold. I parked at an expired meter, not a bus stop. Yes, I was on lunch. No I didn't pay the meter and I never will unless I'm in my own personal vehicle.

F-1 civilian meter lady, I didn't bother trying to talk/plead with her, figured she must be blind too. Next time I'll double park with the siren on when I'm eating.

I did like the post last week about the week off in Wisconsin if forced to pay.

I don't dislike the Police.

But I follow directions.

When the Deputy Director tells you that NOTHING is Exempt (plate type wise or vehicle) and to TIcket everything that is parked illegally (excluding vehicles involved in OBVIOUS Emergencies or Investigations...I go out and do the job...And I go where I know there are violations.

Not my fault the State Police are stupid and stick their cars in Bus Stops..or a Turn Lane Tow zone.

And one other thing.......any of you want to see that memo?

Thats a state police car. They are outside the Thompson Center. They are doing security for the Thompson/State of Il. So technically, they were on duty. Unreal.

29 May 0802 HRS you are correct: "U" plates denote State of IL cars, whether police (U of I), IDOC (parole agents) or other non-sworn state agencies. ISP has heir own plates, but other state vehicles get the "U."

"U" does not stand for university. They are on most state of illinois vehicles including parole officers, idot & minuteman trucks along with several other state agencies. The police car in the picture belongs to CMS and is a police car clearly marked State of Illinois Police. They are in charge of patrolling any and all state buildings and the backround of the picture is non other than the Thompson Center otherwise known as the State of Illinois Building. Next time he should park on the sidewalk and tell the retarded revenue jag to go fuck himself, his car's parked on state property.

Vehicles owned and operated by the State of IL have a "U" prefix. Makes no difference which subsection they operate out of. Same as City of Chicago have "M".

Your correct that the vehicle is probably campus police based on the markings and the plate, however the "U" stands for Union. Vehicles registered to the State of Illinois also have "U" plates.

U Plates are for ALL state owned vehicles. IDOT, Campus Police, Parole Officers, University owned vehicles, etc. Regardless, anyone driving one of those vehicles is (probably) on "official business" while on the public dime. Just take money from one pot and put it in another I guess.

Funny...

I was downtown last week for training. Part of my assignment was to scope out the Daley Center for security issues. I then heard a TMA radio behing me. I looked, but only saw the radio - no person. The radio was left on a bike chained up next to City Hall. So, I took it. I didn't want some mope taking it and playing games later on. When my detail was over I began to walk to city Hall when I saw an older TMA ladt asking the CC Sheriff if he had seen it. She was pretty upset. I held the radio up and asked if it was hers. She gave me a big hug and was soooo happy that she wasnt going to get fired for losing the radio. I felt good.

So, back to funny. Here I go and do the right thing, outside City/County Building, next to the Daley Center, along side of the State of Illinois building. And what do I get for it? A Revenue ticket man writing up a marked police car on official duty. Revenue doesnt write the county cars on the sidewalk at Daley Plaza. They are not parked legally!

So, Peterson, go write up the County Sheriff at the Daley Center. When yop do that, I'll stop bitching at you.

Parking fraud alert!! There is a new Crown Victoria and another car displaying FOP stickers and "violent crimes unit" placards and when the plates are owned by a private citizen. These cars never pay for the meters they park at and are always parked on the corner of Halsted and Wolfram, by the parking meters in front of the hair removal business. Seems like a ex-police officer avoids tickets day in and day out by putting up these phony stickers and placards. Can one of you fine officers tell me where I can get these phony credentials for my car so I can avoid paying all my meters when I park too?

Wrong! Illinois "U" plates are, as SCC mentioned, vehicles registered to the State of Illinois. The police vehicle in the photo belongs to the Illinois State Police PSU unit, which are the security guards who work at the State of Illinois Center. They are not Illinois State Police Officers and did not go through the state police academy, but some back door deal allowed them to be absorbed into ISP, even though their people make somewhere just above $10 an hour.
