Feud?

Channel 5 catches up with what we pointed out yesterday (that Sneed is all wet on this story) and ties it into a general lack of empathy toward J-Fed:
  • Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis is again catching flack from officers, this time from a cop blogger after Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed went with a story about Weis accepting a month of unpaid furlough time in solidarity with his officers.

As SecondCityCop points out, most Chicago officers are not taking unpaid furlough days, and if they had to, there’d likely be a small coup d’état in their union. And Weis, the highest paid city official, is not required to take the days because he’s under contract.

Weis and the cops he oversees have had a friendly, combative relationship since he took over -- without the friendly part -- as evidenced by the union’s stinging vote of no confidence in Weis earlier this year. Many officers see the former FBI special agent, dubbed "J-Fed" by SecondCityCop, as an outsider who doesn’t understand the complexities of policing Chicago’s streets. SecondCityCop thinks he’s worried about his political skin and not looking out for the rank-and-file, whose numbers are dwindling due to cuts in police hiring.
Again, we didn't give Weis his nickname - an anonymous reader did. We simply popularized it. But the author of the article (Zach Christman) does point out a truism that our readers have been pointing out for a year-and-a-half now and really ought to be explored more closely by the media:
  • J-Fed is an outsider to the nth degree who understands nothing about street level policing.
He is exactly the wrong person at the wrong time. What the Department needed, and still needs, is a cop in charge. For far too long, we've had politicians in charge. And unfortunately, it has led to the biggest leadership vacuum we've seen or heard about in decades. Daley has created an entire generation of "meri-clout-orious" who cannot, will not and are incapable of leading.

In another time, maybe in another universe, J-Fed might have been necessary. Today, he is merely the culmination of decades of gross mismanagement.

Gotta tell ya. JFed is just the tip of the iceberg. You've got civilian district managers, civilian dispatchers, a civilian director of Human Resources, a civilian director of IAD, and JFed has a staff that is comprised of all civilains except for a redhead who never did a lick of police work in her life. Go figure why it's all FUBAR.

It's obvious to everyone, even my nieces who are in college.

We were at my sisters house for a family get together. The TV was on and Weis was on TV blowing smoke up some media moron's ass. The kids asked, "Uncle, does that man (Weis) know what he's doing?"

I didn't answer immediately. Instead, I slowly rubbed my chin as though I was pondering a question of greatest importance. The nieces leaned forward in anticipation of my answer. I paused before answering, then I said "Nope".

Take the uniform back to the store and stick with a suit. And tell those goof from the fbi that you brought with you to do the same. None of us cops will miss either of you when you are all shown the door very soon.

At least another journalist had the balls to relate what an idiot Sneed is. We all know all she does is carry the Mayors water, Her police soources, Mauer, Cline and a few other are gone and drying up. She needs to parrot what shes got left, namely J-Fed. Following what he thinks is the course he must, taking the furlough days. Of course he has a signed contract regarding benefits, salary etc. So did
the unions who agreed to the give backs. Only the appointed persons in city government who serve at ShortShanks pleasure have no contract and had to give up the days, Department heads Exempt Members etc.

But to get to the real crux of the J- Fed problem is truly his lack of real city policing experience, and how he has addressed that. He has surrounded himself with other FEEBS who also have contracts with the city for big dough and no police experience. The fact is FBI law Enforcement and Street police experience are two different animals. It is like asking a General Practioner MD to drill and fix a tooth cavity. He Knows a little bit about teeth but does not have the training or skill to fix the toothache. So who does he ask to help him other MD's he knows from the FBI WONT WORK, may cause the tooth to become tender and non functioning. Something like what has happened to the Chicao Police Department.

The constant inability to stop the pain caused the MD ( J-Fed ) to call on people in the waiting room to assist him. ( those are the newly appointed exempt ) they also have no clue as to how to stop the tooth pain, because they have had no training or experience with teeth and how get the aching tooth back to a useful state. I know this may be rambling on and on but Iam doing this to help the public understand why J-Fed will not ever be effective as a City Police Superintendent.

Jody Weis cannot win, no matter what he does. First, the Stuttering Prick expects him to get on board with the unpaid furlough days. He can't, very well, say no, can he?

Defying the Mayor on this will cost him his job. Not that he deserves it! Firing his overpaid, 'steroid laced', Fed ass wouldn't even make a ripple in the media. There are plenty of obvious signs, indicators, statistics, and hunches abounding out there that completely justify his removal.

So he MUST go along with the Mayor's proposal to show that he is on-board with the Daley Crime Family. Doing this, however, even further alienates him from the people he was hired to lead, (if thats possible). He will and should choose his own family and livelyhood over us. The trust is gone anyway and is beyond repair.

Having civilians manage the paper work is not a bad thing. But, having a federal law enforcement official manage the entire department is just part of Daley's plan, someone who he can control, someone who does not have a clue. If Daley was serious about police reform, he would have brought in a former commissioner from NY or LA, someone who could bring real reform, someone who would give the honest, hard working cop who does not have political clout a chance at a good assignment or a promotion. J-Fed will be out in a year and Daley will appoint an insider to run the department and things will be as usual. Rigged promotions, no chance at a good assignment, political interference in every aspect of the department.Just another part of Daley's patronage system

JFed is just a figure-head for this department... a show piece so Daley could make it seem like he really was putting someone in charge that was here to do right by the department.

Daley and the alderman have always had their hands in the way this department was run and will continue to do so forever.

Weis cannot settle our contract; Weis cannot give us better equipment or hire more police officers because DALEY controls the $$$$$$. Weis' hands are tied.

Funny, The Mayor is a crook and a criminal and he is trying to run CPD his way..... HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Anyone see the obvious?

WE, as the police, don't get paid for what we do, we get paid for what we might have to do. So, Mr Mayor, if in fact you would like to give us less, do you really think you will get more. My family hardly makes enough to live on because the cost of living in this shitbox city is so high. Do you really think I care enough to risk my life for a shithead or city that doesn't care about me? Would I die in the line of duty? Yes, for one of my brothers or sisters and nothing else. So while the city scambles to NOT turn into Detroit the Mayor continues to take all he can. I will be honest. Give me a 6%raise and I still won't give a shit!

I don't know if CPD will ever recover. It's not the short term bullshit like the request for a Sup that gets you. It's the bullshit CR# 3 months down the line. Or the lawuit for shooting a shitbag that points a gun at you only to see the City give the shitheads family half a million dollars as a settlement.

CPD can't recover if things don't change. The department throws us in shark infested waters then gives us life vests to stay afloat (kind of like a free meal). Then they tell us, "keep an eye on the sharks, but if they attack you, you are on your own!" Are you serious?!

People out there claim they hate us and don't trust us. But why then do they call us for even the dumbest of reasons (i.e. "my brother ate my chicken wings")
I think those same people know they can trust us and that we are needed.

King Dick, the day you go to jail is the day that will help CPD get back on it's feet. I know there will still be clout- but as long as those assholes stay in the background and keep their mouths shut and let the real police do their jobs, CPD will be back.

Until then, as long as my check clears thats the best I can hope for.

I am tired of this shit!

According to Wikipedia.org:

Factors influencing morale within the workplace include

Job security.
Every complaint accepted? Even THIRD PARTY complaints? The department wants NUMBERS, but when you get the numbers, they turn their backs on you? A lawsuit at every corner?

Management style.
Whatever the media or Daley wants, the department gives. No real "merit" based promotions. Everything that goes wrong is iroically placed upon the backs of patrol, making it "your fault". Less and Less manpower, but they want more and more numbers...

Staff feeling that their contribution is valued by their employer.
Fortunately, if you make a mistake, you can get fed time to the tune of 3.5 years, regardless of your YEARS of contributions. See: Bill Cozzi

Realistic opportunities for merit-based promotion.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....

The perceived social or economic value of the work being done by the organization as a whole.
see: No contract for TWO YEARS AND COUNTING...ALSO: Since we are Scamming the taxpayers with uniform checks and such, seeing as though we are the few remaining taxpayers that MUST live in the city...

The perceived status of the work being done by the organization as a whole.
According to the media, and even the LEADER- the only thing we do is beat up future college grads (before they change their lives around)

NUFF SAID...that is where morale is today!

I admit I dont know everything and unlike JF, I would ask, if i needed clarification of what I can get away with. I can spot a kiss ass a mile away, and anyone I promoted would have the backing of his or her men. not "do you know who I am"
Its a job that I know what takes to get done from the resources, to the man power, to the keeping Dick quiet.( he loves money Period.)
I'd bring back the units, plain clothes tact and the "benefits" of being the working police. and if you are at the end of your enlistment in this mess we call The CPD then you,ve earned the right to sit back and relax.

I have too many other reasons to list but then what again do I know

Sorry, my friend. Policing in this city AND country is changed forever. I retired in 2005, and I can't tell you how much different it was from when I started in 1978. Unfortunately, it appears that since I retired, it has gotten twice as bad. My heart is with you guys.

My take on this whole mess is that you can lay the blame on the doorstep of all the lawyers, and here's why.

Q: Who proposes what laws society should be guided by?

A: Politicians, (or more precisely, mostly lawyers).

Q: Who sentences criminals and determines how long a felon is NOT allowed to prey on society?

A: Judges, (or more precisely, former lawyers).

Q: Who picks and chooses whether or not to even prosecute criminals?

A: The ASAs, (or more precisely, lawyers).

Q: Who is the only member of society who can file lawsuits in a court of law?

A: Lawyers (almost exclusively)

In travelling outside the country, I have learned that lawyers in other countries consider our legal system to be the laughing stock of this planet because absolutely nothing can be accomplished here without a lawyer being involved. And when it is all said and done, the lawyer is the only one walking away with a fat wallet.

Lawyers have manipulated the system so that they don't even have to start with a plausible or viable set of 'facts' to bring suit. Their concept of representing their 'client' is to throw any old shit at the wall and hoping something sticks.

I'm so tired of their 'holier than thou' speeches about how even the scum of the earth deserves a good legal defense, blah blah blah.

They have ruined this country in soooo many ways. I don't know the answers, but a few ways to save us are concepts like "loser pays", "term limits", and "professional juries". But the first thing we should do is kill all the lawyers!

I agree that J-Fed is a huge disappointment but it's not because he wasn't a street cop nor do we necessarily need a street cop in charge.

I've seen far too many good street cops get promoted to become horseshit supervisors. On the flip side, some of the best managers weren't always stellar players.

J-Fed didn't need to be a street cop but he needed to have the SOUL of a street cop as well as being an excellent manager.

A manager knows that his or her job is to (1) get the work done through others and (2) properly train, equip, staff, empower and support the troops in getting the job done.

My cheesehead cousin worked for a sheriff who had almost no law enforcement experience but was beloved by his troops and the community. He let the professional staff run the department but he was the guy who fought for his troops to get them what they needed to get the job done.

Nor is being an outsider necessarily a problem. Look at Chief Flynn in Milwaukee. Some street cop experience but a good manager who stands up for the troops. The problem is that J-Fed is the wrong outsider, a fed who thinks nobody else knows anything -- an isolated geek who has no meaningful desire to learn. A probationary patrolman in Winnetka has more real cop experience than J-Fed.

I don't mind either if the boss is a bit of a politician because -- guess what -- in order to get what we need he's going to have to schmooze the city council, etc. But note that schmooze doesn't mean sell out.

J-Fed doesn't care what a blue suit thinks. Does he ever hang with the troops to find out what's happening? On the flip side, in the Ohio Highway Patrol every brass hat from the colonel on down is required to ride with a trooper every month -- not as a supervisor but to listen and learn.

Another fault with J-Fed is that he doesn't really have your back. I met a chief in Washington, D.C. -- I think his name was Maurice Turner -- who said, "I don't back up my men. I go through the door with them." I'm not sure I'd want J-Fed going through the door with me but I sure could use the backing.

In large measure it's all about attitude. One of my buddies is a campus cop who worked for a series off liberal eggheads who hated police and shit all over them. Then a new chancellor came in by way of Alaska who treats them like gold. At a Christmas party he went to thank the new chancellor for backing them and treating them with respect. Chancellor replied, "No thanks necessary. My dad was a Seattle cop."

I don't give a rat's ass where the superintendent comes from, what color he (or she) is, etc. I want to know if he's got my back.

These lessens were further taught to me by the wheel gun coppers. J-fed, a wheel gun copper means an old-timer with a revolver.

As Murawski once said," You think this is the real world, this is a gggymmmm, these are mother f-in walllsssss. You have to ask yourself, are you goin to take it in the ass, or are you gonna be the mother f-in Chicago Police!"

There were/are good times. They are farther in between now. Too bad, I loved going to work when I was young.

I was the Blue Knight with a shiny gun, a weathered leather and a F.U. attitude.

Oh well.

Anybody read Sneed this morning (Tuesday)?

She wants to pick a fight with the rank and file--go right ahead you useless twit, we'll bury you.

We know all the dirt on all the members of the City's media, as Ben Franklin said "Clean your finger before you point at my spots"

Listen Snead even after your correction you are still wrong. Every employee of the City of Chicago that is in upper management is required to take furlough days per the mayor. Jody is the only employee under a contract with the city. That being said if he wouldnt have taken furlough days he would have been the only person in upper management in the whole city that did not take furlough days. Dont think that the mayor didnt tell him he had to. ANother case of award winning reporting.

"Do you think J-fed knows the Queens-bury rules of fighting?

I'm 508- 170, I think I could take his ass 2 out of 3 falls. Do you know why, J-fed? I fought the bad man with just my dukes and my partner. Holy crap was I scared!"

TRU dat, and the "scare" you experienced turned into a strange curiosity when the "bad man" asked you to take off your loin cloth and "oil up"... good times!

DALEY has created this mess and DALEY and the citizens in this city have to live with it.

Bingo! One of THE BEST statements. DALEY has created all of this. Most control freaks don't know what they are doing...and dat's da mayor. duh.

Sneed is a joke, a cartoon character, enough said on that.

I guess I am a bit puzzled as to why anyone would think that moral is just fine, or the idiotic statement that moral is great based on the response to 10-1's.
What an asshole.
This city has a slim chance of coming back to what it once was, and I believe it can and will only after Shortshanks is booted out in the next election or indicted for years of corruption under him and he can take that puppet J-Fed with him...
Hard for a moron who's worse day is when he wore his wingtips and was told to jump to many times that day, or his batteries went out in his remote... respect, is something you earn J-Pud. And if you’re so worried about giving back to the city, just stand by your words, time to pack.

I agree ... John Farrell for Supt! He's the only one I know that would tell the rest of the bumbling City idiots to kiss his ass ... and he'd do it for half the salary JPUNK is getting paid.
