Sherlock J-Fed
Two veteran police officers were in "good spirits" and expected to fully recover after both were shot in the legs Thursday afternoon while attempting to serve a narcotics-related warrant on Chicago's Far Southeast Side.
It's the fifth police-involved shooting in the last week, and Police Supt. Jody Weis said it's evidence of a larger pattern of violence targeting police that grows more dangerous every month.
"The level of violence being shown to police officers is extraordinarily disturbing," Weis said. "People are trying to murder police officers left and right, and if you think about it, if they'll do that to a uniformed officer, what will they do to civilians and innocent people on the street?"
Thank goodness you're here to save the citizens from the police.

It had me wondering if what he's really saying is Illinois should allow their citizens to finally be like the other 48 states and be able to protect themselves by legally carrying concealed weapons.
There really should be more than the state lottery the bad guys can play, and its the lotto that the armed and legally empowered civilians and innocent people on the street have a fighting chance up against the illegally armed thugs and gangs in Chicago.
Watch the crime stats drop when that is finally allowed in Illinois and Chicago.

I met a lot of dummies on this job. But Weis takes it to another level. He simply doesn't have a clue.
At least Phil Cline, love him or hate him, had some people under him that knew what they were doing. With Weis, everytime I hear the words "Policy Group" or "Think Tank", I start screaming.
Fred Rice, LeRoy Martin, Matt Rodriguez, Terry Hilliard and Cline had their faults. But none of them appear as clueless as Weis. I'm embarrassed for my job when he appears on TV.

Time to declare a moratorium on investigating police shootings in self-defense and the ghetto lottery. Anita Alvarez and Independent Police Review Board, you have better things to do than to extort money from cops trying to protect themselves. Why should someone be 'given credit' for doing the right thing? Isn't that what you're supposed to do ALL the time, not just when you're trying to garner some good will?
He showed his true colors before he even started work here, by handing the Cozzi file to his friends at the old offices. He hasn't changed; he just wants us to lay off him, so he says what he thinks we want to hear.

I have been a P.O. for 15 yrs, which is not very long in the big picture. Through out my career, Police work has never been black and white, but very large areas of grey. Say what you want. Things weren't even close to as bad as they are today when Starks was here. Shields would be an ideal choice to step in once the 'Olympic' decision is made in a few more months, when Shortshanks can remove his blinders and send this
seriously incompetent Supt. off into a sub-basement where he can drain the tax coffers until his ridiculously overgenerous contract expires with a whimper.
Shields would rise far and above Dugan, Cuello or Peterson. Jackson will be gone regardless of who steps in; many here at HQ feel he's been replaced by EB in most respects already.

Why would they want to fix it? Daley will NEVER admit to a police shortage. He truly believes that the department can run on the existing manpower, if not less. What will happen will be MORE special units being moved around, flooding an area AFTER a shooting. More OPERATION JUST CAUSE'S will fill our C.O. books and keep popping up on our computer screens like so much junk mail.
AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE! Remember not too long a go the story hit the media about ALL the inside coppers being dumped back to the street to help alleviate the manpower shortage? How's that working for you? One of the inside positions to be done away with was the Watch Secretary. I don't know about your district but in mine they just dropped the title from the daily sheets and starting listing our W.S. as a footman.
We had 2 P.O.'s come from 3rd watch and 3 from 1st as summer furlough relief. Two P.O.'s from 1st watch came over and have been working inside ever since. Oh, did I mention that those two are female?
We still have our District Manager and a new civilian time keeper in our front office but we still have 4 P.O.'s working there too, all FEMALE!
Nothing is or will ever change on this job. The public will still be fed a steady stream of carefully written and screened dribble from City Hall and it will be taken as gospel. The only way that this department will ever go back to being a true police department will be when Fitzgerald holds a surprise news conference announcing the indictments against Shortshanks. Once that happens all the pond scum that surrounds him will slither back into the shadows in hopes of avoiding the bright light of the federal investigation that will be launched.
My only hope is that this will happen the day before they announce the winning city for the 2016 Olympics.
