3 to 4 Shootings a Week

And yes, the numbers are higher this year compared to last - significantly higher:
  • 91 through 15 June in 2009 compared to "only" 73 last year over the same time period.
The Red Eye has a map charting the locations of shootings that includes shots fired by the police, regardless of hits or misses.

There's definitely a pattern to it all.

Oh, Mr. Mayor!

For an answer on housing, Bronzeville residents visit the mayor's house

More than 40 Bronzeville residents packed into a schoolbus last night to visit Mayor Richard M. Daley's house, demanding that city officials approve 500 vacant, city-owned lots in their neighborhood for affordable housing.

....well, not for the housing issue but something else dear to our hearts.

As we know, this is the Administrations fault, the City Council is totally responsible for this. They stripped the Police and made this job even more dangerous. They all need to go. If they were in the private sector, they all..Mayor and Aldermen, would have been terminated a long time ago. Seems the only time they get fired, is when they are on their way to prison. Remember...Go home safe everynight...at any cost! We have buried enough of our Brothers in the last few years, even more have been injured by the shitheads. These politicians only show an interest when it favors them in some way...that includes sticking a knife in your back to take the heat off of them. If any of them really cared, this Department would be their first priority, not their last. Each alderman should be screaming for more protection of the citizens that live in their wards, but they are silent. They all need to go. Even before I would embrace the residency lifted, I would vote and support term limits for the mayor and the alderman. They want more, but want to spend less. It's a shame when a city like New York has a lower crime rate than Chicago. Enough is enough. We as citizens really have to look at the big picture and do what is right for us and our children...get rid of these people...the money that has been raised belongs to the City...not daley, not the alderman, or others who think they can personally benefit from the olympics. Be Safe, Go Home, Do What You Have To Do To Survive...Don't let the city politicians use you ANYMORE!!!!

From a little birdy at City Hall. The Mayor is going to cut police and fire salaries 10% by end of year even sooner if no Olympics. He will use the term financial crisis & grave situation when it is contested in court. He will roll the dice that he will get some favors in court to have it upheld. He does not care if he looses either. Its not his money!! If police and fire get the 10% back and then some he will spin it to the citizens and make the job even more impossible. Its sad with all of the police shootings that he has the nerve to push this. The responsibilty of being the police is 100 times more than being a fire fighter. You may loose your life and you may have to take a life. Thats a hugh job requirement and he wants to take away 10%. He should give at least 25%. 90% of the police work even when they are not on duty. it becomes a 6th sense. The mayor doesn't realize how fortunate he is to have such a good police department. The guys and gals who show up to work knowing they may be shot and have to take the life of another. Police Officers PRICELESS!!!!!!

They are not scared of the fucking police anymore, period. They know, at some level that the power structure of these big cities is dependant on keeping them pacified. Always remember that.

This is the result of 150 years of racial politics and 40 years of lawyers and reverends turning it into a niche industry.

What people in this city really need to see is the exact cost in dollars of this shit. For example, what does "June-Bug" cost from the moment of his birth, through the time he drops out of Crane HS, and ultimately gets shot by another turd or the police? The cost of all his crimes must be added up. This includes ER treatments, shrinks, Rehab, meds, incarceration, lawyers, the whole ball of shit.

Now multiply that by 40% of the residents of this city. Thats why we have no fucking money!!!!!

Wake up Liberals!

It's difficult to interpret because of the only 1/2 year 2009 stats.

"Whiskey your the divil.......your're driving me insane......."

There seem to be many more shootings out west of Midway airport.

The bulk of the shootings seem to be along an area from 47th to the City limits along the Dan Ryan two miles east or west. No surprise there.

Am I missing something? Besides my youth that is.

But most of those 800 Officers/Sergeants are mostly assigned to a msf, tru, tact, and gang officers . I did sign up for the carbine power test, but unfortunately, I haven't received the notification, yet. It's true what the other officers are saying, the beat officers should be given first priority in regard to this class because the beat officers are the first responders. There are no tact and gang teams on midnights and most of know what's the ETA on SWAT team if we ever need them. The other problem is where I work, none of the beat cars have carbine rack. The District have about 5 M4 's that are just covered with dust because we can't carry them and this department is not organized about giving trainings and too cheap to install racks on the beat cars..
God forbid if something bad happen during our watch and NONE of the officers are train to carry and use the M4..

Can this be true?? A NEW contract signed???

July 18, 2009

BY MICHAEL SNEED Sun-Times Columnist
Follow the leader? The Chicago Police Department's rank-and-file have been waiting to see if the city's $310,000-a-year top cop, Jody Weis, follows them in taking unpaid furlough days.

Sneed has the answer.

Yep. Weis intends to take a pay cut for all 12 furlough days this year and . . . 24 in total, per the newly negotiated police contract.

• • Quoth Weis: "I believe in leading from the front. I would never ask those that I serve to do more than me."

• • Background: Weis, who's seen as an outsider because of his FBI background, has been unpopular with the rank and file. He suffered a symbolic blow in March when the Fraternal Order of Police issued a "no confidence" vote against him -- citing everything from low manpower and vehicle shortages to low morale. Nearly 200 officers in the 11,000-plus union voted.

• • Backshot: Weis, who has a contract, is not a union member -- and could have fought the furlough cut. But he chose not to. Bravo.

There ya go.

So what ? most of the public doesn't like us anyway. Let them not like us when we get what we are OWED, yes, owed for the last 2 years. If he just played fair with the police department, maybe the police would actually generate large amounts of revenue for him. When we get a 16-18% contract over 4 years and 7-10% in retro, i will gladly go out and generate revenue for the mayor, only he will wait 2 1/2 years for it as we have all waited this time around !

Holy shits --- maybe he finally got a clue of whats happening to our first line of defense......Hey stupid......it's a Police Officer who's ASS is on the line ALL DAY EVERYDAY.

OT, hmmm me thinks I have an idea....

Maybe we should try the same thing??

Oh, Mr.

I bet the CROOKS and THIEVES from Brickerdike development were involved in bringing the people.

approx 800 officers trained in the Carbine Operators Program thus far, thats good

do yourself a favor and take this course. it's the best training -bar none- that you will have ever had in your entire CPD career

Take the course so you can get the gun and protect YOUR house, wife, kids and family.

I know of at least 2 dozen officers that are taking the course and have NO INTENTION what so ever of carrying the gun on-duty.

O.T.--it's beginning to look like
'Bear' has found new lodging, and is AWOL from work!

Question: What fate will befall "Capt. Kangaroo" his former handler? NO WAY is the Dept. going to shell out another 4 grand for another Shepherd for this goof.

7/18/2009 05:37:00 PM
---------------------
It's becoming apparent that you, moron, have a personal problem with Bear's handler. So, go take it up PRIVATELY with the handler.

Keep your personal lack of control off the blog.

To CFD: I'm apologizing for 5:11's fucked up comment about policing being a harder job than fighting fires. While it is true that we work more hours, I and many other officers, want nothing to do with your job because its just plain and simple crazy. I would rather face a bullet than go into a burning building any day.

When we get a 16-18% contract over 4 years and 7-10% in retro, i will gladly go out and generate revenue for the mayor, only he will wait 2 1/2 years for it as we have all waited this time around !

7/18/2009 11:05:00 PM

Even though most of think we are worth this much for a raise this wouldn't happen if the country was in good shape. We have all seen what has happened all over the country and what the MIDGET has done to other city workers. We will be lucky not to get a pay cut. Think it won't happen? Look at what he did to the other city workers and our exempts.

"Jody Weis says that many gun-related incidents involve disputes between two individuals."

Wow. Many disputes between two individuals with guns end up as shootings. I'm so glad we have the FBI teaching us these things.

WHY?? I cannot afford the gun. Even if I could, I cannot afford to take the class due to ammo cost. Even if I could, what is the point, seeing as how I still cannot carry it in the field- no rack in the car.... Sounds like a lot of money and aggravation to have a gun locked up at home... oh wait, that means I gotta get a long-gun safe too....

7/18/2009 05:27:00 PM

Ammo comes from the city. The class is on city time. Anything else you can come up with as a excuse? Being qualified means that if there was one available in the district, you could carry it.

Take the free training and don't buy the gun if you can't afford it. But please, please stop your bitching.

It's pretty bad when you get a bonafide call of shots fired; and no other car is available to back you up. Maybe this is why they are getting so bold. They know they are up on us with the shortage of manpower. Makes the situation a little easier for them to take advantage of.

I'm throwing in the towel!!!

Captains work 8 hours a day
receive 45 minutes a day overtime pay in comp time and $10,000 a year in supervisors extra checks for doing nothing extra
that's the reason lieutenants are 80 % of exempts most captains don't want to be members command staff

Vacationing here in Baltimore for a few days and Damn..2 coppers shot! Both doing well. The paper here reads like "Chicago on the Bay." The officers did an outstanding job in survivng an ambush during a violent domestic with a wrongdoer whose pedigree goes way back. It seems clear now that it's not just anecdotal, but a real upturn in gunplay against the police nationwide. Good job Baltimore...oh and shithead hit, but not in X-ring.

It about time the mayor and J-fed start letting the police be the police. its time to let them start taking care of all these gang bangers and stop coddling them. They need to be able to take care of business and not be worried about losing their job. its crazy that the people want the cops to do they job, but when they do those on the south size complain that their brothers are being targeted because of their color. bull shit --- please stop calling the police for shootings when they really don't want anything done. there are never witnesses coming forward. stop putting our officer's lives in danger, unless you really want the streets cleaned up.

please daley and j-feb step aside and let the officer's clean up the city streets, and anyone complaining that the blacks are being targeted should also be locked up.
