Mixed Message

  • Mayor Daley says by working with philanthropic groups the city is more efficiently using federal stimulus money.

So far Chicago has been awarded more than $1 billion dollars.

The city has applied for an additional $800 million in competitive grants under the program.

  • The mayor says under the stimulus program the city has, among other things, completed two street resurfacing projects purchased 39 buses for CTA and created more than 7,000 summer jobs for young people.
  • Illinois' jobless rate rose to 10.4 percent in July even though the pace of job losses is slowing.

That's up slightly from 10.3 percent in June.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security released the new figures Thursday. They show the state lost another 13,000 jobs in July, bringing the number of unemployed statewide to 692,500.

Seems Daley is awash in cash. But the unfriendly-to-business atmosphere continues to be a drag on any meaningful recovery.

So, dip shit has a billion dollars.

So now he can take the funds that don't have to be spent on street resurfacing, buying CTA buses and summer jobs for young people, and give the Police a nice big raise!

Hummmm......The city government of Compton CA. was a story in itself and corruption ran wild. One mayor went to federal prison for taking bribes and the next mayor continued the corruption, nepotism, and thirst of absolute power for controlling not only the city but also the Police and Fire Departments. This led to the disbanding of the Police Department, which had been around since 1888. Mayor Bradley and his cohorts on the city council voted to disband the Police Department because we protested his corrupt administration.

Just wondering. I was talking with a few guys Yesterday regarding Obama's election night extraviganza and wondering if the city ever got reimbursed for it. Remember a few months after the election, some reporter asked the midget if we were paid by the Democratic comittee and he went absolutely apeshit over the gall of that reporter to bring that up only after a few months. Well it's been over nine months and I sure would like to know if assole ever antied up with the money. Daley always claiming how broke we are but he'll let a couple of million slide. TDB-Typical Daley Bullshit.

Alderman rents ward office from family, himself
August 21, 2009 1:10 AM | No Comments
A Chicago alderman is using his taxpayer-funded expense account to rent a ward office in a building he owns with relatives, but he said Thursday that he would end the practice if it violates ethics rules.

Ald. George Cardenas (12th) initially told the Tribune he didn't see a problem with the arrangement, in which he paid $17,120 in 2008 to the Cardenas-family company. But after being questioned by reporters, he said he plans to sell his interest in the company.

"There's no reason to be [in the company] if it's going to cause me headaches," he said. "I do everything aboveboard."

Cardenas also said he was seeking an opinion from the city's Ethics Board on whether he can rent from relatives, and if it is not allowed, he will move his aldermanic office out of the building.

The ordinance governing aldermanic expense accounts prohibits the spending of expense funds for "the direct monetary benefit of any alderman or any of his or her relatives."

Read the full report from Tribune reporters Hal Dardick and Dan Mihalopoulos: chicagotribune.com.

Stevie Wonder could see a problem with this...dumbass.

8/21/2009 12:19:00 AM...

Can you also say Boeing...!

Million$$$ in tax breaks and incentives to move the multi-million dollar bonus executives and their staffs here, but none of the manufacturing or service center jobs.

Funny how two big aircraft industry centered mega-companies are persuaded to move here. Yet, theis Bozo of a mayor destroys our lakefront airport in the middle of the night when it should have been made into the state of the urban air transport gem it could have been.

There was a fine leveied by the Feds, who paid it?

That's right we did! Not Shortshanks, us, the poor sap taxpayers who now have to listen to him cry broke.

EVEN IF IT IS A $1,200.00 RETRO!

EVEN IF IT IS A $120.00 RETRO!

EVEN IF IT IS A $1.20 RETRO!

It was always OUR MONEY in the first place. Money that we should have been doled out since the old contract ended. The Mayoral Asshole will now use it as bait to get us to sign what HE wants us to sign. Then watch us, and the rest of the city slide even further into shit as the 'Lipics are prepared for in earnest.

Who is for betting that not long after this contract is settled, elected officials of F.O.P. will be getting other jobs with fat paychecks from Shortshanks.

If that happens, maybe that's something that Fitzgerald should investigate.

Any truth to Jody sitting on info. of a BAD BEEF that came in.... directly to him.

Supposedly it happend in his building regarding a "pepper spraying" incident caught on camera in a downtown restaurant several months ago?

E2 Nightclub ring a bell but in the yuppie hood?

Don't know the players but heard the rumors...but are they Officers that work in the clouted unit of MSF or Gangs?

Are they being protected?

Hey I am for "old school" but what about the ones that are sitting idle down at 311?

Integrity? I thought Jody was here to clear those problems up?

Or have they been stripped like the others that have been stripped for bullshit before them?

HOW FAIR IS THIS?

Or is there a new Federal case coming with some bad press when Jody LEAVES?

All so he goes out with a bang, like ....one last JAM on CPD!

Or is it a sign that Jody is now old school/pro-police? Taking care of the men...?

WELL, then what about those that have bullshit beefs before them that were stripped?

Who makes these decisions?

What makes them different than these unknown officers?

If there is truth to any of this of course

Or is this just a bad rumor?

Just like to see things kept FAIR to everyone on this job if we are so LEGIT now with having the new regime running our show!!

Just askin'

There is no such thing as a 'non-profit'.

Whenever anyone gets paid for the work they do, that's profit.

And especially when anyone gets paid for doing no work.

"Seems Daley is awash in cash. But the unfriendly-to-business atmosphere continues to be a drag on any meaningful recovery."

Chicago is a "Potemkin village." When the Czar was going to be riding through in his carriage, they got all the drunks out of sight, penned up the livestock, swept up the garbage, and stuck fresh-cut live green trees into holes along the route. The trees only had to last a couple of days.

What a scam. All these new walks and curbs and lights and flags to dazzle the IOC, and not a bit of it paid for by a production-derived tax base -- you know, those dirty, unsightly factories we got rid of.

All on the welfare cuff. Grape soda and red-hots, writ very large indeed.

Unfriendly to tourists as well....

Just got back from a little vacation to St. Louis. Some facts:

Parking right on the river across the street from the Arch? $4.00

Parking meters? 10 CENTS for 12 minutes.

Gasoline? 2.41/gallon
----------------------------------
Grant park parking here would have been $26 dollars.

The same 10 Cents at the meters in Zone 1? 2 Minutes worth of parking

Gas? 2.84 a gallon here today.

Hey Ritchie, any questions as to why I don't do anything in this city??
