Local Tax Hikes Here

Hooray hooray! In the middle of the biggest recession in how many decades? Got to love that Cook County government:
  • It’s time, once again, to pay the piper.

Cook County tax bills should arrive in your mailbox next week — and Chicago landowners will be paying a collective 6.04 percent more than last year, according to tax rates released today by Cook County Clerk David Orr.

Across Cook County, property owners — including the city and suburbs — are paying 4.2 percent more, said Bill Vaselopulos, the Cook County clerk’s director of tax extension.

And something that ought to have everyone reaching for the barrels of tar and bags of feathers?
Twelve-hundred taxing bodies? Anyone else think there might be more than a little fat to cut from these government entities?

How the hell, excuse me, can they justify raising taxes by 6.4%, you think that my property has gone up by that amount?

I know one thing, my property did not. In fact, it has lost more than that. Vote these people (bastards) out of office)!!

6%? That should just about cover the 6% pay increase that the alder-rats gave themselves.

This is the exact reason I left Chicago when I retired. If you are a property owner and retire, the tax rate will be onerous if you live to 70.

If you own on N/W or S/W sides you should see what your S/E side middleclass counterparts pay.
Look up similar properties ie. ranch 1200 sq/ft and NOT in the ghetto.
2/3 less then you pay and they can use the schools.
Ever wonder why some police officers drive new luxury cars and others drive a 5 y.o. p.o.s. ?
We are being UNFAIRLY TAXED !!!

50% of your property taxes go to 'education' - The 2006 budget for Steinmetz High School was $17,000,000. What do we get for our money? At Steinmetz they have a 30% graduation rate. The black and hispanic kids have different dimissal times in order to minimize gang fights at dismissal.

This is nothing more than compulsory theft by the State.

FYI Did you know that Cook County instantly assumes that when you purchase a property you are going to rent it out? The taxes for a rented property is double of what it is for a property that the owner resides in. If you are a homeowner/condo owner and didn't fill out the homeowners exemption form you can cut your taxes in half. Go to the Cook county Board of review fill out a certificate of error. bring your D.L. with your current address on it and I cut my taxes by close to 50%. They can only go back 4 years of retro pay but you get that money back that they overcharged you during that time with interest. Money that goes unclaimed after 4 years goes to Urkel and he can do anything he wants with the Money. Get your money back. I received close to $3,000 back from my taxes after only a two years in my house. I told a couple others about it and between the 6 of them they pulled in about $20,0000 back from the county. It only takes about ten minutes to check if you already have it or not when you go. I went to Bridgeview Courthouse when I had a court there already went in and stepped by a the C. C. Board of review room there. They were extremely nice and within ten minutes I walked out knowing that in a couple of months i was getting a big check. This is No Joke and as I told the others I Drink Bud Light

I figured since my house dropped so much in value, I'll go to the tax assessors office and see about a reassessment. To my suprise the deadline for Calumet township was september 15th. So I guess I'm screwed for another year and will pay higher property taxes, even as my house plummets in value!

Fuck you Daley, Stroger, Quinn, and Obama!

OF course there was an investigative report a few years back of these politicians and how they pay LOW property taxes, some times they were paying as if they lived on vacant lots even though the had huge new homes built there.

It blew up on the news. All the politicians where blameing the tax assessors office, etc.

I think Congressman Gutierrez was one of the tax scafflows. Another said "I just appealed by property tax assessment just as is the right of any property owning citizen" Bullshit. Probably got a friends of Angelo (Mozilo) VIP mortgage loan too.

So my brother figures what the heck and filed an appeal. You should have seen the look on his face when he opened up the official letter..DENIED! Next in line please!

What is even sadder is this topic was on Jay Leno and the local news from bright and sunny Maui yesterday.

Lets cut waste.
The CPD is at least 25% oven in upper managment and I'm sure other city agencies are too.
Lets cut the number of aldermen from 50 ( the largest number in the US ) to 15 or 25.
Combine city agencies.
Get rid of the mayors friends.
Better yet, want to see lots of elected officials in a panic, lets form as metrolpolitain police dept, and you can do the same for the fire dept. This would save tens of millions on excess brass and needless real estate.

This is not just a Chicago/Cook County problem, it is an American problem. First of all, why the hell do we need to pay "property tax" on our own property? Don't tell me "its for the kids so they can have a good education", "its for fire and police protection", etc.... Bull.

If we open up the books, we will see that there is massive. I mean massive corruption from the local level to the federal level. For example, according to the federal government, half, yes sir, half of all federal government contracts are no bid!

We as Americans need to end this so we can keep more of what we earn. We need a revolution.

Just put in a bid for a house in Scottsdale , Arizona. It was over 600,000 a few years ago. My bid is 350,000 and I will probably pay 360,00 for it. It is in a guarded, gated golf community ( wife Is a golfer). Homeowners assoc. fees are 125 a month- do common area maintenance, pools (4), tennis courts, etc
Property taxes--2170 annually
Property taxes in Chicago -5,000 annually

No, what you got was a notice that your real property's assessed value has decreased.

This, in and of itself, does not ensure that your property's tax bill will also decrease.

When I went to Roosevelt High School in the 70's, the graduation rate was little more than 50%. It is now 30 years later and the graduation rate is approximately the same!!!

WTF? What are we getting for our tax dollars?

Keep pouring our tax $$$ into these schools and getting the same results!

Isn't this Einstein's definition of insanity? (doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results????)

If I wasn't already vested in my pension, I'd be out of this crooked shithole. Here are just a few reasons why Chicago and Cook County can bite my ass:
I don't have a library in my neighborhood. The closest one is almost 2 1/2 miles away.
My park is roughly the size of Alderman Burke's backyard and is outfitted with, exactly, nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. It has a few pretty trees and a parkbench. No swimming pools, no tennis courts, no NOTHING. It's not really MY park. It's over a mile from my house, but it's the closest.
Taft High School is nothing but shit nowadays, thanks mostly to those students who think nothing of pissing on the manicured lawns on their way to the bus stop before they take the two hour bus ride back home.
The city street sweeper comes by exactly 4 times a year. If the street looks like shit, a call to the Alderswine's office will eventually get me a sweep, but I have to listen to the person on the other end of the phone complain that they are very busy and they'll "see what they can do."
My beat car passes probably once a day. I can't say for sure, but I really never see one. But they (or he) really don't need to come by at all because it's a nice, quiet neighborhood, and people in my neighborhood know the meaning of respect. We all act like human beings and contribute to the integrity of our neighborhood. Then if I complain so much, why do I live here? Because the rest of the city (with FEW exceptions) is a complete shithole. Even the northwest side is going downhill fast.

So, I send my kids to the library, as long as there's gas in the car. I spend $9,000+ to send each of my children to Catholic high school because my public high school is gang- and scumbag-ridden. I can go to the park with my grandchildren, and when we arrive, won't be able to do shit.
Why all the complaining? Because, twice a year, I get a tax bill that could CHOKE A FUCKING HORSE.

If taxes were neighborhood based, I wouldn't be paying shit because I'm not getting shit.

I see all the nice things the shitty neighborhoods have and continue to get regularly (well, nice if they didn't destroy everything), and I think about the several thousands I pay every 6 months to support these repeat criminals, shitbags and LAZY motherfuckers and I feel like puking. It truly makes me sick. Go out and get a fucking job. I DON'T OWE YOU SHIT.

Todd (Urkel) Stroger, go fuck yourself.

Little Richard, go fuck yourself.

For all you Bud Billiken supporters:
FUCK BUD BILLIKEN. YOU WANT IT, YOU PAY FOR IT. AND PAY THE TAB FOR THE HUNDREDS OF P.O.'S WHO HAVE TO BABYSIT YOU AND YOUR KIDS' USELESS ASSES.
NOW GO PAY YOUR $400 TAX BILL.
Oh, you can't? that's okay, Mr. Northwest Sider will pay it for you.

Sorry for the rant. I'm going to clean my guns now...

Nicely put! I'm in the 41st myself and noticed the same thing, although I do see 1612 occasionally. Like you said, I'm alright with that. The problems generally don't happen here because we care enough about our neighborhood and take care of things ourselves.
Doherty is a useless piece of shit. Having routine work done around this area is like pulling teeth. The potholes in my alley didn't get filled til like July or August.

And like you said, twice a year I have a fucking stroke when I get a tax bill, and I don't even HAVE kids! What the fuck am I paying for?!

New construction ( which is what Burke's two story home is) is taxed at 2% of cost for property taxes. Burke's property tax should be around $18,000 annual. He pays just over $8,000. Nice deal, isn't it?
