Our Wonderful Justice System
Remember the homeless jagoff who attacked a woman in front of the grocery store downtown because she wouldn't give him a cigarette? He and his companion jumped her, knocked out 14 of her teeth, attacked her boyfriend and who knows what other mayhem. This happened in August 2008.
Well evidently, he pled guilty on 02 October to two counts of robbery (felonies) and was released "time served awaiting trial" on 20 October. And mere hours later....
Well evidently, he pled guilty on 02 October to two counts of robbery (felonies) and was released "time served awaiting trial" on 20 October. And mere hours later....
Derrick King, 47, was paroled Tuesday for the earlier attack, which happened in August 2008 less than a mile east of today's incident. Hours later he was in police custody again, charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
Police say King approached the woman, who was smoking a cigarette, at about 3:20 a.m. in the 500 block of West Roosevelt Road and asked her for a smoke. She said no.
"He told her: 'Remember the couple who got beat real bad for not giving a cigarette? That was me,' " [...]
King then charged at her, Chaplin said. The woman caught the attention of two police officers patrolling nearby who quickly arrested King.
Couldn't even stay out of trouble for 24 hours. And he's out just after pleading guilty to two felonies? What a wonderful system we have here in Cook County! Maybe Alvarez and her crew want to explain this one?

Sounds like a mental.
That's why it's called the criminal justice system. No justice for the victims.
This guy will never be rehabilitated. He will never ever be a productive member of society. So why do we have to keep putting up with people like him. Why can't we just ship him off somewhere and be done with him forever.
Everyone's afraid to stand up and say that some people just don't belong living amongst a civilized society. It blows having to hear this stuff every day and even worse if it's one of our loved ones this animal attacks next.
But if it were a judge's family member or Anita Alvarez', forget about it.
Who was the judge?
Well our president would have given him at least two cigarettes for all the injustices he has received over the years.
What are the Rev's stand on this one.
There just has to be an injustice here.
Hey, don't fault Alverez. She got a conviction to two felonies right? After being locked up a year maybe Anita can front for some smokes next time. Maybe Toddler and Shortshanks can front some money for free smokes for convicts and this wouldn't happen.
This is actually a pilot program by the City of Chicago to put ex cons back to work in getting people to quit smoking!
Coppers can say what they want about the coppers who work downtown locking up these jagoff homeless people and how they're not the police but this story should remind us of how big a problem it is. I'm not saying the work is as important as what coppers are doing on the south and west sides but the work is definitely necessary.
This is appalling...and the judge who ordered the first (short) sentence should be stripped of his powers. Period.
If only we had done like Jesse Jackson Jr said, and given him a job, then I am sure that he wouldn't be being oppressed again by the system!!(either a job or some Nicorette Gum)
Anita, you have some s'plaining to do!
Great, lets let the felons out so they can commit more crimes!
truth in sentencing, screw "GOOD TIME". oh I was good in prison, let me out so I can prey on normal people!
PRISON IS MEANT TO KEEP THEM AWAY FROM THE POPULATION, NOT RE-HABILITATE!
THEY HAVE TO DO THAT ON THEIR OWN!
MAKE A DECISION TO BE A GOOD MEMBER OF SOCIETY!
He should be handcuffed to a junk car and used as an artifial reef in Lake Michigan.....
"80% and All The Blunt You Can Smoke!"....an idea whose time has come.
Those same yuppies don't think we deserve a raise
As much as I would like to throw Anita Alvarez and her crew under the bus....it sounds like this one is for the presiding judge to explain. Who was the judge presiding over this case that decided that time served (2 months) was an appropriate sentence for TWO counts of robbery which by the way is a felony last time I checked. And unless something has changed while I was sleeping, a felony is punishable by 365 or more days in jail.
This moron had TWO felony counts and basically served one month on each.....PLEASE TELL ME WHO THE PRESIDING JUDGE WAS THAT AGREED TO THIS?????
i remember this story, their was a lenghty article in the trib about all the medical bills incurred by the vic's--- the reporter was contacted and informed that vic's of crime get free medical care--- the steps you need to take are outlined on victim information notice-----
And we thought that we couldn't do worse than Devine. Like Cline, he's laughing about his successor.
Maybe daley can use some of the skyway money for anger management classes for this individual. Or just buy him some smokes.
Better yet, soon enough that citizen might be able to carry concealed and she can smoke that guy another way.
I wish a guy like that would make a move on me.
But being a cop I'd be strung up by my balls for beating an under privileged poor old street person.
Makes you long for medieval Germany ... ah the advances we've made as a human race, huh?
You mean the woman who was a junkie and had been arrested for shoplifting etc..? The one who officers wanted to raise money for? The one CPD officers pitched a bitch about when they learned her background and that maybe her and her boyfriend were trying score drugs.
RAISE MAY COOK COUNTY PROPERTY TAXES AND LET THREATS TO SOCIETY ROAM THE STREETS... I LOVE COOK COUNTY!
Who was the judge? This is one that we should make sure he/she gets the message that this is not acceptable. If the copper beat the offender, everyone would be up in arms.
He must be related to a Judge , aldercreature or other clouted individual.
He truly needs to get the living shit kicked out of him. He has nothing to fear from our court system.
He sounds like a CPS gifted student !!!!
Who cares?!! The good people have the justice system they wanted. Now they have to live with it.
Do you think the main stream media will pick up an run with this one...????? YAWN,,,,,WAIT!!!...did the police violate this poor mans civil rights???? no??!!...ummm, Well, forget it!!! Its a NON story!!!
Now I need a Pepsi !!!!
I'll bet that wouldn't happen if subsequent victims of these early release assholes could sue judges or parole boards!
dump the judge!
Future alderman!
And Cozzi gets 4 years....FUCK YOU!
Were both victims white? If so, make it a hate crime!
I know this wouldn't happen if CCW were enacted statewide.
Remember this name at Election time ... Judge Paul Beibel Jr. Come on SCC, a little investigation and anyone could have found out his name!
Please post the name of the garbage judge who made the ruling!Maybe the media parasites could actually do some work that isn't handed to them by this site and run a story on judges and their questionable sentencing, i.e. repeat offenders.
Another glaring case for concealed carry permits for handguns...watch the stunned look on homeys face as he hears the loud report, and looks down at the ever expanding red pool forming in the middle of his chest, the rubber knees as he crumbles to the ground and becomes a pile of soiled rags and organs ripe for donation to a more worthy soul.
"God made man, Colonel Colt made him equal"
In Cook County, I'm surprised he was even in jail that long.
He should sue. There is no problem he has that a little money wouldn't help.
If that's all he got, then this case has bad victim written all over it.
Geez, come on and pay attention people. The guy was sentenced October 2008 to three years. He been gone a year before getting paroled. Don't blame the judge. Sentenced to 3 years, only serve 1, less than 24 hrs on the street and locked up for the same exact crime, and it is a violent crime, not property crime.
Cook Circuit Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr.

It's every bit as important, if not more so than what's going on south and west, you deal with these deranged people wandering around the loop, near west and near south sides daily, preying on real victims. 001, 018, 012 and 021 deal with these wackos all the time, they all seem to have the same address, 1458 S. Canal, Pacific garden Mission...
You mean the woman who was a junkie and had been arrested for shoplifting etc..? The one who officers wanted to raise money for? The one CPD officers pitched a bitch about when they learned her background and that maybe her and her boyfriend were trying score drugs.

------------
And what about ANY of the above warrant having your face beat in and needing surgery for it?
Oh, and I think your 'trying to score drugs' theory just went out the window after hearing the narrative of this LATESt incident.
Hopefully he'll prey upon the Judge who released him's daughter & punch her into to a Coma. Then you'll see swift justice, until then it's thanks for playing lady hope you got a good dentist.
Piss &moan all you want about Politicans & Lawyers. JUDGES Have f'd you over more ways than you can imagine. THEY ARE THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE
I work the lock up, and I will never, ever again think bad thoughts about a coper that brings in a stink bum.
Illinois BADLY needs CCW. That'll solve this problem. Daley's buds would still get their $900 to haul the stiff. But just think of all the taxpayer $ that would be saved for all the free gubment shit these assholes get. 30 cents times two for the ammo, 900 for the body haul and a hole for it, reduction in crime...priceless!
this jagoff is responsible for his own actions not Alvarez or anyone else, shameon you SCC
Maybe the President could invite everyone over for a beer with the phrase " Lets all live together " Yea right, no justice for victims, lets get the Judges name in print now !!!!
This moron had TWO felony counts and basically served one month on each.....PLEASE TELL ME WHO THE PRESIDING JUDGE WAS THAT AGREED TO THIS?????
10/22/2009 03:05:00 AM
It's the same judge who has ordered you to sharpen your reading skills.
i have the solution to all the violence here! a CAPS sucker. we give out lollipops made of heavy sedatives to all criminals. when they feel angry and have to act a fool...a few licks and off to sleepyland they go and harmless as a butterfly! hand them out 10 minutes before school lets out...and SHAZAM!! no more problems. hand them out at 26th/cal,south and westsides too.
Crook County strikes again!
Obama should invite the shit head and the two victims over for a couple of cigarettes at the white house. No justice, no peace.
Just give him a cigarette! Jeez.
Homeless people are A LOT more polite in places where citizens (properly background-checked, trained by instructors paid from application fees and licensed, of course) are allowed to carry firearms.

REMEMBER COZZI!
Just give the man the DAMN CIGARETTE! Then use your taser to light it aiming it at his center mass and viola, cardiac arrest and he won't beg no more!
Did the victim who got her face smashed in know that this animal was out and about? WTF
Gave up the Criminal Justice Career heading to Medical School
See ya!
DO NOT let this mental asshole out. He is a severe danger to society...don't the prosecutors and judges get it?
Good thing Olympians don't smoke or Shortshanks would look really stupid explaining this one.
Conceal carry would have stopped this jagoff dead in his tracks.
3:05 am you must be having a midnight brain fart--the jagoff was in custody since, aug 2008--not just 2 months in jail, but still he committed a heinous battery,he disfigured the women, causing her to lose 14 teeth--these assholes need to stay in jail or be committed
Blame IDOC. I checked the IDOC website and this guy got 3 years and did not serve enough time.
When revealing the judge who approved the sentence, find out if it was a judge or an associate judge. If it was a judge, the person can be voted out. if it was an associate judge, that person is not accountable to the voters only to their follow judges to remain in power.
ANITA?
SOUNDS LIKE THE JUDGE FUCKED UP.
CANT BLAME J-FED 4 THIS ONE EITHER NAME THE JUDGE... SHOW A PICTURE OF HIM PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW WHAT ALL THESE PART JUDGES DO.
MAKE R JOBS HARDER.
Send this animal to the Judges house that set him free ! Do not let the judge buy any cigarettes.
Justice served.
In a society that allows concealed carry, this peice of shit wouldn't last long !!! BOOM ! BOOM !!!!
Asshole gone !!!!
from the chicago tribune article regarding the 2008 beating
"Burgess and King have long criminal histories.
Burgess has three previous felony convictions for aggravated battery to a police officer and drug-related charges, according to court records. King has five misdemeanor convictions for domestic battery, theft, criminal trespassing and criminal damage to property, prosecutors said."
like prior posts have said who the hell was the judge, and who the hell was the states attorney, they both should be fried!!!
He must be a member of the Delta Kai house, double secret probation for him
this jagoff is responsible for his own actions not Alvarez or anyone else, shameon you SCC
And who is responsible for putting a deal on the table that let him out "time served" for two felonies? We don't think jagoff sentenced himself, do you?
it was the fault of the shmuck public defender who said he is an up-standing citizen who contributes to the community..he stood in front of the judge looking crazy & repeatedly the pd told him to stop starring at the witnesses. well thanks to our wonderful judicial system & anita he got a slap on the wrist for simple battery on a previous incident this summer. the crazy ass has a rap sheet longer than my arm...no cure for him just lock his ass up before he really kills somebody!
CCW is not the solution as some point out.
Stating that this crime would not or could not take place because CCW
would deter it is foolish.
CCW increases the degree of difficulty on this job.
Better yet, soon enough that citizen might be able to carry concealed and she can smoke that guy another way.
10/22/2009 04:19:00 AM
true that!
You made me laugh!
Let 'em all out!! JOB SECURITY. Then, when it gets real bad, Daley will be voted out, hundreds of new cops will be hired and maybe a CONTRACT.
Stay safe my BROTHERS and SISTERS
Judge Beibel? Is this the guy who's sister is a SGT and ex brother-in-law is a boss. Think he would be a little more aggressive in his sentencing.........

Biebel is the Chief Judge at 26 & California, I doubt he was the one whoa actually heard this case.

Remember Cozzi! Never trust a Fed!
11:15....Guess we know whose side you're going to be on when the constitution gets rolled back.
He was just about to turn his life around...
Two word -- concealed cary
WOW! and poor Bill Cozzi is serving time in prison....
Hey 11:15 on 22Oct-
Please explain how ccw makes my job harder or increases the danger to me. Please. I'm doing my best to make sense out of your statement but I can't. Because it doesn't make any sense. Your position is not only wrong, it's indefensible. I've been on this job for almost three decades, and yes, I too have on occassion arrested people for carrying guns when I should have let them go. Middle class, tax paying, otherwise law abiding citizens whose only "crime" was the desire to survive in this urban jungle. And I'm ashamed of myself for doing it. My only defense that I was young, dumb, full of come and wanted to get on Tac. Shame on me. And shame on any copper that will arrest any of the kind of people I mentioned. In todays climate of no accountability for the thugs of this city, in an age where the criminal becomes the victim, in an era where the system is geared to protect the defendant and not the victim, how can you blame a decent person for carrying a firearm? How could you arrest them?
CCW does NOT increase the danger to you or make your job harder. You took an oath when you took this job. An oath to protect the citizens and defend the Constitution of the United States. How about following that Constitution and not the whims of some politician who is surrounded by armed bodyguards twenty four hours a day?
Where is the news media? Outrage? Another poor misunderstood minority just "trying to get by," you know!

10/22/2009 11:15:00 PM
CCW does not increase the degree of difficulty on your job. As it is, police have no legal obligation to come to a civilian's aid..so therefore, other than investigation and clean-up, you aren't going to "protect" us. I'm cool with that. All I want is the freedom the Constitution grants me to protect myself. I won't be shooting you, or pointing a gun at you, or carrying into bars or schools. In fact, when I see you alone because the city doesn't care about 2-man cars anymore, and some asshole you stop starts shit with you, I'll be the one shooting that piece of shit, so we can both go home to our families that day.
Have you no faith in fellow law-abiding citizens? The government really has destroyed your view of us, hasn't it? You know it does work in like, 48 other states, right?
Were both victims white? If so, make it a hate crime!
10/22/2009 08:42:00 AM
ASA's refuse to, even when the M/1's state the reason they rob Whites is due to the victims being White.
F crook county it's it cronnies.
looks like a good cook county employee to todd stroger. has he beaten up any women?
That's why it's called the criminal justice system. No justice for the victims.
"Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent."
-Adam Smith
Hope you all are well.
Be safe out there.
Were both victims white? If so, make it a hate crime!

ASA's refuse to, even when the M/1's state the reason they rob Whites is due to the victims being White.
10/23/2009 11:12:00 AM
Maybe the ASAs charge Robbery instead of Hate Crime because Robbery is a Class 2 Felony and Hate Crime is a Class 4?
Also, the guy was out because the judges and the IDOC have essentially conspired and hid behind the truth in sentencing laws. A 3 year sentence is NEVER 3 years in Illinois by operation of law. Blaming the SA, while easy, is misguided.
If the general public had the slightest idea how utterly disfunctional the criminal justice (or is it injustice) system is in Cook County, there would be a general revolution in the streets demanding reform and the return of the gallows to 26th street. In any other county in Illinois this piece of shit would be locked up for the next 15-20.
You are going to have to stop seeing these people as human beings and kill them. They don't see each other as human beings and kill each other. Why should we citizens give them more respect than they give each other. Anyone remember the black hand that was going around the west side ten years ago or so cleaning up the garbage?
