- The Superintendent will be conducting Open Forums on the below dates for all Sworn members. Off duty personnel are encouraged to attend (department identification will be presented upon entrance):

These meetings provide a two fold purpose:
- If no one shows up, J-Fed can claim nothing is wrong and everyone loves him;
- If someone shows up to bitch, J-Fed can have them transferred out of their spot.
Think it can't happen? It already has, a number of times, when J-Fed first held his forums and Aunt Bea spent the meeting taking down names of "malcontents." And it's awfully nice of J-Fed to hold these meetings at 1700 hours when (A) the most manpower is currently on-duty working and (B) anyone who happens to be off is eating dinner with their families or helping the kids do homework.

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Recently rebuffed in its attempt to hold the 2016 Summer Games in Chicago, the U.S. Olympic Committee does not plan to enter a U.S. city in the race for the 2020 Summer Games and remains uncertain about when it will next attempt to bring a Games to U.S. soil, USOC Chief Executive Scott Blackmun said Saturday morning.
"The cold and hard reality is Chicago spent approximately $80 million on its bid," Blackmun said.
"It's going to be difficult to get U.S. cities to continue to invest to that level unless they think they have a realistic chance of winning. The [International Olympic Committee] sent us a message, loud and clear, that they don't want the Games to be in the United States."

The meetings are held at 1700hrs because, in Weis-world, everyone works 9-3, Monday through Friday. You mean we don't all live in Weis-worl?

I don't think that he can say that nothing's wrong if no one shows up. The notice doesn't say that the meetings are to out problems, it just says an open forum. I don't think speaking out about anything with this administration is going to change anything. The damage is already done and there isn't one boss here that can turn back the clock or make things better. Just my two cents. I wouldn't waste my time. But then I didn't waste my time the first time.
So what are we going to discuss this time?
- Transparency in "merit" promotions?
- Fairness in consideration of getting into "elite" units?
- Promises of better cars and equipment?
- The elimination of unfair disciplinary measures?
- Morale, and what the 3-year-on-the-job-average policy group is strategizing to combat it's near non-existence?
This is no more than a knee jerk, smoke and mirrors attempt to have something on paper to say "hey, we tried to get our finger on the pulse". We all know that J-Fed doesn't give a rat's ass. As stated, this is an attempt to isolate the malcontents; don't play into this hand, folks.
For shits and giggles, I recently logged into the 501 blog. What I observed in the brief few minutes I could stomach was pure bullshit rhetoric: every petty gripe or legitimate concern voiced by officers that J-Fed actually responded to consisted of (not verbatim)..."great idea, I'll have (insert worthless exempt/boss here) look into that" or "we share that concern, so it'll be addressed...". From what I've seen, nothing of substance was accomplished to address various concerns. Just more smoke blown up our collective ass by the million dollar man.
I suggest no one show at any of the meetings. Sure, J-Fed and his merry band of idiots will claim a victory of sorts, but the truth will still be undeniable to those to which it pertains - you and me. And that's all that matters.
Waste of time for whoever goes to these meetings ! All j-rod does is agrees with a person asking a question, says its a very good point/suggestion and says he will look into it. HE NEVER EVER had any answers to any of the questions. Just like the post says, it is designed to probe us to benefit the bosses and j-fart and tha mayor.
Gee, I wonder what would happen if an old guy showed up and unloaded on him ?

A 56-year-old Chicago Police officer who did not report to work was found dead in her Mount Greenwood home Sunday morning, apparently of natural causes.
The Morgan Park District police officer did not report to work Sunday morning, and officers conducting a well-being check found her dead in her home about 8:20 a.m., police said.
Police said the officer was a 21-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department.
Police are not commenting on the cause of death, but said it is not suspicious. Because there was no foul play and the family did not request an autopsy, the body was released to a funeral home and will not be examined by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

I think having meetings with the troops is great. The venues are interesting.
A question is will the Supt's contract be renewed. His contract expires on 31 Jan. 2011. The Mayoral election is in late Feb. of 2011. The FOP election is in March - 2011. The Aldermanic run-off elections are in Apr. - 2011.
How does the Mayor grapple with these issues? The Mayor has two choices: (1) The Mayor slides the current Supt. out about appox. 6 months before his contract expires (2) The Mayor extends the Supt's contract approx. 3 - 6 months after the elections. Either method is feasible. They both allow for racial and ethic strive to be avoided. Regardless of which of these mechanisms is potentially utilized, the Mayor can not allow this issue to dangle.

How much do you think Ariel makes holding and managing billions of city deferred comp accounts?
A few years ago the city dumped a bunch of mutual funds and forced us to choose from a so-called equivalent selection of, guess what, Ariel Funds; that is when a lot of our deferred comp funds went to John W. Rogers, Jr. and Ariel Capital Management.
You can bet your mortgage that lots of $$ goes back to daley in the form of campaign contributions.
Look at the basket of funds available in deferred comp, all those Ariel funds are controlled by Desiree Rogers ex-husband, John W. Rogers, Jr. Another "good friend" of daley.

Maybe masters and the female policy group might be there to answer questions.
The object of the meetings, as well as thinning of our ranks, and getting as many of the "new" officers as possible away from the salty veterans in Patrol is to weed out the last remaining Old Guard. Those who have Served and Protected and had a sense of Loyalty, Honor and common Sense. All these virtues that our mayor and his contract killer Jody have tried to destroy, replaced with faulty technology and event numbers.

There is plenty of parking in the lighted lot south of the school and 712 will be assigned to that location for the duration of the meeting. Please come. The Supt. needs to hear from us.

Over thirty years ago, while FTO’ing a new troop in Dist-3, we stopped that Miles piece of crap, drunk driving, stolen station wagon, missing front seat so he could use his wheel chair, and using a six foot pole to operate the brakes and accelerator pedals. In his possession were the proceeds of a Doctor’s and Nurse’s stolen credit cards purchases he made. He victimizes the very people who tried to help that piece of garbage. He had a screwdriver stuffed in his sleeve and tried to use it. He was so messed up he couldn’t stay in his chair. Cook Co. Courts just keep giving him a pass out of some grossly miss placed sympathy for his condition. I can’t believe after all these years he’s still around! The money he’s cost the system over the years of his sorry existence would have been better spent keeping him in lock up so he couldn’t have crapped up anyone else’s life like he does his own. Now a good man, Cozzie, gets what Miles should have had all along for the past thirty years. Absolutely ludicrous! I’ve no doubt Miles went out of his way to provoke and challenge Ofcr. Cozzie till he responded. Cozzi suffered plenty for his departments penalty. Why add to it??? What the hell ever happened to double jeopardy! Reminds me of has been FED Margolis and how he treated our own and look what became of him. Goes around comes around. Hang tough Cozzie; from retired State Troops who know you got a raw deal.

The FOP is not commenting because the Arbitrator does not want negotiations done via the media. He (The Arbitrator) was pissed off at the Aldermen who stated a couple of months ago that if he awarded us too much of a raise they would not ratify the contract in the city counsel. Binding Arbitration works both was regardless of the rumors you hear. Whatever he awards we and the city have to stick by it.
Bedsides, don't forget, it was mayor daley (yes I did not capitalize his name, he does not deserve it) who asked for arbitration not the FOP.
He is also forcing the Fire Dept into Arbitration by insisting on more Variances at the Fire Houses. For those of you who don't know what that is he wants less Firefighters staffed at each house to save money. There may not be a lot of fires as compared to a couple of years ago but when a big one hits you need all the manpower you need to strike it. His cutting manpower could cost lives, including CFD personnel, in a large fire. Kind of like cutting vehicle maintenance costs and salting on LSD killed Sgt Haymaker.
Funny thing though is that he did not pull the 16 percent raise off the CFD's table like he did with us.

I know for a fact a former sgt in the academy on the range gave him private lessons to get the 40 hours of instruction after hours. Why is it tha he had to attend another LE Academy to get certified? The FOP and the PBPA for the sgts, lts and capts should pick one meeting and have bus loads of officers at the meeting and they should notify the media they will have thousands of officers at the meeting. They should do it at every meeting, but one is better than nothing. WE NEED TO SHOW A UNITED FRONT.
If we really want to get crazy have the presidents of each association there too. Polish American Police association, Italian, African, Latin; all of them.
The Presidents of each organization (fop, pbpa, papa, etc) should read questions on behalf of the officers.
If we don't step up to the plate and make a big deal out of the problems, then there are no problems to make a big deal about.

The Presidents of each organization (fop, pbpa, papa, etc) should read questions on behalf of the officers.
If we don't step up to the plate and make a big deal out of the problems, then there are no problems to make a big deal about.

Will Jody put a moratorium on merit for awhile and let the people who scored the the tests get promoted??? With all the scandal with the alderman, etc., you would think they would put a stop to the merits for awhile because we all know it's the city hall connections. That will help morale.

At our January staff meeting, the commander told us Weis told the exempts NO HIRES this year and NO PROMOTIONS this year and that everyone would have to make do with what they had because that's all they were going to get this year.
Has the FOP been contacted on whether we should boycott the meetings? Not too long ago, a lot of us marched united around city hall to show No Confidence in the Mayor and J-Fed. The march was sponsored by the FOP. I would think that the FOP now should give us guidance in whether we should attend his meetings. Since I marched, I will not attend unless the FOP ok's it. Sadly, I doubt we will hear from the FOP, and some of us will attend.
Do not go to any of his forums. Any police officer that attends is a scab.
Weis knows that he really added to his fkd up presence with his arrogant condescending comments about our deceased fellow sergeant. He keeps digging himself deeper into the hole. So lets leave him in the hole.
This is a desperate plea on his part to gain our faith and trust. No doubt the absurd idea came from his think tank.
That he went along with this plan means he's more stupid than we knew, or his trusted crew is having a good laugh setting him up to make a fool of himself.
Our mere presence at his forums will give the delusional Weis encouragement to think we support him. Attending these forums sends him a message of support, as if we care what he has to say.

A few voiced their gripes about the problem in this Department. But, did Weis listen and fix the problem? FUCK NO and that was TWO YEARS AGO !! My dream for the first meeting...Room packed to the rafters with lively coppers. Chatter, laughter, etc....everything you'd expect at a gathering of the real po-lice. Just then weisel and his underlings walk in. The room immediately becomes completely silent. Da supe gets up to address the packed auditorium. On cue, the entire crowd snaps to attention and turns their collective back to this turd. Captain Caveman and his posse then leave amid uproarious cheers. Now that would be something. Legendary even.

Maricopa County was spending approximately $18 million a year on stray animals, like cats and dogs. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors approved.
The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behaviour. They give great classes for anyone who would like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.
The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. Teresa and I adopted a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter two years ago. He was neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted the day we got him. Cost us $78..
The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.
