Two-Hundred-Forty-Two?

  • A man was arrested for the 242nd time Thursday night --this time after allegedly touching customers aggressively on an outside patio of an upscale Gold Coast restaurant, police said.

Darryl Marlow, 54, of 940 N. Cambridge Ave., was arrested at 6:05 p.m. at Tavern on Rush, 1031 N. Rush St., according to police who said Marlow was cited with panhandling in a prohibited manner after violating a city ordinance.

Marlow was seen reaching into Tavern on Rush’s outside patio seating area where food was being served and touching customers while aggressively panhandling for money, according to a police report.

So exactly when does this rise to the level of imprisoning or committing the mentally ill person so he stops bothering people? He's obviously incapable of functioning in society. We'll forgo our standard snide comment about bringing back street executions for the moment, but this individual has proven beyond a doubt that the system is broken.

One hundred arrests really ought to be a life sentence somewhere.

"We'll forgo our standard snide comment about bringing back street executions for the moment, but this individual has proven beyond a doubt that the system is broken."

Nothing snide about it; serious question. In a tough economy, with ammunition terribly expensive and budget cutbacks everywhere -- places like Ford Heights can't even afford a can of Brasso for their badges -- I've moved away from the concept of mass shootings to simple mass burials. I didn't say "dignified," just simple -- but, then anything'd have more class than, say, Burr Oak Cemetery -- without hardly trying.

"One hundred arrests really ought to be a life sentence somewhere."

Book of Green Stamps, issued at birth; fill it up with car battery thefts and B&Es and domestics and hallway-pissings and turnstile-jumpings and smashed bottles, and you qualify for the burial program.

Gotta be some kind of standards, with a Cat D7 as the ultimate arbiter. Again, one cannot "deter" idiots, but one sure as hell can eliminate them, without having to wait for them to walk in front of a speeding car or something.

Reading this posting really took me down memory lane, I remember the first one of these I met on the job. We used to call him “Breads” because he liked to walk into a grocery store and rip open a package of white bread and consume it in the most revolting fashion possible.

In my experience assholes like this actually want to be imprisoned. They realize that they can not function on their own and welcome the structured environment of incarceration, they actually flourish in it. They commit these crimes because they welcome punishment and are totally fearless and without remorse. Forget about back alley attitude adjustments, they have been there many times before and they expect it.

They are without question mentally ill and require confinement. Releasing them back into their tortured empty lives is the worst possible thing that be done with them. I’ve seen it for thirty years. My advice, every time they act out, pinch’em, throw the book at them and be hard as nails, but not brutal or cruel.

I know no one asked for my opinion or advice and I’m not going to read the other comments, so don’t bother telling me I’m a jag-off.

Did anything ever come from the announcement several years ago about opening a mental health court. The way it would go is if someone was arrested and they were found to have mental health issues they would been seen in a separate court so they could be assessed appropriately and monitored. Did that ever happen?

How it happens in CrookCounty:

Judge: Sir, this is your 242nd time being arrested?

Marlow: Yes.

Judge: Ok...10 hours community service. Lunch time!

The laws here suck! They're geared to letting offenders stay on the streets.

I stopped downtown Thursday night as I took Friday off of work to grab some sushi. I got the hell out because the warmer weather defintely bought out a lot of the element. You cna bet I'll be avoiding the city as much as possible with the shortage of officers and crime up

The criminals that walk amongst us is sickening. I went to felony branch court the other day on an individual who had a 26 page rap sheet with 7 felony convictions. Of course, there was no probable cause found in his most recent case. The courts release these scurges of society over and over again to rape and pillage society of the few grains of respect that are left. Something must be done, but the question is what. I honestly don't have a suggestion. These judges are slated which means there is no way to remove them much like our mayor.

I usually get the answer of "huh?" when I ask them where they live. The correct way to ask is "where you stay?" Then when they say "huh?" you remain silent and wait, the question will be answered in 4 seconds or so, there is a delay in there and the automatic response of "huh?" is not meant to elicit an answer.

You know what I'm saying?

Remember the "mentally ill" homeless man who made a specialty of violently attacking women in the Loop? He did a lot of damage, too - broken bones, etc. It finally took the Chicago Tribune devoting the entire back page of Section 1 to this guy, detailing his long record, etc. before something was finally done about him.

To me, "mentally ill" means you can't take care of yourself -- can't tell a brick from a can of peas from a guinea pig, don't know which way your shirt goes on, can't get across the street safely, etc. Had one wandering around on the subway tracks (shudder) "lookin' fer somethin'" while trying to hold his ten-sizes-too-big pants up. Now, that is crazy.

People who go around threatening and intimidating passersby, demanding money, saying "they're going to shoot someone" who then straighten right up, yessir, nosir, when they see a blue uniform don't qualify. They're "crazy like a fox" and obviously know exactly what the f**k they're doing -- and they seem to outnumber the genuine item by twenty to one.

The right to bear arms. A few of these assholes get shot by someone they are threatening, I guarantee crime would go down, because as someone else pointed out, most of them are not mentally ill, they are dumb like a fox.

Years ago, 020 had a guy (David Farley) who was barred as an arrestee, you weren't allowed to lock him up. You had to deal with him in your own way. I was on the wagon one day, a beat car had him. A Sgt said to get rid of him, far, far away. We took him down to the old Falstaff brewery and let him out right on Indianapolis Ave. We then stopped off at several south side food emporiums for the W/C, (Leon's and Lindy's) and we got back to 020, we saw him on the street. He had no money, so I can only assume, that an 004 Sgt had an 471 take him up north to get rid of him.

020 also had a guy named MadDog. His trick was to lie down in the middle of a busy street, Sheridan, Broadway, Ashland, Western, etc and get people to wreck trying to avoid him. He lost one night on Ashland, his head looked like a ripe melon--he had well over 400 arrests and was only in his mid 30s.

Every district has their versions of guys like this, they all have their LINK cards and they all vote Democratic.

If every time he got locked up he got 20 lashes, or 20 electric shocks do you think we would have this problem..???

No, every time he gets arrested, he goes to the hospital, he gets a bed, he gets FREE FOOD, he can get his laundry done ( until Tom Dart stopped this), jail has no fear to these rats.

No, but if a patron at that restaurant gives this asshole the back of his hand....well...Jughead would want to pull a Cozzi on him. The media would play the security tape over and over, Lovey and Lovey would demand to see their client in jail. And the other 242 arrests would not be heard about.

If someone cracks someone like this, tell the victim how to explain that they were being ATTACKED by the panhandler and in fear of their lives or great bodily harm, not just bothered.

If anyone, liberal media, or whatever disagrees with this, then you take Mr.243 or 244 now, into your home and rehabilitate him.

Rule #1 taught to me by cop buddies and martial arts instructors alike: "Do not stay around and admire your handiwork. If the guy is a POS, which he is for attacking you, the cops will show up and think nothing of the fact that he got the shit beat out of him, or stabbed with his own knife. If for some reason they actually can somehow connect you (which they either won't, or said shithead will be wanted and taken into custody anyway), they'll show up at your door and you say NOTHING except: "I was afraid for my life, officer. I would like to speak to my attorney before I say anything else."
