Police & Fire Committee

A new aldercreature in charge since Ike went to jail:
  • Mayor Richard Daley has named Ald. Anthony Beale, 9th, to the influential post of City Council Police and Fire Committee chairman.

“He’s very good,” Daley said today when asked why he picked Beale. “Anthony has a good career. He works very hard for his community. Up and coming political leader. He’s very good. Good government official. He works very hard in the community.”
And of course, Beale hates the police, so it's a win-win for Shortshanks:
  • ...Anthony Beale (9th) — who has infuriated rank-and-file-police officers by targeting their supplemental pay and proposing more power for “rent-a-cops”...
It's not supplemental pay - it's contractual agreements whereby the police accepted lower salaries (which are pensionable) in return for increases in allowances granted for uniforms or availability for callback on days off. We did our part and saved the city millions of dollars a year by taking lower salaries than we could have demanded.

Of course, since the pension is now funded at something like 30% of obligations, we seem to have lost on all counts.

Was Patrick Daley testifying at a Federal Grand Jury hearing?

Patrick Daley's detour: A soldier's story . . .
Comments

April 15, 2010

BY MICHAEL SNEED Sun-Times

Sneed has learned Mayor Daley's soldier son, Patrick, has been placed on inactive duty and will undergo surgery.

"It was shocking news to him," said a source close to Daley, "but in the process of preparing for his deployment overseas, a military medical checkup disclosed he had a serious orthopedic problem."

(Tom Cruze/Sun-Times file)

An avid bodybuilder, Patrick survived a tough tour of duty in Afghanistan as a member of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division and was placed on inactive duty in late 2008.

He subsequently returned to Chicago and eventually settled in Russia, where he is language fluent.

Late last year, he was reactivated and preparing to go overseas again. His mother, first lady Maggie Daley, who is battling cancer, went to Florida to say goodbye to her son shortly before her latest cancer surgery last month.

"Patrick's surgery requires release from active duty for now, but following the surgery, he could still be called back," said the source.

Patrick enlisted in the service in 2004 after receiving his MBA with honors from the University of Chicago. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., before his initial tour of duty and finished his basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., in April 2005.

Stay tuned.

Beale's appointment was carefully timed to be ready for the arbitrator's decision which is expected to go against the City. This way Beale can be the point man denouncing the decision and less of daley doing it.

Expect the City to scream bloody murder about the decision if it is at all in our favor. More adversarial bullshit. More reasons to feel bad about what we chose for a career. another morals killer, as if we didn't have enough.

All I want now is out of here, I want out and away from this shithole city and horseshit police department. I have had enough. Even if the arbotrator decision is favorable for us expect more contentious shit and fights and bum rapping of the police and possible a protracted court battle to get it enforced.

Oh year, and make arrests and write tickets and get those event numbers.

He is educated, he has experience and he has been around, but that does NOT make him the man for this job. We don't need to use negatives bit of rage to express our feelings, we need to state fact. He oversees one of the poorest and violent communities in the city. Other than the block he and his mother live on, no one else in the area has anywhere near that amount of lights, nor clean anything. He hates the police, though his dad is a retired copper.

This is the ultimate slap in the face. The one Alderman out of 50 that has come right out and blatently tried to push policy to directly negative impact our entire department, Daley appoints as the head? Then he can't even justify his decision other than saying he is a good guy! ALL of unions should stand up and together TODAY and let Daley know how we feel. Rather we hold a press conference or just meet, plans need to be put in action to let the city know we are registering, we are even registering the crack heads and we will make sure we have "change" in 2011.

Good morning and welcome to Retirement world!

Free Cozzi and Jfled, why don't you do us all a favor and flee, no I did not say he was a flea, but a great analogy none the less.

Editorial I sent into Sun Times - chances are it will never make print....

In response to the Sun Times's and Ald. Anthony Beale's claim that the Chicago Police enjoy a "supplemental" uniform and duty availability pay, it would be refreshing to see the media present the information a little more objectively. In a previous contract negotiation, the police actually agreed to accept lower salaries (which are pensionable) from the City in return for increases in the allowances granted for uniforms and being available for callback on their days off (income that is not pensionable). And having saved the City all that money - and decreased the ultimate value of their own pensions in doing so - now the City (Ald. Beale) is coming back to say they want to rescind that portion of the contract "to trim the fat".

Most other departments around the nation actually provide the police their uniforms and equipment but the City of Chicago does not, and has saved countless millions of dollars by making the officers buy everything themselves. The City expects that the officers will pay for and have on hand several different types of uniforms, body armour/riot gear, bullet-proof vest, duty gun and back-up weapon, handcuffs, pepper spray, etc. This is extremely expensive equipment that the officers are responsible for buying and updating.

The police officers of this city have been working diligently, without a contract (which means without any cost-of-living increase), for over three years now. And any retroactive pay they even might receive, the City has been sitting on for three years making all of the interest on. So the City has already made money off of the backs of officers, from the previous contract and from taking over three years to negotiate the present one.

If Ald. Beale were truly interested in trimming the fat, perhaps he could rescind the 6% pay raise he and the other aldremen voted for themselves in the midst of the recession, as well as the increased slush funds (which is money they don't have to account for) and the pay raises for their workers (friends/relatives) that they all voted in. Perhaps if he were truly interested in reviewing all aspects of the budget, the inequities might become more obvious.

O.T.

Ref; Watch for the current detective and Sergeant's lists to be thrown out. That's right...as in start from scratch.

Things are moving fast at 35th, and if you connect the dots the picture becomes clear. The Supt. wants the department to be as much like the G as possible. That means no promotional exams, only appointments. Have u noticed all the postings in the Daley Bulletin about “submitting applications for openings…” commander, Lt. in OCD, C/O spots….. The practice will be expanded to Sgts and D-2s

The powers know we don’t have any $$ for promotional testing, and those results always end up in court and costing even more time and $$. The mayor is not giving the department anything else and on top of that wants total control over appointments, hiring and promotions. Just look at all the city hall ( not Fed’s) bodies that have taken over offices at 3510! We just added a new city hall Streets and San guy this week.

Ask around, recently all Lt’s, Capts and Cmdrs have had to attend training on ‘interviewing procedures for appointment and promotion’. The writing is on the wall gentlemen. No more test. Submit your application and sit for an interview and let HR (which is headed by a City Hall appointee) pick who gets hired, transferred and promoted. An excellent example is the current Capt situation. Several Lt’s are currently waiting in a pool ( no rank order) …they were “selected” on the basis of an application.

The process plays directly into City Halls hands and gives them the out that there is no $$$ for costly exams…..

This Daley clan is unbelieveable and continues to throw it in our face, but we have a choice in the voters booth, and then to put this POS Beale in a position to oppose the police and fire is an insult, time for FOP & PBPA to buy some underwear with BALLS.

Beale does hates the police. That's why I moved after living on 101st and Prairie for about 30 years. I no longer felt safe in my own house. The neigborhood went up for grabs when he got into office. The kids still party over on Bennett School property at night, especially on the weekends. It's the meeting place for all gang members and their women. They pee and shit on the lawn, drink and threw their garbage onto the street, play their music (f--K the Police)at 1,2,3:00am and NOTHING is done to curtail these activities. I tried calling his office, never there, and will not return calls. He is useless. He turns a blind eye to any illegal activites in his community. He walks his children to the corner every morning for the school bus. See, he does not want to send his own children to the closest school, which is Bennett. There is a BIG gang problem on the corner of 101st and Indiana (Northeast corner) which has been continuing for the last 10 years or better. I've lived on Prairie for at least 30 years and better. They gamble in the alley in the 101st block between Prairie and Indiana, been doin that for years. Rosemoore use to be quiet and peaceful, but now it is another ghetto area. Beale even lives in the 100th block of Prairie and can't see the forest for the trees. There are even more problems right under his nose (where is lives). Giving him this new position is a BIG mistake. His IQ is not that great, check out his school records. I have nothing against handicapped people, but this is a BIG mistake in giving something to someone who can't even control his own community, let alone his own block. There's a house on his block that's up for rent. This is a bad move. More scattered housing people, who moved in on 101st and Prairie and when I came home from work saw that they hung their undies and other garments on the front bannister to dry. The people on these two blocks (100th & 101st & Prairie) are quietly moving out of the neighborhood and even the state. I did. Could not take it. Decent home owners, law abiding and tax paying citizens are no longer wanted in the Rosemoore Area, let alone Chicago. Can you blame them?

'rent-a-cops'?!? who is holding those private contracts who only pay out a mere fraction to the actual workers (no benefits)?

these security patrols are throughout the city now, if they expand their powers...who will be held accountable for their scattered efforts, brutality beefs, civil rights violations, etc.

Since these workers are only hourly part-time, they are expendable ...company can just fire them without due process, throw them under the bus, afterall, they are expendable...

WHY would an alderthief want to expand police powers to rent-a-cops when you already have a police force in place that is UNDERMANNED?! ONLY A CRIMINAL WOULD KNOW WHY!

OFF TOPIC:

It always amazes me how politicians will spend our (taxpayer's) money like drunken sailors, but keep their own money under lock & key.

Example: V.P. Joe Biden released his 2009 tax returns. He and his wife made a "modest" $333,000.00. Compared to POTUS's $5 million.(That's how the newspaper described it) I guess my $70,000.00 is "poverty level" if his $333,000 a year is modest.

He and his wife made charitable donations of $4,820.00.

WHAT A CHEAP FUCK! I made more donations than that on my "MODEST" income.

Weeks go by and lo and behold, the new co of the sup's office is none other than civ. Bob Roman, who was neither eligible or nor applied for the position! More proof that jfled is not only a coward, but cannot help himself from continuously lying either. Another stellar move from the pack of jagoffs on the 5th floor.

In addition, in another stellar leadership move, on the busiest retirement days in Department history, with Personnel having to process over 200 retiree on Thursday and Friday, where is the director of personnel when she is needed most?

I agree. The mentioning of Patrick being an avid bodybuilder is odd. He must be getting surgery in the States and is probably fucking huge from taking massive amounts of steroids. OR he is getting discharged soon and Daley is trying to lay the ground work for his return and political ambitions.

Prosecutors: Video catches Streamwood cop beating motorist
**********************************
O/T: Go to Chicago Breaking News and watch the video. They charged the officer with aggravated battery! The guy was not compliant and kept raising his hands! The Cook County States attorney made a different statement. The states attorney's office is not our friends and have quite frankly become our enemies. Screw those in car cameras and the states attorney's office.

I'm a little surprised on this one. You guys are usually up on your game. But given what little was written about Beale's "elevation" to the Police and Fire Committee gives me some concern. It is a much larger problem that you may realize. More is happening than what appears on the surface. Has anyone really considered the ramifications of this "appointment"?
Daley is obviously pissed about how the police have reacted to his policies and his anger at the potential for the police to gain concessions after the arbitration ruling comes out tomorrow. To me it appears that he is reacting like a kid, hitting back at the police by appointing this clown to that post. While many of you may think this guy is sort of passive and will be unable to do much to f'over the police, believe me when I tell you that he is going to stick it to us - just as Shortshanks intended.
Beale has no moral compass and no love for the police - at all- even though his dad used to be the police in 006. I don't know their history, and frankly don't care. But his attempts to take money and benefits away from the police; his many attempts to introduce private security firms into the mix and deny citizens the benefits of professional police service; his cozy relationship with Jesse Jr and Rev. Meeks; his disregard for fairness and the rules, chosing to rely on his clout and the support of his anti-police constituency will spell disaster for an already demoralized, undermanned and undergunned police department.
We are indeed in for rough days. This guy has no limit as to the damage he could cause - all in the name of feathering his own political nest and continuing to rip off the taxpayers - with Shortshanks in the wings.
If for some reason you doubt what I'm posting, all you need do is check with coppers that live and/or work in the 9th Ward or the 5th District. If they're honest about what goes on out there you would be shocked at what you would learn.

This guy is an embarrassment. We better vote all these chumps out next time!

4/15/2010 03:51:00 PM

...............

Libs never make large Charitable contributions. They think it is the taxpayer who should pay for charity, not them. there have been many studies over the years (No, I'm not gonna look them up for you, find them yourself) showing conservatives and republicans donate a lot more to charity and donate their time to volunteer work. The government was never intended to be a charity.

WARNING

WARNING:

Last night in the Area 1 / 002 parking lot Larry Yellen of FOX NEWS 32 was hiding in an unmarked van filming on the unauthorized side.

When he was questioned he stated that he heard that there was a "high profile DUI arrest" that was made.
PURE BULLSHIT.

If you see this guy in a police parking lot please lock him up for trespass

Hey Beale ! Think the feds know about
the dope dealing next to your ward office that led to the shootings of two cops during the raid...
your land deals at Concordia Park Little League field,Eden Green and Altgeld Gardens, 111 Ellis, 117th Doty and Ryerson Steel-North Pullman
the secret partnership with your Oak Brook based lackey security firm...
and your buddy reverned/politico's Harvey heroin connection?
Don't worry-they will.
Your ward has one of the highest crime rates in the city, and the highest foreclosure rates in the country. The only notable business is a strip club, and the schools suck. You ain't even a good alderlackey, let alone a fire police chairman.

We're gonna start a 9th ward blog with pictures and let everybody know what beale does and doesn't do.

Strength in numbers. We are a strong group. lets start a fund, $10 ea. and hire a private investigator to make sure these politicians are sqeaky clean like they say. If they mess with us as a group lets check on them and see what they are about, where their funds are going, etc. checks and balances

John Northen,

I know that you really want an outcome on this case, but be careful. The IG is not like IAD or IPRA. Their budget is not truly known and their reach far exceeds anything else by their ordinance. They may be capable of feats that IAD and IPRA couldn't do.

Keep a sharp eye out. Even though you may not be currently employed by the City, you probably receive a pension from them. IG's ordinance is not so specific about who they can target. An outspoken person like yourself would make a great trophy. And if they are in bed with the Fed...well you get the idea.

Keep sharp Sgt Northen. Keep sharp.

"Patrick's surgery requires release from active duty for now, but following the surgery, he could still be called back," said the source."

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Since when does the armed forces release a soldier (on active duty) to go home for a surgery?
Aren't they supposed to have the surgery at a armed forces hospital and rehab there as well.
My neighbor who is in the Air Force, on active duty, just had foot surgery at a armed fores hospital.

Somethings fishy about this on!

An x-ray followed by an MRI and CT Scan confirmed that Patrick Daley has no backbone and that his bloodstream consists mainly of 90 proof Russian vodka.

Military physicians were also shocked by the young Daley's ability to speak out of both sides of his mouth at the same time and were astounded how he occasionally flashed a serpent's tongue along with being constitutionally incapable of telling the truth.

Teachers and professors at De La Salle Institute and DePaul University were quite familiar with these traits having first observed them years ago in Patrick's father, mayor richard m daley.

I'm as pro police as they come but you can't club a passive resister. The guy was on all fours and no a threat when that dumb ass began teeing off on him. He raised his hands to block blows from the asp, which is a natural reaction. This cop just threw 17 years of police work down the drain, made some scumbag rich and will most likely Di some time. Please take a good use at the use of force model so you don't end up in the same boat, because you are obviously mistaken on this issue.

And he is the one putting security guards on Michigan Ave in 005 and also is trying to get them on Halsted in 022.Could be a conflict of interest.

Here is a news story. Someone look into who these private firms hire. Private security firms and the private company out there writing revenue generating tickets- I think they are called SERCO- are not police officers and are given the authority that police offiers are given. These are real scumbags given power and an incentive to ticket people. We as a society can not let profit driven private firms become the agents of law enforcement. However, this is already happening. There is no impartiality when the profit motive is introduced. Shortshank's and his minions' profit motive in privatizing as much as they can is straight up campaign contributions. I am sure all the contributions are layered, all collected through 'lobbyists'. These are the cleverest monkeys ever! I despise them all.

More fun and games from Jfled. Weeks ago he sends out a bullshit Pax 501 about open and transparent assignment processes. One of the first openings is the commanding officer assignment for the Sup's office. Lt's are asked to submit applications and resumes. Masterbator of the universe brings down six or seven on their own time for interviews. Promises everyone that they will hear something soon.

On voluntary unpaid furlough days, by choice! I guess cowards come in all shapes and sizes. True leaders in this Department.

4/15/2010 04:37:00 PM

It sounds like you are one of the "six or seven" idiots that went down and asked J-Fled if you could kiss his ring. Your feelings are hurt and you are lashing out here? You also have an ax to grind with the head of personnel, man up. Go talk to her.

Go give Masters a foot rub you slug.

if beale has a connection to any security firm, that explains his rent-a-cop push...

in such a high crime ward, he probably also has connections to all the gangs who assist him by influencing all his constituents to vote right...

AGAIN, building a voter base registration with an email network representing all the unions would be key in voting daley & all his alderthieves out of office...
