Recession Over

  • The Illinois unemployment rate inched up to 11.5 percent in March from 11.4 percent in February, maintaining its highest rate in 27 years.

On a brighter note, the report from the Illinois Department of Employment Security also showed that employers added jobs — 3,000 in March — for the third straight month.

The seeming dichotomy isn’t surprising because as jobs are created, people become more encouraged about their chance of getting a job and re-enter the work force, said IDES Director Maureen O’Donnell.

The latest numbers show that 148,500 fewer people were employed in Illinois in March than in March 2009.

  • The number of newly laid off people signing up for unemployment benefits climbed for the second straight week, and industrial production edged up just 0.1% in March, lagging expectations despite growth in the key manufacturing sector.

The Labor Department reported Thursday that first-time requests for jobless benefits rose 24,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 484,000, the highest level since late February. Economists were predicting claims would fall.

It marked the second week that claims took an unexpected leap. In the prior week, claims rose 18,000 to 460,000.

A government analyst, however, cautioned against reading too much into both weeks' figures, saying they were clouded by seasonal adjustment difficulties related to the Easter holiday, which falls on different weeks each year.

Well, at least they've stopped blaming Bush. Now it's the Easter Bunny's fault.

I am just putting the finishing touches on my bank owned home in Beverly that I bought for cash!

It will be sweet when the sherriff opens the door of my old house and finds me (and everything I can recycle) already gone.

I'll be saving at least $4000 a month, not to mention the stress of not having a mortgage. I think of as my personal stimulus plan. Cozumel, here I come!

Wow-wee. $4000+ savings with a $5000 after tax base salary. That's an extra $9000+ a month to spend at Top Notch and Rainbow Cone. Good job.

OT

The Mayor finds yet another way to f*ck Chicago's small businessman and discourage anyone else from coming here to do business!

(((((((((((((((((((((((((( * ))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Chicago Sign Permit Amnesty Program

Via the Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection

April 15 - October 15, 201

Does your business have a sign, canopy, awning, marquee or banner?

Is there a sign, canopy, awning, marquee or banner outside your business? If so, 2 types of permits may be required.

A Building Permit – to install
A Public Way Use Permit – if it hangs over the public way
If you don't have these permits, you could be fined! But during the amnesty, you will actually save money!

NO FEES - Apply for all the right permits during the Amnesty and have all your fees waived for the first year.

NO FINES - Avoid being fined in the future for not having the required permits.

It gets better! The City is now charging for a permit if your SECURITY camera hangs over the sidewalk or public way.

This is the SAME city that wants you to link your security cameras into their network, which will include giving them control over aiming them when the mood strikes them. Gotcha, and then gotcha again.

This is true! I paid $340k in 2006,with a 6.5% 30-year fixed. But when I factor property taxes and insurance, I am out about over 3.5K monthly.
