Shortage Hits Home

EH#1010814300

EH#1010814551

If you're near a PCAD computer, you can run these events and enjoy the full humorous content. For those not near a PCAD we'll explain the situation.

There was a call of a "Domestic Disturbance - Female screaming for help" in the 001 District at 2003 hours. At 2018 hours, a citizen calls 911 and the following entry is made:
  • per caller, looking for ETA of the police for a DD. He said, "Don't make me knock on J-Fed's door - he lives in the building."
First of all, it's hilarious that even civilians are calling J-Fled by his nickname. It seems so un-insignificant.

Second, it's kind of sad that 001 is either so shorthanded or so backlogged that they can't even get a car to the superintendent's building for a priority 1A job.

This happened last week. All cars are 99 nightly on the 3rd watch in addition to a couple of down cars. There weren't two 99 units available to send so it got put on the back burner. Sorry squad, I need a back up for a domestic...call me when you have another car available. That's what everyone should be doing rather than the typical "I'll let you know if I need help" cowboy crap!

Actually i would have loved it if they would've knocked on J-Fed's door. The guy is the supt of police but has never in his life handled a domestic. Sad.
He would have no idea what to do. I would pay to see that.

The best is that you're so insignificant that the incident was reported right to you, SCC.

Did the responding officers correct the caller in that J-Fed is now being referred to as J-Fled?

Masters.

I can see it now...

The caller scurries down the hallway to knock on J-Fled's door to complain about the poor response time.

As the caller's balled-up fist makes contact with the door, it slowly creaks partially open.

The caller chimes out: "J-Fled, are you in there?" several times, only to be met with guttural growls, groaning, panting and labored breathing in return.

Curiosity aroused, the caller slowly makes his way into the apartment, advancing towards the mysterious sounds heard from the hallway. Upon peering into a black light-lit bedroom the caller observes Mayor Daley and Masters dressed in cat outfits. They each wield a rolled-up "Chicago 2012" Olympic banner and are alternating spanking a prone, ball-gagged and hogtied J-Fled while he dons a Cowardly Lion costume that has the buttocks material cut out.

And for the record, 001 is neither shorthanded and rarely, if ever, backlogged. Same flavor in 018. Both districts have manpower up the ass compared to most districts. Foot posts, "Quality of Life Concerns" beats, bike units, APV units, etc., etc. Maybe a SCC visitor from 3rd watch in 001 & 018 can forward a copy of the sheets for any given day and you'll see what I'm talking about.

It also shows that he did'nt expect to be here so long as his OBAMA ship should have come in by now.Guess what that ship sunk too. J-FLED:

You'd best move up to Lincoln Park (Beat 1814) for your own tranquility and safety from the beast. I have a lovely two bedroom apartment with skyline, park and Lake Michigan views that is available for May 1st occupancy. A large balcony, hardwood floors, granite countertops, state-of-the art Internet and cable access, a jacuzzi fit for three, and much, much more. It even has a bidet that you so desperately need to tend to your personal hygiene. Animal friendly: two or three pussies? No problem.

Check www.craigslist.com. It's only $2,500/mo. Hell, for you, make that $4K. A gym for weights and cardio. You even get a space for your Hummer for $400 extra.

Welcome aboard, neighbor!

Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown may have scrapped her controversial "Jeans Day" fund-raisers, but the county's inspector general is confirming for the first time that he has launched a probe of the program.

The inspector general issued a report listing ongoing investigations, including an allegation of "violation of policy through inappropriate behavior and a review of the practice of collecting funds from employees for charity purposes unrelated to county operations."

001 is mostly 99 on nights...they are top heavy on days for obvious reasons...but 35th st. forgot that the south loop has grown tremendously...they run a skeleton crew on nights...lots of robberies....mostly mass transit related calls...ect....many,many tact officers on nights,(dont know why?),,,but overall...001 is basically staffed to handle the dayshift...oh also...they have no rapids.

whoever posted that we have manpower up the ass....we do ...ON DAYS....but nights have all 99 units..very few foot people that handle michigan ave...and state street related incidents..the atv guys are traffic..(not 001)...mass transit is in the same building...but they do absolutely NOTHING...001 is actually very busy at night...no rapids...they been asking for rapids...but downtown thinks its still 1980...and are not needed....just like they refuse to cut 008 in half..because they think its a retirement district...35th st is so out of touch when it comes to deploying manpower in the proper manner.

OT: Did anyone read this little nugget in the story of Dept. of Human Services J. Lobianco's resignation for DUI? It seems that any city employee who is on-call 24-7 can pay 200$ from their check and have a vehicle leased through the city. Isn't that why we get duty availability? We can be called out anytime? I might be stretching it but damn I want in on a deal like this. By the way SCC this guy would have never resigned if this story wasn't put on here 1st.

in my (southside) district, 10-99 cars are routine on mids....district is usually backlogged from about noon, around the clock, to about 3-4 am, give or take; cars on third watch get three-five jobs at a time, one assigned, the others stacked, so OEMC can say they were "assigned", even though the car might not get there for an hour. Backlogged jobs anywhere from 10 to 30-40, sometimes even the priority 1A jobs (domestics, shots fired, etc.,) sit for 10, 15, 30 minutes sometimes. Yeah, the dispatcher reads them out, but there's no one to go; probably a lot of other districts with the same thing...the manpower shortage=disgraceful....

If the caller would have pounded on J-Fled's door he would have bailed out the fire-escape.

I beg to differ. You NEED bikes and you NEED foot in those districts... otherwise, the whole dist will be down on bucketboys, pissers, pickpockets, fights over parking, cabbie complaints, not to mention...the shoplifters. You have to work in those dists to really understand it. I work in one of them, and NO WAY do I want to handle THAT nonsense all day! Besides, you miss the point....THOSE SPOTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MANNED. JUST BECAUSE A DIST HAS MORE PEOPLE DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY ARE FULLY STAFFED!!! Half the time the footposts are vacant AND the beats are all 99.

REALLLY?

You obviously have no clue and don't work in eiter district. I see the sheets everyday and nite. Mids in 018 is short 6-8 cars a nite and is backlogged on mids thurs nite- sunday nite. Come on over for savage sundays and you can find out for yourself. The biggest hip hop nite at all the clubs down there. The LT though sometimes a pain to deal with refuses to let cars out 99. At least she will go to bat for anyone of the p.o.'s on her shift.

Anyone can chase ghetto domestics and selling calls and claim to be busy and the real police. 018 just has a different types of calls for service and usually the calls involve mobs of people fighting.

Shit! look at monday night. 2 officers were hit by a car. One was dragged 1/2 block and then thrown out by a suburban yuppie who was down there buying dope in front of the clubs. The officer who was dragged into the vehicle by a guy hopped up on pcp while his partner did exactly what he was supposed to was thrown out 1/2 block later and run over while the car was doing 50+mph. Again on monday night. Thank god the officer (KR) is ok he must be made of steel and someone was looking out for him. Ran over completely by a Mercedes S500 and was admitted to Northwestern. Doing fine as of today though...well as good as you can after being run over.

Both these guys transfered in and have a long time "working police history" KR and TO were old 153 guys thru and thru and transfered here to do some work and slow down a bit. Even they have said 18 is busier than they ever thought. Shit those gusy have caught 3 robbers and 3 burglars in the past week and a half. All 6 different cases. Those who think 018 is a sleeper retiremenet district have obviously never worked here and are clueless. Robberies, bank robberies, and thefts all day long.

Robberies and thefts all night long, wilding every weekend in the summer, shootings, maylays and savagery evry night over on Weed St. It ain't ghetto busy, but its busy and in a RAP on most weekends all weekend long so get your facts straight.

Again it's not ghetto busy but its busy and they are just as short. Copies of the sheets were already sent to SCC with them showing 6-8 cars down a nite.

OT: If you filed a grievance during the limited Safe City deal because officers with less time on the job got assigned before senior officers, you got F***ed. ArbiTRAITOR Ed Benn sided with the city, again. The game was played and the city and department changed the rules mid-stream. Contract violations exhibited by the department occurred prior to Benn's ruling and prior to the new requirement. This is even more evident that Benn is not a true middle of the road arbitrator and that he is on the city's side (and maybe the payroll). Just like the new contract. Benn, why are you an influenced weakling? This was a seniority issue. A plain as day; black and white issue, officers with less seniority shouldn't have been allowed to work Operation Safe City. And, it shouldn't have been done is secrecy. SENIORITY, SENIORITY, SENIORITY.

I was talking to my kids today at dinner (we do that still) and I was explaining how you need the proper tool to the job properly. So a 2nd and 3rd grader can tell me you need a hammer to hit a nail, a pencil to do homework and a pot or pan to cook dinner.
Now after they are in bed I read this and I was wondering if my BASIC LIFE EDUCATIONAL SKILLS COULD BE USED BY THE POLICE DEPT.
For example: don't use a sledge hammer when all you need is a hammer, nails and a pry bar!
If we had a beat car on the beat, a rapid to help out and some foot men and park guys where they were needed. Couldn't we control this??? The officers would all know the area, the players and the conflicts.
How about "BACK TO THE BASICS" A BEAT CAR DOES IT'S JOB, A RAPID HELPS, A FOOT MAN IS CONTINUED PRESENCE AND THE PARKS ARE COVERED.
MANPOWER IS THE ANSWER!

We are next as soon as daley-madigan can pull it off.

"That kind of intransigence -- an unwillingness to save money the state is literally giving away -- is why we're intrigued by a bill Quinn floated Tuesday to work around the Legislature. Though the particulars are in flux, Quinn's "Emergency Budget Act" would give him new powers for one year to make some unilateral budget decisions, with an eye toward finding an additional $400 million in budget cuts, according to Quinn's budget director.

The bill would, for example, let Quinn override the law that gives retired state employees free health care -- rather than wait for legislators to reverse the law. It also would let him roll back some entitlement programs if revenue falls short. Options include increasing co-pays or reducing benefits."

We have total 50 P.O.'s for third watch. At least 16 are RDO any given day. Every day there is one training or another, there are two on Shortshank's house, 2 at City Hall. Then, of course, some have the nerve (sarcasm) to take time due. Add a few dog asses to the mix and that is why calls are late getting answered. By the way, not ONE Rapid Response car.

Robberies and thefts all night long, wilding every weekend in the summer, shootings, maylays and savagery evry night over on Weed St. It ain't ghetto busy, but its busy and in a RAP on most weekends all weekend long so get your facts straight.

----------

I never begrudge coppers who work in 018 or 019 or 020 or anywhere in this city. Savages are everywhere and police are needed everywhere in this city. These districts deserve even more police than the ghetto slaughterhouse districts because their citizens value the law and deserve its protection. The same cannot be said for the south and west siders.

But, coppers cannot have it both ways. They can't work in an easy district with hot broads to scope out and then tell other coppers that its "almost" the same as working in the ghetto or its "busy" even if its not ghetto busy.

Working in 018 or 019 or 020 is a completely different job than working in 015 or 011 or 007 or 004 or 006 or 005 or 008 or 009. Sometimes things get dangerous and messy on the north side, but things are always always always dangerous and messy on the south side.

We are one police department, but we don't all have the same job. Coppers working in 018 and coppers working on the south and west sides are really working on two different planets in two different universes in two different dimensions. The job is so different that it shouldn't even be compared.

I really don't know where 1st watch would be if the entertainment detail wasn't making the world safer with all those agg. panhandler arrests...downing the entire twenty sector (except the precious housing cars) so the entertainment cars can exist wouldn't be a bad thing if ALL the entertainment detail shared the workload...6-8 cars downed each night...not quite. Don't forget the housing special employment folks assigned to cabrini and the row houses. 1st watch in 018 could be manned 100% strength with the folks siphoned off for the entertainment detail contingent -- make sure to send SCC the A&As for your entertainment detail brethren.

Lt. Grabass will host an after-hours discussion and debate on this topic at Stanley's tonite at 0401 hrs. That will give you plenty of time to finish your tour and show up for the free bowls of bullshit. You are VERY hungry.

Did you read the order about going to the 4-2 work schedule that the F.O.P. signed off on? Even though it is spelled out in the contract, that we are still using. The order stated that the changing of day off groups will be assigned by the watch commander. Not seniority, as per contract! So does that supercede the contract? I never did get a straight answer from anyone on that.

Wrong.

Seniority only counts when a Day Off Group must be changed to balance the groups in the middle of the year. All groups may be shuffled for the beginning of the year and we do not bid on day off groups. Officers are usually given consideration for continuity but this is a courtesy, not by contract.

What "Minor/Insignificant Shit" are you talking about?

Parkway violations?
Sidewalk/Driveway encroachment violations?

The Municipal code is what it is.
You're not Legally allowed to cherry pick what parts of the ILCS you want to enforce..same goes for the City Codes.

Tell your neighbors to park right the next time.

And if you want to complain about me and my co-workers...that is your right.

But I've seen Parked cars with Police Issued Parkers for the same violation in less than the Required 24 hour time. As well as Police Issued tickets for a parked car with TN plates getting ticketed several times for Rear/Front Plate and Window Tint.
I've seen CPD tickets for "Outside of Metered Space" when there were no Lines on the Street showing where the metered space was, and others for Parking Under a CTA Bridge when there were no posted restriction signs.

Yeah, sure...Revenue is the only department with mouth breathers in it.

Your the retard wirkong the ghetto. Quit crying and hating on the ones who are smart enough not to work where their whole 9hrs is wasted. Get some time on the job and bid out before you want to bash other officers. You should be more worried about the homefront than chasing armed uselss pieces of shit around the ghetto for no reason at all.

What so you can brag to all the chicks at the bar you are the westside or south side police. You are a stroke. Keep chasing those one baggers and flaming other working coppurs. No wonder you are still stuck in the ghetto and not on any team, you are only out for you.

And get you facts straight. SOS has been disbanded for 3 yrs genius Nov of 07. And the kid with 8+ years on was in the unit for 6 of his 8+ years..... SWAT wasn't disbanded. I've known him for 7+ of those 8+ since he was in 025 and will tell you he's not an ego drivin maniac. He would give anyone the shirt off his back so you can kiss his ass not his ring.

If you are gonna talk trash at least have you facts straight. Oh yea nad how many of those theives are in prison? Oh thats right all their cases were tossed because the "victims" were caught lying and making stuff up and the prosecuters had no evidence whatsoever.

Maybe when you get off your probation you can get out of the ghetto asshat.

These last few posts are what is entirely wrong about the CPD these days. It's ass backwards and obviously starts from the blue shirts and goes up.

Here we have guys ragging on other officers in different areas of the city. Most of these officers in the slower districts have put their time in already where these officers are chasing the ghetto fabulous and claiming they are shorthanded. Simple solution. Don't chase! and arrive with backup.

The city has nice parts still and is one of the cleanest, well kept big cities in the world. The areas that are left should have a madhouse of police to keep the shitbirds out. Our homeland and the downtown areas should be manned to the tilt.

Forget the ghetto. They should be bare bones. The contribute nothing. They have no respect for the police or the city. The sue at every chance and jam up officers at a whim. I have no odea why retrds are still chasing dope and thinking they are helping out. There's 50more bags and 50 more guns for every one you take. Quuit crying about manpower cuz it ain't coming. The ones who are crying are theones who are out for themselves as evident by their actions. Get with the tmes and do 2% of teh work you did last year.

Protect the homefront and whats left. SCREW THE GHETTO LET IT BURN! LET THEM KILL EACH OTHER OFF AT A RECORD PACE!

Right on. So -- in THE unit for 6 out of his 8+ years on the job -- another clout prodigy? No way. He did it all the right way. And how did he (and you) make the move to THE unit and then 018? Phone call? Nope, couldn't be the case here because he (and you) earned it the right way. Otherwise you guyz obviously wouldn't be where you are today.

How many years of PAR forms did it take for you to finally make a successful transfer bid to 018? And how many more years in 018 did it take to make the entertainment venue team?

Too bad that clouted pride kicked in -- the pride that "the ones who are smart enough not to work where their whole 9hrs is wasted" have. It isn't too bad the City is getting its money's worth with the full 9 hours you put in every single day you show up to do battle on Weed St. No more free lunches or quick personals for you -- that makes you a valuable ally of King Dick the Two.

It's hard for you to believe there are PLENTY of officers who work just as hard as you do but don't have the benefit of clouted DNA.

It's equally hard for some of us to admit we got a little help along the way to get where we are.

Be thankful for what you have and stay safe.

Wow what a bunch of whining old ladies on this department. The whole definition of clout is misconstrued daily on this blog. Its should just be called jealousy.

If you work for someone for a certain period of time and do good work and that someone gets lateraled or transfered it would only be fair that the guy that busted his ass for the past time working would be one of the guys on the list that this Sgt would take. This is not clout.

If you work for a boss at one time and he now has an openening on his team and he offers it to you....it's not clout.

It's called opening your own doors. Those with no doors to open should blame themselves and look in the mirror. There are 25 different districts with 3 watches. Take your resume and you activity and bring them to a boss and tell them you want to work for them. If your actions speak as loud as your words it's usually not a problem. The problem is noone has the stones to actually put forth an effort and the ones bitching have nothing to show except more bitching.

If you have to ask you don't belong. Along with our professional relationship, it's the best kept secret in Patrol.

The entertainment detail was the creation of SOS (son of supervisor) Lt. Grabass. As of the last transfer order he's now officially at A3 SVU. Give him a call on Monday for the history. Pink handcuffs are optional.
