- per caller, looking for ETA of the police for a DD. He said, "Don't make me knock on J-Fed's door - he lives in the building."
First of all, it's hilarious that even civilians are calling J-Fled by his nickname. It seems so un-insignificant.
Second, it's kind of sad that 001 is either so shorthanded or so backlogged that they can't even get a car to the superintendent's building for a priority 1A job.

This happened last week. All cars are 99 nightly on the 3rd watch in addition to a couple of down cars. There weren't two 99 units available to send so it got put on the back burner. Sorry squad, I need a back up for a domestic...call me when you have another car available. That's what everyone should be doing rather than the typical "I'll let you know if I need help" cowboy crap!
Actually i would have loved it if they would've knocked on J-Fed's door. The guy is the supt of police but has never in his life handled a domestic. Sad.
He would have no idea what to do. I would pay to see that.

001 is mostly 99 on nights...they are top heavy on days for obvious reasons...but 35th st. forgot that the south loop has grown tremendously...they run a skeleton crew on nights...lots of robberies....mostly mass transit related calls...ect....many,many tact officers on nights,(dont know why?),,,but overall...001 is basically staffed to handle the dayshift...oh also...they have no rapids.
whoever posted that we have manpower up the ass....we do ...ON DAYS....but nights have all 99 units..very few foot people that handle michigan ave...and state street related incidents..the atv guys are traffic..(not 001)...mass transit is in the same building...but they do absolutely NOTHING...001 is actually very busy at night...no rapids...they been asking for rapids...but downtown thinks its still 1980...and are not needed....just like they refuse to cut 008 in half..because they think its a retirement district...35th st is so out of touch when it comes to deploying manpower in the proper manner.

It seems that any city employee who is on-call 24-7 can pay 200$ from their check and have a vehicle leased through the city. Isn't that why we get duty availability? We can be called out anytime? Not only should you wait for two cars to be available at all times, but both cars should remain down on the job till complete. You never know who or when the offender may show back up on the scene. in my (southside) district, 10-99 cars are routine on mids....district is usually backlogged from about noon, around the clock, to about 3-4 am, give or take; cars on third watch get three-five jobs at a time, one assigned, the others stacked, so OEMC can say they were "assigned", even though the car might not get there for an hour. Backlogged jobs anywhere from 10 to 30-40, sometimes even the priority 1A jobs (domestics, shots fired, etc.,) sit for 10, 15, 30 minutes sometimes. Yeah, the dispatcher reads them out, but there's no one to go; probably a lot of other districts with the same thing...the manpower shortage=disgraceful....
If the caller would have pounded on J-Fled's door he would have bailed out the fire-escape.
With two or three of his body guards, down to the garage to his armored SUV guarded by another sergeant's pay security specialist and flees to an undesclosed location.

get used to working 99 if you want time due---- suburbs all work 99-- if you pull up on scene and it looks like kung foo fighting just get on the air and tell dispatcher what is happening and wait for back-up.... then we get out in numbers and deal with the situation... hopefully by that time all the shitbirds will be on the run and we can code the job.....

I beg to differ. You NEED bikes and you NEED foot in those districts... otherwise, the whole dist will be down on bucketboys, pissers, pickpockets, fights over parking, cabbie complaints, not to mention...the shoplifters. You have to work in those dists to really understand it. I work in one of them, and NO WAY do I want to handle THAT nonsense all day! You obviously have no clue and don't work in eiter district. I see the sheets everyday and nite. Mids in 018 is short 6-8 cars a nite and is backlogged on mids thurs nite- sunday nite. At least she will go to bat for anyone of the p.o.'s on her shift.
Anyone can chase ghetto domestics and selling calls and claim to be busy and the real police. 018 just has a different types of calls for service and usually the calls involve mobs of people fighting.
Shit! look at monday night. 2 officers were hit by a car. One was dragged 1/2 block and then thrown out by a suburban yuppie who was down there buying dope in front of the clubs. The officer who was dragged into the vehicle by a guy hopped up on pcp while his partner did exactly what he was supposed to was thrown out 1/2 block later and run over while the car was doing 50+mph. Again on monday night. Thank god the officer (KR) is ok he must be made of steel and someone was looking out for him. Ran over completely by a Mercedes S500 and was admitted to Northwestern. Doing fine as of today though...well as good as you can after being run over.
Both these guys transfered in and have a long time "working police history" KR and TO were old 153 guys thru and thru and transfered here to do some work and slow down a bit. Even they have said 18 is busier than they ever thought. Shit those gusy have caught 3 robbers and 3 burglars in the past week and a half. All 6 different cases. I was talking to my kids today at dinner (we do that still) and I was explaining how you need the proper tool to the job properly. So a 2nd and 3rd grader can tell me you need a hammer to hit a nail, a pencil to do homework and a pot or pan to cook dinner.

We have total 50 P.O.'s for third watch. At least 16 are RDO any given day. Every day there is one training or another, there are two on Shortshank's house, 2 at City Hall. Then, of course, some have the nerve (sarcasm) to take time due. Add a few dog asses to the mix and that is why calls are late getting answered. By the way, not ONE Rapid Response car.

I never begrudge coppers who work in 018 or 019 or 020 or anywhere in this city. Savages are everywhere and police are needed everywhere in this city. These districts deserve even more police than the ghetto slaughterhouse districts because their citizens value the law and deserve its protection. The same cannot be said for the south and west siders.
But, coppers cannot have it both ways. They can't work in an easy district with hot broads to scope out and then tell other coppers that its "almost" the same as working in the ghetto or its "busy" even if its not ghetto busy.
Working in 018 or 019 or 020 is a completely different job than working in 015 or 011 or 007 or 004 or 006 or 005 or 008 or 009. Sometimes things get dangerous and messy on the north side, but things are always always always dangerous and messy on the south side.
We are one police department, but we don't all have the same job. Coppers working in 018 and coppers working on the south and west sides are really working on two different planets in two different universes in two different dimensions. The job is so different that it shouldn't even be compared.

ArbiTRAITOR Ed Benn sided with the city, again. The game was played and the city and department changed the rules mid-stream. Contract violations exhibited by the department occurred prior to Benn's ruling and prior to the new requirement. This is even more evident that Benn is not a true middle of the road arbitrator and that he is on the city's side (and maybe the payroll). Just like the new contract. Benn, why are you an influenced weakling? This was a seniority issue. A plain as day; black and white issue, officers with less seniority shouldn't have been allowed to work Operation Safe City. Did you read the order about going to the 4-2 work schedule that the F.O.P. signed off on? Even though it is spelled out in the contract, that we are still using. The order stated that the changing of day off groups will be assigned by the watch commander. Not seniority, as per contract! So does that supercede the contract? I never did get a straight answer from anyone on that.
The LT though sometimes a pain to deal with refuses to let cars out 99. At least she will go to bat for anyone of the p.o.'s on her shift.
Why did you only say "her" shift? What about all the times she's gone after my watch with a bat?

Just make up anything! Who said it had to match the computer?! We used to make stuff up all the time that would make J-FLED and Daley proud, when I used to work in 014! Nobody reads the stupid paper anyways! We used to put crazy stuff on the humper while working 1455 and nobody said shit to us and that was over a 10 year span starting in the mid 1990's!

Wrong.
Seniority only counts when a Day Off Group must be changed to balance the groups in the middle of the year. All groups may be shuffled for the beginning of the year and we do not bid on day off groups. Officers are usually given consideration for continuity but this is a courtesy, not by contract.

But I've seen Parked cars with Police Issued Parkers for the same violation in less than the Required 24 hour time. As well as Police Issued tickets for a parked car with TN plates getting ticketed several times for Rear/Front Plate and Window Tint.
I've seen CPD tickets for "Outside of Metered Space" when there were no Lines on the Street showing where the metered space was, and others for Parking Under a CTA Bridge when there were no posted restriction signs.
Yeah, sure...Revenue is the only department with mouth breathers in it.

These last few posts are what is entirely wrong about the CPD these days. It's ass backwards and obviously starts from the blue shirts and goes up.

Right on. So -- in THE unit for 6 out of his 8+ years on the job -- another clout prodigy? No way. He did it all the right way. And how did he (and you) make the move to THE unit and then 018? If you work for someone for a certain period of time and do good work and that someone gets lateraled or transfered it would only be fair that the guy that busted his ass for the past time working would be one of the guys on the list that this Sgt would take. This is not clout.
If you work for a boss at one time and he now has an openening on his team and he offers it to you....it's not clout.
It's called opening your own doors. Those with no doors to open should blame themselves and look in the mirror. There are 25 different districts with 3 watches. Take your resume and you activity and bring them to a boss and tell them you want to work for them. If your actions speak as loud as your words it's usually not a problem.
