Area 2 is Falling Down
Shaved had this up earlier:
Another lovely bit of city building. Of course, Area 2 is quite a bit older than 018 or HQ or any of the other collapsing disasters currently in service.
Does anyone know if there are offices are located above this pillar? Because you guys and gals might want to make sure to (A) download these pictures and (B) make sure all your insurance paperwork and such is updated.

The city and dept just finished pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into revamping the exterior of area 2. I guess the mayor Daley clout connected contractor that did the work missed that post. I'm sure the contractor will be refunding all the money he over charged the city once he realizes his work was shoddy and inferior.
Those offices used to belong to Youth and the A/2 Chief of Youth. Hopefully the snack machines are still around the corner and out of harms way.
Gimme my duct tape. I'll fix that up just like new.
I remember working there in the early 90's and had a conversation with an old timer. He told me about a bunch of the "inside" people that had worked there for a while coming down with all sorts of rare cancers. He said that they tried to get OSHA to come in and investigate but that the city wouldn't allow it. They ended up filing a federal lawsuit and the city as usual were dragging there feet. One by one all those involved in the lawsuit died so the lawsuit was quietly dismissed. He told me how the station had been built on top of a toxic waste dump and that caused the high rate of those rare cancers. This thread reminded me of that conversation. It actually seems pretty believable after seeing how the old 006th Dist was contaminated by the leaky underground gas tank...
Does this ring a bell with anyone? Can this be confirmed?
locker rooms are behind the block glass windows. . . . specialized unit may have the set of windows (SCC, not saying which unit cuz they mite have enemies out there. they actually do do work and many people/criminals pass under those windows on their way to court every morning at branch 38 or 35).
Youse gots a problems wit da cements we poured? Takes it up wit da boss. Da mare says fuggedaboutit!
.....the main thing in the building is the mold buildup in the upstairs ceiling. Respiratory illness have been reported, but nothing can be proved.
Interesting. There are buildings in Europe that have been there for centuries, but the City can't find a builder who can make one last for more than four or five year?
Maybe they can move CPT Jones out there and he can sit under the pillar. He moves about as fast as concrete, he has the same personality as concrete, and then if he sits there, he will finally be doing something productive for the day, kinda like the concrete.
The condidtion of the building is a reflection of many who are hired for CPD.
Who does the concrete for the city?
I worked in the old 006th Dist at 85th & Green when the gas fumes started leaking up through the vents in the early 1990's. We were told at the beginning of 3rd watch to be ready to evacuate the building, grabbing all of our stuff and moving to Area 2.
When we came in for checkoff, there were a bunch of fans and No Smoking signs all around the building. No Kidding !!
About 2 years later, the city put a $500,000 ventilation system in the ground around the building. 18 months later, the new 006th Dist opened at 79th and Halsted.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
That made my day.
Didn't a car hit that pole about 8 years ago?
What do you expect from daley's friends ? He pays them to build things, they don't have to build them to last !!!! When they fall down he'll just spend more of our money to build another shit structure.

Take the even more useless, sorry excuse for a Commander with him, Commander Ball. Why is it that everyone his secretary/personal driver (oh no, he drives her remember)/personal cook/personal errand runner/personal partner 24 hours a day 7 days a week,RP dislikes, they get moved? Who really runs the 5th District? Thats what the department get for promoting people like him. He was worthless in Area 1 and he is worthless as a Commander. He spends more time kissing the Area 2 Deputy Chief (another worthless hack) and Adlermen ass than he does running our District!

Brilliant idea. Many more block head supervisors can sit with him. We elect the lt valdez-snake.
my all time favorite about area 2 is the "air scrubbers" filtration system.
A/2 can't have fresh air windows put in because they would defeat the locked in air conditioning units.
These are the same units that are reportedly used by piegons as a nesting area on the roof. OSHA was not allowed to inspect.
Ask the sgts. who have allergy problems on the 2nd floor.
The air scrubbers do not function properly and are a health hazzard.
Yes, I can testify about the 006th District. We had more cancer infected officers (all ranks) along with rare medical disorders popping up everywhere. We also called OSHA, nothing became of that. There were some nights we were so over come by the smell, that we were vomiting. I can name at least ten people with some form of cancer just on one watch.
I worked in 006 in the early 80's when we had to stack milk crates in our lockers so when the basement flooded, rain or shine, our property stayed dry. I really felt bad for those guys that lived down there.
The furnace malfunctioned in the old 20th District station about 12-13 years ago.
CFD was called and they came in with the CO meter and ordered the evacuation and closure. CO levels were 330ppm, anything over 30ppm is considered dangerous.
It only took three days to fix the furnace, it was a weekend, nobody wanted to spend the overtime.
All arrestees went elsewhere. All personnel wore jackets inside, it was the dead of winter and there was no heat.
Area 2 The Dumps of all Dumps. Inside is worse..
The 10th dist. looks like it's in better shape and I don't think there's a cancer epidemic. Why don't all of you just go on over and move in while it's empty. Say you got an order to do so. It's not anyone really gives a shit anymore or will look into it as long as folks are getting locked up.
Same with Area One.....Remodeled the place approximately 5 years ago, but did nothing with the ventilation system. Now they have decided to fix the ventilation system in the summer which means they cant turn on the air conditioning. Also heard its going to cost double the price to fix now then it would of when they remodeled. They put three portable air conditioners on the floor. They work well....Yesterday was the first day in the high 80's and I heard it was 85 degrees in their office with 50% humidity. The Detectives work with all the lights off in the office to keep the heat down. Enjoy the extra perk as a Detective...Your own sauna. LOL
Take a look at the area 1 parking lot. Be careful cause you might fall into the 60 plus huge deep pot holes and never be seen again!
Took the advice giving here on SCC the other day and went out to the pillar of concrete to have my arrest report approved.
Much faster than waiting for CPT Jones, and you know what? Much more of a personality on the pillar than with the good ol' Captain. All in all, in was a much more simple move, faster, and when my guy got in the lockup there was still a line waiting by the WC's door for the lowly PO's to come in, genuflect and kiss the ring.
Thanks for the great tip SCC!
Lunch on me next time we meet!
Ditto to 1718 S. State. It's falling apart and it was built on a junk yard. Since the opening 11 years ago, 3 Sgt.'s have died from cancer. Odd???? They all worked inside!!
