TRU Counting Buildings?

Is this true? We had a comment or three over the past day that said TRU is being pulled out of Districts and sent to check on abandoned buildings across the city? Is this really an efficient use of manpower?

Isn't there a District Abandoned Building officer assigned to do this? Aren't there Area-wide "Troubled Building Teams" out there rousting squatters, dope dealers, prostitutes and generating all sorts of business for connected Board-Up companies?

Or has the foreclosure crisis completely inundated the District/Area teams to the point where the Department can't do the job?

And does this data collection contribute to the "Indoor/Outdoor" number crunching?

I can confirm that the past two weekends TRU has been sent to check on multiple abandon buildings throughout the city and the info that they are to gather is whether or not they are secure and if they aren't why aren't they ..i.e missing door, broken windows, missing board up etc. etc. These buildings appear to all be owned by the city. Great use of manpower.

Whatever keeps these Hair Gels away from locking up people for loose cigarettes, DOPW, gambling and single bags of weed is alright by me. Meaningless bullshit arrests to boost numbers and make undeserving supervisors look good while impressionable dummies stick their necks out for the "glory" and empty promises. Let's not forget the mandated vehicle impounds for the all-mighty revenue generation. Tell me I'm wrong, kids.

Counting abandoned buildings MIGHT actually be productive IF it leads to more of these properties being torn down, thus resulting in less places for the dregs of society to hang out, use dope, etc, etc.

And if this proves true, an unintended consequence may be that this may finally knock some sense into a few gel-encrusted heads that TRU really isn't an "elite" unit after all...you guys are now the equivalent of bean counters. I foresee a lot of disgruntled slick sleeves in the near future.

And while on the topic of TRU...

Seems some of these hard chargers have a hard time figuring out other things as well: should you folks in TRU not find your way out South soon, the waitresses at Bourbon Street will always relish the fond memories of what lousy tippers you cheap bastards are. Six Hair Gels with a (maybe) collective 25 years on-the-job, getting half off their dinner and leaving 10 dollars for a tip. Disgraceful.

Plus, families with children don't want to hear your profanity-laden "war stories" (another joke in-and-of-itself) while having what should have been a nice, relaxing dinner.

Shit, even counting abandoned buildings may be too good for some of you goofs.

TRU DAT!!!!

theyll have no problem counting buildings as long as the number of buildings to be counted doesnt exceed the amount of bags of weed they lock people up for...TWO

needs to be said again: TRU = Totally Retarded Unit

TRU needs to be sent to Tennessee because they know alot about sandbagging

IF THIS IS TRUE THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FIGHTING CRIME AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH GENERATING MONEY FOR THE CITY. VACANT/ABANDONED BUILDINGS HAVE TO BE REGISTERED WITH THE CITY EVERY SIX MONTHS AT A COST OF $250.00.
ITS ALL ABOUT THE REVENUE.

This wouldn't be a bad idea if the TRU guys would sweep the houses and then the city would board them up right after. But if they are only going through them and then a week later they are boarded up it's a waste of time.

The city should then go after the building owner and take the property if it's not being taken care of.

Maybe if TRU wasn't sent out to count buildings, one of their cars may have stopped the car with the three killers of PO Wortham before they shot and killed him.

Hey mayor dipshit, what the F does your building department do other than take bribes?

DONT ASK 2 MANY QUESTIONS.

THE ABANDONED BUILDING OFFICER SPOT
IS A JUICE SPOT W/ NO SUPERVISION.

I KNOW OF MULTIPLE OFFICERS IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS THAT HAVE APPROACHED DIFFERENT CAPS BUILDING OFFICERS AND ACTED LIKE THEY WERE DOING A FAVOR TAKING CARE OF ABANDONED BUILDINGS.

MANY OF THEM ARE HIDDEN AT HEADQUARTERS AND ARE ALLOWED TO SWITCH WATCHES. THEY DO NOT WEAR UNIFORMS AND DO NOT SIGN OUT RADIOS OR PDTS.

REMEMBER THAT BUILDING INSPECTOR ACTUALLY RIGHT TICKETS!!!

MANY OF THE HOUSING OFFICERS HAVE A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF CONSTRUCTION.

WHEN U HAVE NO BACK UP OR R DENIED TIME OFF JUST ASK UR SELF
WHAT SPOT COULD I GET A CAR, TIME OFF, NO UNIFORM, NO BOSS, DRIVE AROUND THE WHOLE CITY, NO STATS REQUIRED, ANY TIME VACATION.

SAD THING IS THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHECK THESE BUILDING THEMSELVES BUT THEY THINK THEY R DESK DOLLIES AND CANT FIND THEIR BULLET PROOF VEST.

Count abandoned buildings? Hell, all Daley has to do is check the Democrat voter's registration addresses. They are all listed right there.

OH Brother!

Why didn't they listen to the suggestion when it was first made??!?

If they want to get a real picture of abandoned buildings, have those "officers" in the CAPS office put on their walking shows. Then go along with Com Ed Meter Readers who probably already know which buildings are abandoned. They do their routes in an organized way and they get the city gets the info it wants.

The suggestion came from someone who works a district on the street so it was ignored. Now watch somebody run into Dugan's office with a brilliant idea.

Is it coincidental that this happens only days after Daley announced a new computer program will help keep track of abandoned building owned by the city. So TRU is the data gatherers? Unbelieveable.

There is so many abandon houses throughout the city, I welcome it.

These kids now-a-days call these abandon houses "Trap Houses" Storing their dope and guns in them. Also, they host parties in them.

A lot of decent arrest might come of this. If not at least get some dope and guns off the streets.

This is from an excerpt from the Tribune: Hours after an off-duty Chicago police officer was gunned down during an attempted robbery, Daley was asked how effective the law has really been.

He picked up a gun from a table full of weapons seized by Chicago Police and said, “If I put this up your butt, you’ll find out how effective it is. [Confiscating] this gun saved many lives. It could save your life.”

The building inspectors don't write the tickets for vacant, unsecured properties. The cops do, so get your story straight. The court call for these buildings is the first Friday of every month at 400 W. Superior. And yes, some cops are better than others at getting the job done right. You obviously don't know what a headache these tickets are to write so give the guys a break already.

Great use of manpower, indeed. How about when the fire department had to drive around in their $450,000 fire engines to count the number of potholes? The city that works.

Just a word of caution to the TRU guys checking out city owned properties. Be very careful near these buildings during inclement weather. If one isn't careful they might fall and severely injure themselves on a city owned property.

Oh wait nevermind, that is already happening and the city is denying any and all culpability. Meanwhile the Medical section is denying surgery on the copper after he tore a couple of tendons in his arm.

I get the feeling that the copper involved has secured legal counsel and is waiting to unleash a nice lawsuit.

Disbanding SOS was a great disservice to this Department and city. All the District personnel hated them, but the shitheads FEARED them! That fear is missing out there right now and things are getting bad.

This City has gotten the police force it wanted. There are very few coppers challenging them and no one backing up those that do!

'We've got your back" my ass! When Dugan pays the salary of the first cop who goes into a no pay status while awaiting his (corrupt) Police Board hearing for 6, 9, 12, 15 months, then I'll believe they have my back! Until then, I'll continue to watch shit get worse and the Mayor shed his alligator tears and blame everything but the real causes of our problems!
