Only on the South Side
An off-duty police officer was sitting on his porch with his wife on South Leavett and West 90th when they saw a 30-year-old man break into a car. When the officer attempted to make an arrest, a short scuffle happened.
The man allegedly threatened the officer, saying, ''I know where you live now and I'll come back and kill you.'' The suspect also threatened to injure the officer's wife.
The suspect managed to break free and began running toward nearby woods, shedding clothing in the meantime. A police sergeant spotted the suspect at South Western and West 90th, and the man was apprehended.
The suspect is facing charges of burglary and aggravated assault to a peace officer, the Morgan Park district desk sergeant said.
As police were making the arrest at 1:13 a.m., a drunken motorist driving a 2004 Ford Escape plowed into a police car at the scene. The force of the impact caused that car to hit another squad car head-on, injuring a police sergeant.
Among his charges, Paul Daniels, 26, of South Holland, was cited with two counts of driving under the influence. As police responded to that crash, a male driver told police his male passenger had been shot at South Western Avenue and West 79th Street.

I sincerely hope that this asshole was also charged with Intimidation for making those threats to the PO and his wife. But then again, this is Cook County, so nothing suprises me anymore.
90th and Leavitt? I believe Alderman Rugai is only one block east of there. Not exactly a run down hood. Not many safe places left in this town.
It's like ghetto pinball. One dangerous fool after another colliding. Nice glimpse into the cesspool that has become Chicago.
---not a cop
a lot of burglaries in that area. the thugs cut through the dan ryan woods, commit their burlgaries, then go back home through the woods. beats 2221 and 2221a are never in that area. most cops dont know their way around that area (88th-95th st///western to longwood or pleasant. also beat 2221 goes east to about racine or so. so guess where all the calls are at?
Another 3 peat. Keep um coming
isnt that a nice hood to live in?
sitting on his porch with his wife on South Leavett ....
it's spelled "Leavitt" ...
He was off his psychotropic meds and will explain in court he ran into the woods to meet up with a prescription knome...not guilty...next!
Dashboard video from a January traffic stop in Hamilton, Montana, that ended in gunfire.
A jury ruled on April 13, 2010 that Hamilton Police Officer Ross Jessop was justified in shooting Raymond Thane Davis.

It could happen on the north side too.
Gosh, if you aren't safe sitting on your porch in Beverly....there's no hope.
unless he makes an admission, no charges.
Guns n' Hoeziz Say:
ain' t it great bein a chicago resident? This crap IS only the beginning.... Maybe a few thousand more Cops should be hired and The Chicago Aarmageddon could be held off for a few more years ??? Iraq and Afghanistan are safer than it is here..
Geez! Reminds me of something that would be out of a Monty Python/Bennie Hill skit.
Any details on the 79th & Western shooting? That's my kids' school.
LIFT THE RESIDENCY!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but yes. Yes it is a run down hood. Classic case of folks living there, looking at their once pleasant neighborhood through emotional, rose-tinted glasses. Beverly and Mt. Greenwood were lost several years ago. Sorry!
This is getting way to common.........
WELL, when I sit on my porch in the Edison Park area I usually do it with a gun. No matter what neighborhood you need a gun to protect yourself from democratic voters who tend to wander.
LMAO! Only in Chicago can goofy shit like this occur! This stuff should be in the NATIONAL news so everyone knows what coppers deal with ON A DAILY BASIS!

a few thousand feet of barbed wire, say, 2 feet above ground level, should slow down that roll......
protect the perimeter.
"It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under."
This is why I only sit in the back yard and that's only occasionally. If I want to go out, I usually leave the city.
Residency should have been lifted 20yrs ago.. You can thank all of the old timers for not putting pressure on the city to lift it.
Actually, it is a beautiful neigborhood. Not many other family oriented places like it left.. if house going for over 500 grand are just rose tinted glasses then I guess I'll leave mine on. One of the reasons it is so nice a place to live in still is because the off-duties don't just look away. Big thanks to that off duty po.
a bit later four get lit up on 90 and Marshfield and two walk into roseland from being shot in racine courts.....it's the wild west out there!
Coppers are a paranoid bunch, wonder why?
After years of seeing what really happens to the average Joe, you don't want to end up like him.
Get it?
Hurry back Sarge--We Miss you
Soooo... The guy ran into the woods, to get in touch with nature. Maybe Like in an Avatar kind of way.

Awwwww.......what's a matter? Tired of driving out to the burbs for your supply of hail gel?

about racine or so??? this is easy when you answer your own questions.
Buy the new Ruger LCP, carry it all the time, and use it if necessary. If you're taking out the trash, moving the car, walking the dog, bullshitting with the neighbor across the fence, cleaning out the garage. Always be able to bring the rain.
Nice Job 022 and other PO's

I Live in Edison Park- Bring it on I'm your neighbor. I wander though out that area any time of day or night its safe and I love it. I don't know what your trying to say. But you sound like a real asshole.

Maybe 'cause the old timers actually had families; wives, kids in school, kids had friends too - not like the new guys who live 3 deep in Lincoln Park hip-dude apartments and drive all the too-cool cars .... just a thought
I live in 022. It's a great neighborhood. When we were younger, I used to sit on the front porch with a beer and watch the sunset when I could. Now, I sit on the front porch with a coke and my .38 S&W in a fanny pack with 2 quick loaders. I figure if I end up shooting some POS, I'm better offwith a coke than a beer. I'd do the same in 016 today. The bad guys get around. Having worked 015 and 011, I'll take Beverly any day. If you can afford to live in a $400,000 house and can behave like a human, glad to have you for a neighbor. When I retire in 5 years, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather live.
