Memorial Day

Especially with having lost an officer who served not only this city, but our country. Remember our veterans, past present and future.

Always grateful. Always. We are so lucky to live in this country, despite the gripes and missteps.

Thanks to all who fought and made it possible.

And, thanks Dad; I know you were claustrophobic and that submarine duty was no picnic.

Channel 5 actually had a very good spot regarding WWII veterans, that brought more than a few tears to my eyes.

Many, many thanks to ALL the veterans and active duty personnel for keeping this country safe...and FREE!!

To those of you who have served, are serving or will serve:

God bless the American fighting man. Your service and sacrifice will never be taken for granted or forgotten.

Far too often, some seem to forget that freedom isn't free.

Here is an idea, Let's remember our current veterans. Hire them to fill the 2000 Officers short on CPD. That is a great way to pay them our respect. Why do we have to wait until they die. Oh I forgot DA Mayor is using the money for something else.

Thanks to all who have and those who still serve! We have ALL of you to thank. Although we deal with constant B.S. on a regular basis, we still live in the GREATEST country, and it's because of our past and present military!
THANK YOU!

Thanks to my Mom and Dad for everything, but especially giving up 4 years of their new marriage in order to do their part to save the world. Their sacrifice on the homefront and in the Army Air Corp during WWII, along with millions of other Americans in our military and on the homefront, saved our country! Thank you Mom and Dad!

I was at a veterans seminar about three weeks ago at UIC. Shortshanks was there and gave a rousing speech about how he supports the veterans of this country and how there was going to be a police and fire test this summer and that veterans will be given preferential points towards their scores. This is not rumor or hearsay, I stood there and listened to him tell several hundred veterans and volunteers that there was going to be a test this summer. I have yet to hear any announcement in the news about a test being given, nor have I seen any preparation for this event. Do you think he could have been lying?

Memorial Day has always had a solemn meaning for me. Sadly, for the vast majority of the population though, it's just an extra day off with a barbecue. Looks like Obama is part of that group with his decision to skip the memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. I watched the outstanding Kevin Bacon movie "Taking Chance" the other day. Brought me to tears. If you haven't seen it, by all means rent it or look for it on HBO. God bless our servicemen and women.

Actually Obama was giving a speech at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetary in Elwood, Illinois until the weather was so dangerous for spectators he had to cut it short. Afterwards- he stayed to meet with military families present - as he should have.

What did you do to honor our military today?

And this is what it's all about. THANKS, EVERYONE! Keep ridding the world of true evil.
"Al-Qaeda's third-ranking operative, an Egyptian who was a founding member of the
terrorist network and a key conduit to Osama bin Laden, has been killed in
Pakistan, according to a statement from al-Qaeda that U.S. intelligence
officials believe is accurate."

from the Aurora blog, Open line blog.com

If you can read this message thank a veteran.

If you can read this message thank a teacher.

A Veteran of Viet Nam, was wounded there worked at Catterpiller for ten years than joined the Aurora Police Dept for 30 years, retired and his Social Security is reduced for having a government pension which he paid for. Over 300 sponsors or co sponsors so they can go back to their Police, Fireman, and teachers and say I co sponsored your bill. Windfall is in committee and will die there.

Hang your head in shame

I hope all of you celebrated Memorial Day yesterday. A fellow officer of mine went to a loud noise complaint and when the resident asked him to allow them to continue partying because it was a holiday, he told them "Ok, tell me what holiday it is and you can stay out here" The guy couldn't come up with an answer! Needless to say, his party got shut down right then and there. Jackass....

Yeah, big sacrifice. He couldn't be bothered to modify his personal vacation plans to actually lay a wreath at Arlington as real Presidents do, but he did take an hour out of his day to be catered to, driven a few miles out of the city on a closed interstate at high speed, driven back, and probably laugh in his limo about the stupid rubes that actually serve in uniform.

Get off his dick already, you're embarassing yourself.

Hope and Change...LOL. Right.

I asked a 21 year old high school graduate to name just one of the US Supreme Court Justices, just one. He could not do it. Not even one. Not even Clarence Thomas.

Public schooled.

Ways to get inexpensive international seats? From Las Vegas to Rome.?

There are no websites offering cheap tickets.
The same flight will be the same price irrespective of where you look.
The ultimate way to get the best fare on a global flight can be
to book in advance (4-6 months in advance is usually recommended for worldwide
flights), and to be flexible together with your particular travel dates (changing your trip by a week might make a big difference
in prices; it is also generally cheapest to
fly on Tues, Wed, and Sat).
