Don't Touch My Money
Shortshanks is "cool" to the idea of actually spending money collected in taxes where he can't control it:
City Hall would need to be “very careful” in using economic development funds to fill a $654 million budget hole, Mayor Daley said Saturday, while refusing to rule it out.
The funds “were never intended to [shore up] budgets — I mean you have to be very careful there,” he said at a ribbon-cutting on the Southwest Side. “You have to look at everything. You just can’t say, ‘That’s the answer.’ ”
Daley also breaks with the Obama administration's line that everything is hunky-dory:
“If you take all the money out of TIFs then there’s no money next year,” he said. He was also lukewarm to the suggestion of privatizing Midway airport given the weak seller’s market.
“The economy is getting worse every day,” the mayor said Saturday...
If Daley can't control it, he doesn't want anything to do with it. Even in the face of a possible aldermanic revolt, he's telling them to stay away from "his" economic development piggy bank. This guy has got to go.

Daley stated you can't use TIF money to hire police because in a few years the TIF will be gone and then where will the money come from. When the TIF expires the money goes back to the general fund you know that's where the money to hide police and fire and other city services comes from. TIF money is the biggest scam in the world. TIF money are property taxes that are diverted from the general fund into a slush fund for the mayor.

BO is on his way to Chicago to spend untold millions of taxpayer dollars celebrating his 49th birthday. While he is here, he will be attending several fundraisers including one for fat cats that costs $30,000 for entree. A true man of the people. How can BO use taxpayer money (Air Force One, Marine choppers, Secret Service, etc.) to come to Chicago to raise money for the Dumocrooks? At the same time BO is spending money on himself and claiming the economy is rebounding, Richie is saying the economy gets worse everyday. Should make for interesting conversation when Daley attends BO's birthday bash.
He can't hire police with TIF money, yet he can have "programs" for ex-offenders. What a jag!!
Kind of Off-Topic but same general subject, where does all the lottery money go? I really would love to know. I would like to know how much the State is collecting and where every penny goes, exactly. I read that this is a record year for lottery sales because the economy is so bad. Where is it going? And is anybody really winning anything?

I can truthfully say I have not won anything this year. Or last. Or the year before.
Supposedly, the lottery was intended for education. But like most (if not all) tax and other monies, it can be found in a pit of bottomless slush funds for politicians to waste. :(
