Sounds Familiar?
A man apparently impersonated a bus driver and drove a CTA bus out of a garage on the South Side last week, prompting the CTA to consider tightening security.
The man, wearing what appeared to be a CTA uniform, drove the bus out of the 103rd Street garage and was seen later that night by another employee, according to a release from the CTA.
Thank goodness he wasn't intent on any real harm. Now can we expect keypad doors on CTA bus barns along with security and the like?

Rumor has it there are 40 people on the 2006 list either awaiting an appeal, or already had one. Anybody in the know - know when the ball is going to get rolling with them?
The ONLY reason they caught him, so to speak, was he HIT another BUS, parking in the garage 4 hours later. This never happened when Huberman ran the CTA.
At least they don't know if it did. . .
Does that 14-year old police impersonator have an alibi?
I wonder, who will the CTA fire/suspend or threaten to do so over THAT?
Maybe, CTA can talk to the secret service and get some help.
Mmmmm Walked into a CTA barn take a bus, load it up with what ever, drive it downtown on Michigan ave. and boom......Time for security at the bus barns
There's an idea. weisl can follow luberman to the cta. Public transportation security guru. Right up his alley. weissl I Mean not luberman's.
give the guy some credit, he gave the cta some free work for a couple hours
Many years ago, (20 or so?), I took a report from Greyhound that was similar. A former driver who had his own uniform, saw a chink in their security system and realized that there was no one at the garage to question the drivers about what they were doing there or where they were going.
Additionally, the buses themselves, that were not assigned to specific routes, were either travel ready, or down for repair... (similar to our pool vehicles). As drivers came in for their 'one time only' trips, they got a functional bus, and off they went.
So, this former driver began taking his church members on occasional one or two day trips that were crazy cheap and he collected all the money. No one knows how long these borrowed bus trips were going on or how frequently, as he apparently branched out into taking other church groups, etc, but it had been 6 months since he officially drove for them.
He was similarly caught, when some idiot crashed into his bus in a minor traffic crash.
The company, fearing bad publicity, declined to prosecute the driver. They settled for his cooperation in explaining how he was getting away with it, his turning over any company ID and uniforms he had and his signing documents drawn up by their lawyers saying he promised not to do it again.
I assume their security and scheduling of buses is much more precise and regulated today than it was back then.
He was maxed out on his credit card and needed a ride for a few hours. Just like they do with squad cars and dump trucks.
Which connected nephew will get the security contract before Shortshanks leaves.
Being that he worked for free it would be awesome if he gave rides for free
nobody noticed because he drove like crap and was late to every stop. plus had a bad attitude toward life in general.
But where will I pawn off the hopeless, unsolvable problems that people love to present to me on the beat???? No more "here call this number in the morning, ask for caps". Whatever shall I do?
The only reason they caught him, so to speak, was the bus was running on schedule. Additionally, when the bus came to it's final parking place in the usual manner of bouncing off the barn wall for a three-point turn, no CTA employees were injured and no ghost passengers miraculously appeared on the bus claiming injuries and waiving lawyers business cards. He was last seen attempting to enter an unlocked back door of the 003rd police district.
Was it the 16-year old from 003? He should be old enough to drive a bus by now. lol
Imagine an explosive laden bus left on Cicero Ave. under the over pass that leads to the Midway terminals.
The lack of security at the barns is frightening. In the Post 9/11 you'd think they would have learned to at least close them. All it would take is 10 simultaneous planted devices to bring our city to it's knees, with no loss of life for the bad guys. The Forest Glen yard is WIDE OPEN 24/7 as are the other yards in city. WAKE UP DUMMIES,we were given a break know learn from it.
is the 14 year old traffic cop out of the slam again--- maybe he decided he wanted to drive buses instead of being the po po... usually when junior gets sent to jdoc (the thunderdome) they don't like the police to much.....
at least this one was 15
they knew something wasn't right after they realized that bus was running on-time.
Maybe, CTA can talk to the secret service and get some help.

"Thank goodness he wasn't intent on any real harm." -- SCC
They certainly know who he is. The photo of him they showed on television was almost certainly an Illinois Department of Corrections mug shot.
oh yea that secret appeal process that no one seems to know much about??? Any one have any idea when the next test will be? SCC you should push for the city to start a lateral program so you guys could get more officers on the street...would also save the city money in training costs!!
All that's missing is the teenager that fooled everyone in Englewood doing a bus check on that bus.
It was masters, masters, masters, getting ready for his new job when shanks is gone. he's a suckhole at all levels.
FREE COZZI
It's amazing as a CTA employee at the shops on vincennes, they make you show your employee id. But any neighborhood rat can enter through one of the bus garage doors. Makes you feel safe working in the bays.
No you damn fools, CAPS don't mean Continually Antagonize Police Staff.

This is great, hey why doesn't he try to go drive a fire truck?
or better yet a plane
You're assuming there is anyone worth blowing up in Chicago. Some genius who's foresight and political and financial prowess might somehow affect daily world progress. I don't think we have anything to worry about.
