Accounting Problems
Someone was making money somewhere. It's a giant cash business with little oversight (almost like a casino). But Shortshanks has to figure out one last scam for all the connected contractors and hidden relatives:
- Making a profit on Taste of Chicago and the city's six other annual festivals could prove difficult for a private company willing to take on the challenge, according to city documents provided to firms preparing bids.
The city lost more than $6.9 million on the events the last three years, records show. So it's probably no surprise that Mayor Richard Daley's administration says companies bidding to run the events can consider charging admission fees and selling naming rights.
"Ideally, these festivals would remain free, but (bidders) should submit responses that include their recommendations on the economic model which can include an entrance fee," the city bid documents state.
Given the sad state the Taste has turned into, they should have been fencing off the park and charging admission years ago just to keep out the riff-raff. God forbid anyone offend the leeches and attempt to run a professional event that might still be the pride of Chicago. Who wouldn't want the disaster it's become of people shot within sight of the Taste, bullets flying through hotel rooms and roving bands of sexual predators molesting anyone with reach.
However, it is amusing to see Daley uses the same accounting firms that tell us that movies like "Star Wars" and "E.T." never made a dime. Who does he think he's kidding?

Hey, 5 or 10 bucks for a week long pass to the taste would be worth it to keep the animals out so regular working folks could enjoy the event instead of having to look out for the "honor students" God bless the fallen of the CPD and the CFD and their families this year.
Face the facts: the ghetto dweller/SSI recipient is nothing more than a solid vote for the DemoRats. They vote, therefore the Government gives them whatever it takes to placate. Disgusting!

Asking for admission is profiling against the dogs with no money.
And also all the shopping cart pushing mentally deranged piss soaked zombies, admission means they can't get in either.
go to Milwaukee's summerfest great time,,no shitheads spend your money there you wont be robbed, battered ,or raped
In that same note, at times the 'Taste' looked like 'Star Wars'...

OT-This bears repeating....
Alabama Town's Failed Pension Is a Warning
New York Times - Michael Cooper, Mary Williams Walsh - Dec 22, 2010

Private industry pensions are backed by the feds, municipal pensions are not. So for all your sucking up, pimping for the man, backbiting, tattletailing, greedy satanic (Rahmish) behavior you will get shit. Merry christmas- Richie.

Find Me A Person Who Believes These Fest's Are Not Big Money Makers For The "Well Connected", and You Will Find A Person Who Believes "The Children's Museum" is For The Benefit of Children. They are Scam's,and Tax Dodges. Created For The "Well Connected".
Just Ask Our Future Mayor, The Next Time You See Him In Your Neighborhood. Watch The Deer In The Headlights Look He Gives You.
Here's some history for those of you too young to remember, or who didn't even live in Chicago before coming on the job: 1. "Taste" was no original idea. It was copied from the festival in Milwuakee. Mayor Byrne sent several police officers from Chicago to Milwaukee to see how they ran it. Most of those officers would later become bosses. (Lt. Healy, and then Sgt. Dart, who later became the Cmdr. of SOS and Mass Transit were among them.) 2. Upon their return they gave Mayor Byrne the ideas they took from Milwaukee and included charging an admission fee as they do in Milwaukee to this day. 3. The first year of Chicago Fest had every police officer and fire fighter getting two free tickets for the event. 4. However, the then camera grabbing Rev. Jackson, decided that charging admission was discriminatory and he had pickets at the gate of Navy Pier, where the original festival was held. The City caved in, and we have what today is a tourist trap where innocents are victimized by gangs of roving thugs. Daley could have returned to charging admission decades ago, but he chose not to in fear of his coalition of Reverends.
Actually they charge admission in Milwaukee and it keeps the troublemakers out. I stopped going after being intimidated by a group of honor students while walking to the Blue Line.
They should charge at the "Taste" Keep the ghetto trash out. Worked the taste lots of times and over half the folks there are westside ghetto urchins roming about.
Wheres the Forensic Audit of Daley/City of Chicago ????
if you ever went north to experience milwaukee fest you would never go back to the taste again---- I carry a gun and would never take my family to savage fest in grant park....
OT but disturbing news on the pension front is brewing:
one smalle city just stopped making its payments to pensioners when the pension fund went broke. lawyers around the country are looking to see if this can set a precedent.

As a 025th district officer, I appreciate the fact that we will get help. We need help, especially on 1st watch. We have too many cars that are down. There are only 54 officers on 1st watch. Oh, btw, I am a 2nd watch officer with lots of time on the job. I did 9 years on 1st watch in 007 and I don't know why "management" decided to assign people with less than five years to 2nd watch and less than three years to 3rd watch. The officers need to be allocated in a more fair manner. But then again, 025 1st watch has a lot of go getters. God bless you and your weed arrests, suspended drivers license arrests, drinking arrests and pissing arrests. You are the real police and locking up people for the above listed offenses is making a huge difference.

now, that's how you slip in a ball busting.
Our pension sure is not bankrupt, over 3 BILLION doolars in it and if economy recovers, will be doing alot better Dont think we should compare our pension to one in Alabama Before ours goes bankrupt steps would be taken like those that just happened in Springfield, two tiered pensions

I remember good old Jessie getting booed off the CTA buses that had the flip out windows. Booed him a few times myself :)
Mayor Byrne's Honkeyfest
It's just more of Daley's lying to all the voters.
For several years he boasted how the public school grades were improving and the great job being done by CPS.
Then months ago we find out that CPS was lying about the results and the kids were failing miserably.
Now we hear it's the same story for Taste of Chicago, the Mayor NEVER said we lost MONEY in the last two years of TASTE until now.
Many years ago he told us the pensions were solid, now they are broke from the city not funding anywhere close to their share.
As his Golder Reign is coming to an end, we find that the city is totally broke, all the reserves are spent, and he is leaving us with an empty wrapper.
Choose the next Mayor VERY CAREFULLY!
Taste of Chicago should be cancelled. If u want to "taste Chicago" drive around and eat at the actual restaurants. You will spend less and eat more!

Can u blame them? I would get out too!!!
I work near Jackson and Wabash and have, for the last four years, taken vacation during Taste. I just couldn't deal with the people pouring out of the subway: gangsters with teardrop tats, hordes of BMX-riding shitheads, huge babymamas in stretch pants sauntering two abreast (that's the width of three normal people) blocking the fucking sidewalk. And over it all, five or six idiots beating on plastic lard cans.
go to Milwaukee's summerfest great time,,no shitheads spend your money there you wont be robbed, battered ,or raped

I FULLY Agree.....I was at the 1st "Taste" it was held on Michigan Ave. Little samples(tastes)of vendors food. That's how it should be....no shitheads to worry about.
Uh, that lard can is an American/American ghetto drum.
What I don't understand is why the city cannot charge for the fests and make money? Why is it that selling it to a private contractor is the answer to keep he city solvent? That did not work with the parking meters, or the skyway, etc. Why are we privatizing anything that we can charge more for and make that money ourselves. We could have increased parking fees and made more money then we wouldn't be in such a hole. I do not understand.

they do charge, it's just not visible unless you've got a pair of manila envelope seeking glasses.
