Officer Defends Home Successfully

  • An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and killed an armed intruder in his home in the Fernwood neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.

The officer was not injured, Chicago police said.

The suspect was a man in his 40s, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The incident happened at about 7:50 a.m. in the 10000 block of South Princeton Avenue. The intruder made his way into the officer's home and attacked the officer with a "cutting instrument," according to Chicago Police [News Affairs], citing preliminary information.

Fearing for his life, the officer fired his gun at the intruder, hitting him, police said.
And thereby ending the asshole's chosen career path of home invader, burglar and oxygen thief. Well done Officer!

Here's the latest on Captain "Henny Penny." She is assigned to the Inspection Division as a field inspector, but her good friend Chief Gene W. got her detailed to his office, where she will work on "special projects." So she won't be hitting the streets after all. Today at HQ she had a whole crew of P.O.s cleaning out her new office on the 5th floor, and she demanded (and got) the carpets cleaned because she is important, you know. This is how they reward the constant "f*ck-ups" on the CPD.

Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel refused to accept a $50,000 speaking fee for addressing the International Home and Housewares Show at McCormick Place earlier this month and requested the money be directed to the Greater Chicago Food Depository; charities for the families of firefighters and police officers who died in the line of duty; and to the Center on Halsted, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community center. Sneed is told checks for $12,500 for each group were cut Tuesday.

No right thinking person should ever watch the change 32 news. Robin Robinson is a total moron. She loves injecting her opinion on half the stories she reports on. The worst is Darlene Hill, running around pretending to be a reporter.

OT: Other than police officers having to kill home invaders inside their own homes and be subject to attack almost daily at work:

Illinois least-favorite spot to retire, study says

By Sandra Guy
Staff Reporter
sguy@suntimes.com

Mar 30, 2011 05:04AM

Illinois ranks dead last among states in which to retire, according to website TopRetirements.com’s analysis based on taxes, the climate and the state’s fiscal health, or lack thereof.

“Illinois is in terrible fiscal shape, even borrowing to meet its pension obligation,” said study author John F. Brady, founder of TopRetirements.com, based in Madison, Conn. “You don’t know what will happen, but you will have to cut spending and raise taxes. That could be bad for programs and services that seniors use frequently, such as libraries, Medicare, public transportation and programs for the elderly.”

The Midwest’s climate didn’t help either, since most people ready to retire prefer warm weather, Brady said.

One redeeming factor for Illinois is the absence of any tax on pension or Social Security income, he said. Ranking just above Illinois were California, New York, Rhode Island and New Jersey. The website came up with only four states that met the criteria for “best” in which to retire, based on the states’ fiscal health and low cost of living. They are, from No. 1 to 4, West Virginia, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and Texas.
---

Retire in Illinois? I live here and I don't even want to do that. I am looking to flee immediately upon retirement. If Quinn puts a tax on retirement income watch for the stampede to increase.

No, not SIG FORUM… S/F ROCKS. I get my well grounded dose of humor, reality, drama, news, and an education from this place. I wish Sig Forum was a City. I’d move here in a second!
I HATE CHICAGO!

I hate Chicago more and more as the seconds tic by. I’m almost to a point of “Deep Institutional Loathing”. The crime, the welfare leaches, the ghetto, the politics, the politicians, the courts, the system, the stupidity, the apathy, the liberals, the sub-zero weather…. I can go on, and on, and on…

Do you know what REALLY chaps my hairy Irish ass? The whole “One step forward, two steps back” thing. WTF, OVER!!! Just when things are looking “somewhat” better… Dammit…

King Richard “Shortshanks” Daley is out come 16 May. Good bye and good riddance. “One step forward”, right?

Well, here’s the “Two steps back”: Oprah is leaving. Whatever… could care less… But that fat assed, useless, liberal, whining, festering boil on the ass of society is moving into her studio, and starting her own show. She’s taking over Oprah’s cast & crew. That gelatinous fuck is coming to MY TOWN. Now, Oprah has too much invested, so do you think that rosie o’donnell will be set up for ANY chance of failure? <<< STEP ONE

STEP TWO>>> Anheuser-Busch has just bought out Goose Island Brewery. Goose Island makes some of the best brews known to mankind. Goose Island makes Nirvana in a bottle! http://www.gooseisland.com/pag..._county_stout/59.php Don’t believe me? Ask our own Mr. Right 2 Carry! He’ll tell you how good it is! (After he figured out how to open it! ) Those morons have had a bad habit of buying out a good micro-brewery, changing the recipes, mass producing it, and turning gasoline into goat –piss. There they go… ***POOF***, gone like a whisp of smoke in the Windy City. 312, Matilda, Green Line, India Pale, Sofie, Pepe Nero… It all may be turned into watered down bum urine.

Damn, this city really knows how to fuck up a man’s day. What this town really needs is an enema!

I dunno… I guess I needed to vent a little. I knew what I was getting into years ago. My Father was a City Worker, I know the game, and how it was, and is played. I understand it, I don’t want to accept it, but I understand it. I’m a big boy, and there aint too much I can’t handle that’s tossed my way…. But to fuck with a man’s beer… that just aint right.

Well after Jody and Phil did you really think it would be an M/2?

What I'm really curious to see is when LAPA and the Hispanic revs and community will begin to cry foul. Frankly, my bet was it would be their turn. Then again, Rahm won every black ward in the city. Perhaps this is his thank you to the community.

On the other hand, one demographic saw the biggest drop in the recent census results and one demographic was the only to demonstrate growth in our city on the decline. Which would you choose to align with?

Ah, racial politics in Chicago. Or is that redundant? In Chicago can't we just start saying politics, the racial aspect being a given?

Off topic: Kass's column today on an interview with Jody. He stated he consulted with FOP leadership about wearing the uniform before he did this and was given an approval. If this is true, then he did not do this arbitrarily and is it reprehensible that the FOP did not speak up on this matter. Then Jody stated Daley gave him compldeste autonomy in running the department. Well, I do not believe that there is a police chief in the country that gets autonomy and certainly not with someone like the chicago machine. The appointments of Weiss states that this comment is an out and out lie. He must have signed a confidentiality agreement and has to keep his mouth shut. Weiss took some bad advice, the Cozzi matter for one which became a rallying cry for the department. Unfortunately, the Cozzi matter does not gain any sympathy from the general public. If jody did not go after Cozzi, did not wear the uniform, did not promote those with intense city hall clout, would his perception amoung most police officers be different?

If any police officers spent any time cleaning out an office for an exempt, or for anyone else for that matter, then they are ass kissers supreme and should be ashamed. Police officers are not janitors or go-fers, and in reality should not be secretaries or office clerks. They are law enforcement professionals. It just goes to show you how low some people will stupe or crawl to keep a good assignment. I certainly hope the next administration cleans out these offices and puts the able officers back on the street and then hire civilians.

This fucking guy just won't go away. I have to say though, i never knew that he asked marky mark donahue about wearing the police uniform and mark said it would be ok. Thanks a lot mark. Why didn't you speak up and say something. I despised the guy b/c of that (and a number of other things) but had i known he at least asked the union first, that would've made me feel differently about that issue at least.

But I won't vent and be angry. When I started and worked with some veteran cops, they all told me the following: "kid, this job has changed, you are better off writing a few parkers, movers and contact cards. Don't get involved in anything because if you do, this department will hang you dry. They don't care about you, they only care about themselves".

COWARDS AT CHICAGO TRIBUNE, WGN AGAIN REFUSE TO GIVE OUT EVEN MINIMAL DESCRIPTION OF PHONE SNATCHER WHO KILLED ELDERLY WOMAN AT FULLERTON "L" STOP

Murder is one thing - "political incorrectness" even worse.

WGN's Lourdes Duarte gave nothing but the offender's approximate age and physical size.

Chicago Breaking News demurs that "Authorities released only a vague physical description of the suspect but said he wore a black jacket with the letters "WS" on the back."

Here.

Police are looking for a black male, 17-30 years old, 5'6" - 6'4", 130-210 pounds.

It's a vague description, but police hope that video from the train station captured the robbery so they can have a better description.

If you have never handled a handgun before, 8 hours is not near enough. You need more training and then a minimum of a visit to the range monthly and put 100 rounds through the weapon each month. And study the law involving deadly force.

Make the wrong decision and you too can be sued for all you have.

I almost fell off the couch while watching WGN news at 9 last night. They actually called the dead guy a SUSPECT! NOT a victim. Are the tides changing?

3/30/2011 06:45:00 AM

I'll know the tide is turning when WGN reports that "A PO gave a shithead a well deserved eternal dirt nap this afternoon..." "another happy ending with all the good guys unharmed" or something to that effect.

While most officers didn't do shit. We went out there and worked our fucking tail off.

I was wrong and you veteran officers were right. I will be back in a district, manning a beat car and that is fine. I will do just the basics.

Let's not jump to conclusions about the two coppers accused of whatever up north. Wrigleyville is filled with completely black out drunk girls that are willing to do whatever you basically want. They get so drunk, have sex, wake up, can't remember full details of what happened, then accuse guys of wrongdoing. I don't know the circumstances of this case, but believe me, i know the type of young drunk girls that flood wrigleyville every night. So don't be so quick to judge.

F/1 ends her " report " by saying & I quote " these are desperate times and desperate people do desperate things.

Very few of the iPhone snatchers are "desperate" in the financial sense. They are easy pickin's for lazy thugs, what with all the distracted trixies texting away without a care. The Youtube video of the M/1 who was captured by Guardian Angels in Uptown had an interesting comment from someone claiming to be a relative. Said the kid had a good home, father was a fire battalion chief and mom well-employed, too. Just a spoiled POS who thought grabbing a phone from some Asian foreign exchange students made him a gangster.

Well-employed? Actually said mom was a Chicago cop for 18 years.

How are these 2 P.O.'s fucked when they were ordered to DUI the P.O.?"

3/30/2011 10:25:00 AM

That's an easy one. You disobey an unlawful order, like anyone who has any sense would do.

No "unlawful" order was given. An unlawful order would be say, "shoot this traffic violator". The officers administered a test as the result of an order from a supervisor. It would no different than if a supervisor told you to write a traffic ticket. The officer would write it and the supervisor would be the witness. Coppers are fine on this one.

100% correct. these gys thought they got "lucky". Problem is we have a responsibility to protect the public not take advantage of the situation. i'm speaking from a high moral ground but speaking as the public will view this.
If she was incaapable of making a sound decision (and none of these drunks are) these guys are going to viewed as predators. If they are lucky they'll get fired and can fight to get their jobs back. If the press decides to make an Abatte case out of this these guys could have serious problems.

She was at A3 range the other day supposedly qualifying. I don't know if they had to give her a gun to qualify with. Why would you feel differently about Weis? So, the FOP prez told him it was ok. And there was a HUGE outcry and backlash. AND WEIS PROVED (over three whole years) THAT HE WASN'T BRIGHT ENOUGH TO MAKE THE DECISION TO STOP WEARING THE UNIFORM.

3/30/2011 12:33:00 AM

Well, she screwed up her career all the way to the 5th floor!

Man, if she makes the news one more time, the City will have to punish her by giving her the superintendent's spot.

Nothing like rewarding embarrassment and incompetence, eh? Unbelievable.

Survivors of Reagan Shooting Campaign Against Concealed Carry

Updated: Wednesday, 30 Mar 2011, 7:04 AM CDT

By Mike Flannery, FOX Chicago News

Orland Park, Ill. - Tim McCarthy, a former Secret Service agent who took a bullet intended for President Ronald Reagan, will observe the 30th anniversary of the attempted assassination on Wednesday by going to Springfield to oppose legislation that would repeal Illinois's ban on concealed carrying of firearms.

McCarthy said he's alarmed that an Illinois House Committee approved a concealed carry proposal. The full House could vote soon.

McCarthy will be joined by Reagan Press Secretary Jim Brady, who was also shot. He is still partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair. Since the shooting, Brady and his wife have crusaded for what they call "reasonable gun control laws."

I agree not to jump to conclusions about the accusation of rape by the two officers in 023, but the conclusion of stupidity and conduct unbecoming has been firmly established. Best case scenario is that they just payed $1,000,000 in cumulative salary and $1,000,000 in potential pension for what they could have gotten off duty. Not to mention the non-numerical price that we the decent officers of the CPD will have to pay from our reputation being tarnished. People expect the SOS type scandals to hit big police departments every ten years or so, beating up bartenders and taking advantage of drunk girls is what really turns them against us.

There are a lot of variables, but preparation for the aftermath in advance of the "math" is key. Take it from there.
