So Did He Pay Rent?

  • Venture capitalist. An assistant for a cable sitcom on Spike TV. Amateur podcaster on the fortunes of the Chicago Bears.

Richard J. “R.J.” Vanecko, a nephew of Mayor Daley, is all of that — in addition to being at the center of a 7-year-old homicide investigation that’s now itself the subject of an investigation by the city of Chicago’s inspector general’s office.

  • Vanecko’s most current address — the one he used when he updated his Illinois driver’s license and voter registration two years ago — is a South Loop apartment building that his oldest brother’s investment firm bought with city pension money it’s managing. But according to interviews with people who know him and an industry website, Vanecko, 36, now lives in Southern California, where he’s pursuing a career in the entertainment business.
This means that Richard (the one who got away with manslaughter) was living in a building owned by brother Robert (the one who got away with millions in pension money). A building he bought with Chicago Police pension funds. Technically, the investment firm is the landlord, but it's police pension money paying the bills.

So we wonder, was Richard paying any rent? Was he paying the going market rate or was he scamming a discount (or free) from his brother's largess? We're thinking this was the 1212 S. Michigan address, which isn't exactly a low rent building. We're also thinking this could be part of the reason the Venecko/Daley investment saw little-to-no-return on the Police Pension monies.

Off Topic: By Rahm appointing (not electing) a "Deputy Mayor" for $1.00/year, does that allow this individual to operate beyond the reach of the Board of Ethics, since he neither meets the salary threshold nor the "elected" position definition?

It might be time to sue him for the monies owed. Not that we'd recoup the millions squandered, but it would make a point.

California has gained another scammer. P.T. Barnum alert! Watch your wallets, California.

When you kill a guy in the midwest, you always want to high tail it to the west coast. Just like when you scam the city out of some money, you want to move to Russia for a while until the heat dies down.

Many of us look at this with a tongue in cheek attitude. It was our money. The pensions in the the State of Illinois are in trouble and that would include the Chicago Police Department. It was our money. Yes, there is a continuing and inexplicable, almost irrational annointing of the heads of the Pension Board. Many of whom were on watch when the money was "lost". It was our money and how are we to get it back.

According to the Slum-Times, RJ pointed a shotgun during the little melee in Michigan in which Patrick Daley lumped the boy's head w/ a baseball bat.

RJ was a student of Loyola Academy at the time & I'm sure pointing a shotgun at people would of violated any number of ethical/moral clauses binding of students of LA and thus would of been grounds for being dismissed from school.

I'm sure the administration at LA was aware of the incident but as we know, there are two sets of rules. One for the clouted & one for the un-clouted.

Anyways, Loyola Academy please stop sending me requests for contributions!!!

Why don't we sue him? I mean we need to set a precedent. How do you steal from the Police and get away with it?

Interesting. A high profile guy like this, and no one will confirm if he actually WORKS for a living, or where he lives? Un-fucking-believable, but I'll tell you what;
gotta give it to the friends of Shanx for being loyal.
No one's giving this little privileged piece of shit up
to the media, and that says a lot.

Over his head -- that's a laugh. He dove in head first and was buried up to his shoulders in a pile of muck on the bottom, and now "his" lawyer has him tangled in the weeds going down for the last time. Time to cut some of those ties Mikey! Prune wisely.

I love this site. I read and post on it often. It's good therapy to read the "rants". We have no power to do anything, other than read, and rant.
Thanks SCC for the free therapy, and keep it coming.

Daddy Venecko used to work at my office, but we weren't supposed to tell anyone. No idea what he did, but I guess the Real Estate Appraisal industry was handy for the Daleys. We set up all those TIFs and valuated real estate all around town. Alot of kids with familar names and mystery office occupants we weren't supposed to talk about.

Have you ever noticed how some privileged groups of folks, those with clout jobs and highly connected bosses, do extraordinarily well on promotion exams? Let's say statistically impossible well. Metaphysically impossible well.

I got news for ya buddy, people steal from the police every day around here. If you're a cop you work with some of them. Hell, you may work directly for some of them.

As for RJ Vanecko there is clearly no justice in this life for him. If there's an afterlife he may not be so lucky.

Dude, shut the fuck up already. There was an election. Your guys lost, he won. Enough with the sour grapes already. There was enough bullshit with the last crew and there will most likely be bullshit with this crew. It is what it is. Let's focus on some more important shit like how these assholes are going to kill the rest of our pensions when Tiny Dancer gets in.

Who on the pension board allowed Daley's nephew to get a chunk of our pension funds?
Did they (Vanecko) reveal who they are when they approached the pension board?
I'm guessin Daley had no knowledge of this and played dumb.

The word "of" is not a verb. Here is an example. If you could have gotten into Ignatius, you would have known this.
