We're surprised some enterprising reporter hasn't filed some kind of FOIA to get a copy of the supposed Burke court order.
As a number of our commentators pointed out, even Orders of Protection come with expiration dates and fall under a semi-regular reevaluation process. Can anyone else imagine a court order lasting in excess of 25 years without any sort of review, adjustment or evaluation?
But the media eats up the bullshit excuse and Rahm says he's "not focused" on the issue:

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said today he's not focusing on the size of Ald. Edward Burke's bodyguard detail, which he suggested during the mayoral campaign would need to be cut in the spirit of shared sacrifice.
Emanuel said he's concentrating on getting large numbers of police officers back on the street rather than whether Burke, 14th, should continue to have six Chicago police officers assigned as his guards.
"My main goal wasn't about the six officers related to Ald. Burke, but the 650 officers we put into the streets. And now the commanders have the resources to do what they need to do," Emanuel said.
The 650 officers, 500 of which came from street units and were returned to the streets they were already patrolling. Right.
Remember, this is going to be a "transparent" mayoral administration. The lies certainly are transparent so far. Stevie Wonder called and asked what the hell is gong on in Chicago. And being aided by the willful blindness of the media doesn't hurt matters any.

I would like someone to reference any precedent that gives a county court power of how a municipality deploys it's police force. Has there ever been a case that anyone can cite or remember (besides the obvious) where a judge ordered a city to give a city employee a permanent police detail? Anyone? Bueller?
Why doesn't someone start forwarding the list of monthly retirements from the FOP newsletter to the media. Simple math will show the 40-50 retirees each month which equals 480-600 last year alone. When they do the math they can no longer eat up the shit the Rahm is feeding everyone about all these officers he's pulling out if the air.
Shields - Step up and make some noise. If you don't you'll be out of the FOP before you get a chance to decorate your sweet little office. Act like a leader.

The original order (25 yrs ago) was entered to keep politics out of the equation as far as whether or not this security detail was really needed.
I seem to remember, somewhere back in my academy days, learning that there is a distinct difference between the SPIRIT of the law and the LETTER of the law. I'm sure that when that court order was entered back in the '80s, the intent or SPIRIT, was not to unnecessarily endanger Burke by keeping the security detail from being pulled by Mayor Washington in an attempt at revenge against Burke for all of his "Council Wars" shenanigans. This certainly should NOT have continued beyond the death of Mayor Washington, however.
Burke has played this out till now claiming the LETTER of the law says he keeps the detail as long as he is Finance Committee Chairman. Want to end the detail? Dump Slick Eddie from the Finance Committee and play hardball with him with EVERY future ploy he uses to try to keep the detail.
Bottom line is this pos has soaked the tax coffers for million$ over this. He has a freaking gun already. Let him use the Zip Cars or assign him a marked car... that will make it appear that there are more police officers out there than there really are, which seems to be the administrations' law enforcement strategy anyway.
017 district about a week ago. a A seperated husband and new girfriend drag out of the car and beaten by his ex wife and family. No cars available RAP in first car didnt get there for fourty minutes. Now if thsi sgtarts happening in the slower districts to average citizens then the media needs to take the stories and run with it.

A Chicago reporter with some balls should break away from the regularly edited polticallly correct news and start his own news show on cable. Go afer all these dirty highly paid goverment elected officals and thier staffs.

The city is in a financial crisis and now the mayor lacks the balls to do the right thing. He must order his corporation counsel to file a motion to vacate that court order which is 20 years old. It is that simple. There are victims of abuse who cannot have an order of protection for perpetuity…then how can this prince continue to have these body guards at a cost that well exceeds one million per year. The country is entering a double dip recession which will affect our pensions and our family’s financial well being but this corrupt city continues to provide police bodyguards to Burke who has the ability to carry a gun. He is anti second amendment for the citizens of this state but he has Chicago Police officers buying his groceries at Petes Market on Pulaski. Men and women are losing their jobs and their benefits yet Rahm lacks the balls to make good on his campaign promise for change...he would rather go after the teachers union. When is this state going to wake up...when is this city going to realize that it no longer affords the perks to the elected officials that was so prevalent under Daley. The problem is that the corporation counsel Georges was made by Ed Burke and half the judges owe their position to the political machine. The sun times wants to know who killed that young man several years ago in the city...we all know it was Daley’s nephew. Now it is time to expose the corruption of the Illinois court system and the conflict of interest of Burke’s law firm in regards to city contracts. Do not count on the state’s Attorney to do anything or the Illinois Attorney General...Who will take the lead?

TV news had stories about Rahm moving back to his house on Hermitage Ave.
They interviewed neighbors who said they really appreciated the extra security after a recent burglary and armed robbery.
Sadly even if Rahm and Burke cave in to the mounting pressure there's little chance of any of those 6 butlers seeing the inside of a beat car. Just like Shortshanks former prima donnas they'd simply wind up in a decent spot not a district. Shanks former butlers all went either to mass transit or the airports. Way to put more beat officers out there Rahm. Talk about transparency.
