Now it's the top story on Channel 5 news, eighteen days later:
The pervasion of illegal guns in America's black and Latino communities is a result of "government-sponsored racism," akin to "slavery, segregation, black codes [and] Jim Crow," Rahm Emanuel's new police chief, Garry McCarthy, told parishioners at St. Sabina's Church earlier this month.
"This is sensitive. You know, because everybody’s afraid of race. Have you noticed that? Everybody’s afraid of race. I'm not afraid of race," said McCarthy, who told of growing up in the Bronx with guns, gangs and drugs plentiful.
"Let’s see if we can make a connection here. Slavery. Segregation. Black codes. Jim Crow. What, what did they all have in common? Anybody getting scared? Government sponsored racism."
And his speech sucked on many levels, especially describing walking through a crime scene destroying evidence. How does that sound to the greenest rookie in the field who knows better than to wander into a scene and start kicking over things. It sounds like bullshit.
And the Palin crack? She wasn't there because law abiding citizens don't usually hang out at crime scenes they have no connection to. And in case you forgot, those shows are taped weeks and months in advance. So you seeing her hunt caribou in Alaska probably happened a long time before your evidence destroying rampage.
Honest to pete, this speech gets dumber every time we see it. And it's not just us - the comments on the NBC site are shocked, amused and disgusted, too. A great impression being made.

i think we as Police Officers forget that no matter who our superintendant is, he is picked by a liberal mayor. we can only hope for so much, but really, expecting reasonableness and fairness is expecting too much. But im glad i saw the video, atleast now i know 100% where this guy has sided. ear tickling a congregation of people who will blame the government, the police, and anyone who works hard for their problems. No personal or moral responsability. I wish I could go to st.sabina, and city hall for that matter with three stone tablets, two of the ten commandments and one with the name of all the p.o.'s that have given the ultimate sacrifice for these people and did as moses did, break them in their presence and scream "You are not worthy!" Superintendent McJudas has shown us his true colors.
The Chicago Media is third-rate.
If you ask any of them, their huge egos will tell you they are the best but when you look at their coverage (or non-coverage) of many events, it is poor.
I have stopped watching local TV media and reading the newspapers, I just watch national news. Most other news, I get off the web - including SCC (a much more accurate barometer of what is going on in the city)

Guess how many people my 20 year old gun has killed since I bought it at the academy, or a family member was hurt by it? NOT ONE FUCKING PERSON!!!!!! Now lets say if I was negligent gun owner that allows anyone access to my firearm or didnt have any conscious, then I am pretty sure My firearm would have several bodies attach to it. I listened to the video and I agree it is apalling and reckless. The only I think he could possibly be trying to do is gain the trust of black community, though I think it is going to backfire on him. I think he thinks that the black community will view him as a leader who will keep their best interests in mind and therefore the black community won't be crying racism all the time so the Police can do their jobs without politcal interruption. McCarthy had absolutely no business at St. Sabinas saying the things he did. We are still owed an explanation by Mayor Rahm and by Supt. McCarthy. Ignoring the nationwide coverage and NOT giving an explanation or an apology is another slap in the face of the Citizens of Chicago. The Archdiocese owes Chicagoland Catholics an explanation also, of why one of their Churches was allowed to be the site of vicious race baiting and political attacks. McCarthy's speech happened directly afer a religious service and as such taints the sanctity of the Mass of that Church. Unless the Chicago Archdiocese has fallen to politics also??
