Let's Cut the Day Crew

Rumors abound about slashing the number of officers assigned to days in order to increase the manpower on midnights and afternoons. If so, get used to this type of incident:
  • A 1-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being shot in the head this morning on a street in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said.

The incident happened about 8:11 a.m. at 84th Street and Muskegon Avenue, where the child and her 15-year-old aunt were walking a dog, police said. The aunt heard shots and fell on the child. Earlier police reports had said the child was with her mother.

A man was bicycling in the area near the woman and her child when two male teens began shooting at the bicyclist, who managed to get away, police said. No one is in custody in the shootings, police said.

When was it, three years ago or so? There was a spate of shootings of CPS students and an outcry of putting more cops in and around the schools during the beginning and end of the day. Something like 50 students were shot and over 20 died. So the Department shifted gears and the shootings shifted to the night hours, resulting in the recent changes to curfew ordinances. Now we're about to go back in time and open up the streets to burglars, home invaders, thefts and we're betting more students getting wasted.

For the most part, police are a reactionary force. Even more so today being down 2,300 officers from less than a decade ago. This seems to be another one of those times.

We need help out here. Period. My partner and I have each successfully sought Agg batt po once each this summer. The animals do not respect us, they do not respect life, the laws, or their own families. But fuck the rest they don't respect us, they definitely do not fear us... For the love of god, hire some more police! We lost 5 too many brothers last year, we had two cops shot in the head last month. The military would consider this a state of emergency. But Cpd?? Just business as usual. Move along, nothing to see here.

Sanctuary City Cost Saving Tip Number 32.

Just roll the entire police department into the Department of Streets and Sans. Then double up the stock of yellow and red crime scene tape -- you can buy it now at amazon dot com in bulk along with body bags now don't ya know.

I'd keep your eyes open too because they just might have a "back to school" special on that stuff.

So, nothing will get done during the day because there will be no one to do it. Obviously, all the Federal and local government offices aren't going to just decide to sync with Garry's new world order.

Who will deal with the Feds? Springfield? City Hall? The County? Warrants, schools, hospital administrators?

I foresee lots of overtime in my crystal ball. Lots of cases handled haphazardly. Lots of red faces when the experiment fails.

There is a lot of bullshit on days that is forever tying up police resources. All businesses and schools are open on days and the schools love to call the police. Of course you've got your ridiculous boxes, missions etc.
Days cannot afford to give up too many bodies and still be expected to function safely.

McCarthy has pointed out over and over in the compstat meetings that during the hours of 2300-0400 a majority of violent crime occurs in almost every district, but also asks why does every 1st watch in these districts have the least amount of officers assigned to it?

He wants more people on 1st watch period.

Lets cut the Doy crew. I can only handle job at a time. Then you can have seniority on days starting at 17 years. Pushing a beat car sucks and its even worse when it is done on 1st and 3rd watch. Days is no picnic, but you do get ti enjoy a family life.

The truth of the matter is that days could be cut by 20% however, command staff, caps and the hidden ones with no time wont go! They will cut street officers. This will create huge back logs that 3rd watch will have to clean up.

I know most of you will not agree but i could do another 10 years on days if I have to. most p/o's on this job will be stuck on 1st or 3rd watch for 20 years. I say bring back rotation that way the non suck holes Can spend some time with their family.

This will come to a head sooner, than later. This joint can't be run with the manpower levels the way they are much longer.

POs can't write tickets of any type or do street stops if they are chasing the radio all shift.

G4 and NATO will make 1968 and the "Days of Rage" look like a picnic. Anarchist and ultra lib organizations are gleefully preparing.

The only good thing is that will be Obama's undoing when people see that liberalism doesn't work.

The 2nd watch has to supply people for schools, (inside and out), two day active shooter training, Tara training, (what happened to that?), Tahoe driving training, and God knows whats else. They have people I.O.D. from fighting with prisoners, people in court, people in hospitals guarding a prisoner or two, people getting a mitimus, people to go to Cubs games and on weekends people to go to marathons, parades and other details. Than you have to deal with dispatchers giving out "late" jobs instead of giving them to the next watch. It can get so busy that, heaven forbid, you just can't get all the required event numbers! But it still beats unemployment.

Now that the future IR numbers, err children will be back in prison aww school, and cta special will be cut eventually, because they are forming a new cta police force the big question is? The cta has lots of crime, but yet cta coppers are told to spend up to 3 hours per day closing schools in the animalisitic areas so the jungle people will not kill each other! But we also have the jenius (Genius) principals who want to get rid of CPD in schools who is running this Titanic?
The cta pays for coppers but they are at the schools while they want coppers not at the schools educated people really are idiots!

One of the problems is these thugs are throwing rounds all over the place and can't hit what they are aiming at. I say we round them up, drag them to the range and teach them how to hit each other rather than some innocent 1 YO. Besides, if they hit each other it will save many innocent victims and also help empty out the shallow end of the gene pool.

Airlines, Sears taking advantage of Downstate tax havens

Wednesday, Aug 24, 2011

* The sales tax haven scam is a very big deal. I’ve been covering the issue for months. And now it appears that two very large airlines are also in on it…

The two biggest airlines at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport route their jet fuel purchases through an outlying Illinois town, shaving millions of dollars off their tax bills but raising the hackles of Chicago officials.

The airlines’ tax break agreements with Sycamore, which have flown under the radar for years, have allowed United and American subsidiaries each to trim as much as $12 million to $14 million off their annual tax bills in recent years, documents show.

By routing big purchases through a lower-tax enclave, the airlines are taking advantage of Illinois’ unusual tax rules to avoid tax rates that are as high as 9.75 percent in Chicago. […]

United Aviation Fuel Corp. opened a small office in Sycamore after negotiating a sales-tax rebate agreement with the city in 2001, which was updated in 2003. American Aviation Supply LLC negotiated a pact in 2004, opening an office in a city-owned building the next year. Each operation employs only one or two people, city officials said. [Emphasis added]

Sandoval scholarships forwarded to FBI - And more on that withdrawn amendatory veto

Wednesday, Aug 24, 2011

* The Sun-Times drives another very large nail into the legislative scholarship program’s coffin…

A tan-bricked bungalow in the 4500 block of South Avers Avenue must be a popular hangout for college kids.

Five students certified that same home —owned by a paid campaign staffer to state Sen. Martin Sandoval (D-Cicero) — as their permanent residence in order to qualify for highly sought tuition waivers handed out by Sandoval.

The senator told the Chicago Sun-Times he has no explanation for that peculiar coincidence and blamed the State Board of Education for not discovering it, even though Sandoval put his signature on each scholarship application before submitting them to the agency.

After being questioned about the oddity last week by the Sun-Times, a State Board of Education spokesman said his agency has turned the matter over to the FBI and to the Legislative Inspector General’s office for further investigation.

“It seemed strange five individuals who did not have the same last name would list the same address, and so we wanted someone to look into that,” board spokesman Matt Vanover told the Sun-Times.

State law requires that students receiving legislative scholarships live within the awarding lawmaker’s district, and providing any “false or misleading” information on their applications can result in the waivers being revoked and the students having to repay the colleges for the tuition freebies.

Sen. Sandoval blamed his staff, the Illinois State Board of Education and Rudy Acosta, who owned the home. He took no blame for himself.

* Meanwhile, the Legislative Inspector General wants,,,,

All cars on days should be manned by two officers. Think about it. Every time you get ANY kind of a job that is in progress or has the potenial to be "hot", they have to send two cars. Why not just send a two man car which they could do if all cars were two man. Perhaps we wouldn't be stretched so dangerously thin on days if all cars were two man.

We should go back to a watch rotation if McCarthy gets the numbers he wants. The rotational periods should just be longer, say 56 days instead of 28.

Well it seems there has been a warrant out for Pelum Xheka for OVER A MONTH and Summit has yet to arrest this Arab. 2nd watch is usually already short on manpower for beat cars because all the dollies hidden in commanders office, the ever enlarging CAPS office etc. They all count against the 2nd watch manpower but even TNT couldn't get them out of the office and into a beat car. Can the powers that be at headquarters not see where lots of these bodies are hidden on 2nd watch? Are they being told not to look?
A true, hands on audit would turn up multiple officers in each district that could and should be in a beat car not tucked away in some office with weekends off.

Now you know why Illinois drivers are going to pay an 86& higher toll on the tollway!

It's because "we're all in this together"...

They get a tax break and we get to make up for it.

Well, I'm recently retired out of patrol. When I've called, the calltaker doesn't even ask, they usually just tell me they'll keep me anonymous.

I don't want or need to be anonymous. I've tried to give my name and they're already hanging up. So, don't believe every caller demanded to be anonymous; it's not the case. I'm thinking it's easier for them not to have to fill out the little boxes on the form.
