Shooting in 015

We've been unavailable most of the week, blogging from various undisclosed locations. We had heard about this one earlier, but couldn't really get to a computer:
  • A 20-year-old man was hospitalized in serious-to-critical condition this afternoon after being shot in a police-involved shooting in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, officials said.

Fire paramedics were called to the 5600 block of West Augusta Boulevard at 1:18 p.m., said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado.

Police officials said narcotics officers were conducting an investiation in the area when they noticed a man with a gun. The officers fired their weapons when the man refused to drop the gun.

The man sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, officials said. Initial reports indicated that the man may have been shot in the chest and hand, officials said.

No cops hurt, so all is well. We can't wait until they cut the day crew down by a third.

Sergeant involved ? ? ? ?

That would be the 3rd sergeant in a shooting within 6 weeks.

That in itself shows this city is going to pure SHIT when sergeants have to light these BASTARDS up.

I can not wait to move out of this scum-bag filled city

The other day during 2nd watch on Zone 13, (009 & 012 Districts), a copper called a 10-1. He sounded like he really needed help! The guest dispatcher for the day stayed cool and found out that the radio he was using was in the 15th district. He was able to send help but with a much unnecessary delay!
The change in the radios to the numbers matching the zone numbers is a definite safety concern! The radios should be reprogramed back to where your primary frequency is number 1 on the "A" switch and city wides were on the "C" switch. You used to be able to check your radio for the right zone without even looking at it.
How many times have the radio dials been bumped off the Zone number by the arm rest in the doors, the seatbelts and the bullshit boxes between the seats in the Tahoes!!! Somebody could get seriously hurt for no good reason!!!!!

Practice,Practice,PRACTICE the animals are getting progressively worse be ready, you get in a gunfight you must be sure your weapon WORKS! I shoot more than required and use our ranges,I buy the ammo, and the range officers tell stories sometimes to often where a copper comes in and his/her weapon jams up due to lack of of simple maintenance! Take care of your WEAPON the life you save may be your own!

Ok damn it.

Man w/Gun = Dead If you don't Drop it when ordered.

I was taught to Shoot for Center Mass by my Instructor...Not to Shoot to wound.

I'd rather be interviewed by IPRA and IAD than on a ventilator at Mercy

TV news, Channel 5 I believe, referred to the person shot by the police as "the victim." How twisted these attitudes have become!!!

People who have never worked a beat car on 2nd watch have no clue just how hectic and busy things can be.
If the brain trust at 35th, I use that term very loosely, really do drastically cut 2nd watch there will be huge problems.
If u really do need more officers on 3rd and 1st watch how about hiring? Ok that was silly. How about al least getting rid of that useless CAPS and a few deadbeats from each Commanders office? Then you can leave the thin blue line on 2nd watch alone.

If the city wants to save money and not hire cops so be it. If they want to take your uniform and shift differential checks away so be it. If they don't want to back you even if you are right as rain so be it. Then let these asshole animals kill each other off and don't worry about it. Take the winners to jail and the losers to the morgue. Emmanuel thinks he will come out smelling like a rose penny pinching city workers. He is in for a very sad ending. We will become Detroit 2 sooner than we thought.
