Good News for Winter

  • Low-income families reliant on state and federal assistance to pay energy bills were out of luck this summer, and they could be out of luck in the coming winter as well.

Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity spokeswoman Marcelyn Love says funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, could be slashed by up to 60 percent this season. That news comes after there wasn’t any money for cooling assistance this summer.

Perhaps we'll see some of the subsidized housing with thermostats set at a more reasonable 68 degrees instead of the standard 88 tropical degrees we always seem to walk in on during a February domestic.

2nd watch is out of control! Police shooting in 015 driveby in 016 and no police to be found. McFLUFF wants to cut manpower but who is going to serve the actual taxpayers who are actually awake and deserve the police during the workday?

And if I heard the report correctly on 780 AM, it sounds as though this program might just wind up sending the funds directly to the recipients monthly to help offset/pay their gas bills as opposed to an annual lump sum paid directly to the utility companies.

If this is true, it just goes to show how fucked-up the system is. Taxpayers already send these mutts Stupid Checks, Crazy Checks, Can't Work Cuz I Gots The Asthma Checks and Babysit Your Own Kids Checks - why not this?

What can possibly go wrong with sending MORE money directly to the addict-riddled neighborhoods? I mean, it's not like the corner liquor stores will be buying them for pennies on the dollar, right? Savages won't be killing each other over them, will they?

At minimum, we'll need a new UCR code for "Theft Of Heat Money Check" in the ghetto districts if this happens.

Another epic fail in the making.

This is just the beginning of the cutbacks in welfare programs. The Feds & States have run out of money to give to these lazy freeloading parasites. The Savages will do the same thing that happened in England & Greece.

If it was good enough for humans for thousands of years it will surely still work now

The "Peoples" Gas Company just raised our "budget plan" monthley amount, (in August, NOT June as they are supposed to), from $88.00 to $110.00. They must be looking to make up that shortfall! One way or another, they are gonna get their money and we are gonna pay it!

Stop the welfare, what about giving all our cash to illegals? In California if all illegals were deported the state would have a 10 BILLION surplus instead of a 60 BILLION deficit! Like when we had the major snowstorm in Feb,how many welfare link card freeloaders were ordered to grab shovels and clean the snow from the pavement/streets? NONE! NO WORK NO SHOW just pay me,this mentality has ruined this country after barry obama is out hopefully GOD willing we can get our country back! Load up the trains with illegals, send them back.

Our house is 112 years old. The boiler was put in in 1950 - two years before I was born. Instead of cranking up the thermostat, we have cranked it DOWN. We were able to do this because we put in all new insulation and new high-efficiency windows. We have also zoned the baseboard heat into three zones set-back the temp at night and when we are not at home.

Insulation - the old fiber glass kind, is really inexpensive, but it takes some work to get it right.

Now there is a more modern insulation - closed cell foam - and there is actually a company who was able to pass all of Chicago's bullshit fire code certifications and is able to sell it in the City. Foam is almost 4 times as efficient as fiberglass.

Last year we cleaned out a couple of drafty crawl spaces on the 2nd floor. It took two weeks to remove the soot and moisture ladened shredded wool and cotton which had been placed there in 1901. Once that was done, and we finally got rid of the dust, it was apparent why the 2nd floor crawl spaces, where the 12/12 pitch roof meets the top of the brick, was so difficult to heat - there were gaps big enough to see the street through.

We used the new closed-cell foam insulation on the two crawl spaces - two areas of about 14 X 10 feet, as well as on the interior of the front wall - and within minutes the temperature went from more than 140 degrees to the same temp as the inside of the house.

We literally cut our heating and AC bills by more than 1/3rd by doing just two relatively small areas with huge air infiltration.

Even with older buildings, the owners can take controls of the heating and cooling costs. It might take some effort and an investment of a couple of thousand dollars to do so, but with the cost of utilities spiraling out of control, that investment will pay for itself in just a couple of years with lower overall energy costs.

In our case, the drop in our heating costs was so significant that People Gas thought we had bypassed the gas meter and came out and did an inspection of our meter and pipes to see why the bill had dropped so significantly. This was their 4th such inspection in 10 years and they are not happy that we keep finding ways to improve the efficiency of our home.

So now our heating bills average about 110 per month for a house with more than 2,300 sq ft. We keep the thermostat at 68 or below, and we put the money we save into our savings account.

We all need to find ways to give the bastards who run the utilities LESS money - not more!

This is the biggest waste of money. You give these people something for free and they use the shit out of it. No responsibility what so ever. They crank their heat way up and then open all the doors and windows. Typical. Just the way they use all their freebees. LINK, fake SSI for some made up disability, etc etc.

inner city tenants are always calling city inspectors if the temperature in their section 8 free apartment goes below 78 in the winter while I pay my own heat and keep the temperature at 68, the sad thing is that the city inspectors knowing the city needs the money will gladly write a violation up, end result landlords often can't afford to own the buildings and let them go vacant. If apartment buildings were so profitable as many people think why aren't they building any new ones?

Burger King and McD's are ALWAYS looking for new hires.

How about the Reverend's start giving these people jobs in and around their churches cleaning up and sweeping the streets?

"...standard 88 tropical degrees we always seem to walk in on during a February domestic."

The thermostats in many elderly people's houses are already set barely high enough to keep the pipes from freezing, as they struggle with the ever-increasing property taxes being wrung out of them "for the children" by our latest Haitian dictator.

Now this.

You won't hear any "domestics" coming out of there. Maybe someone will finally notice that they haven't seen their neighbor for a long time and call for a well-being check...

Two-edged sword here.

I don't know what maddened visions people are having about "huge government giveaways," but I do know one elderly person who got a check for $37.00 for the whole summer.

Like the character slingin' on the corner says, "Whachoo talkin' $37.00? That ain't even a shirt."

They just built a fire in the center of the place.

Oughta work fine in "mixed-income housing," huh?

I'm thinking of that building where the parolee/robber/killer was living at the same address as the Secretary of State. Can't remember the street, must be one of those one-block Gold Coast jobs.

Yeah, this is on target. We would have more than enough to help take care of the elderly, etc. if we got rid of the Sanctuary Cities.

Don't think for a minute these tax-payer sucking leeches are going to start paying their utility bills....the losses will just be added on to our own bills by either an in-your-face increase or some sort of "surcharge", make sure you read the small print on your bill.
But don't worry, the slugs will always have enough splash for their cell phone.
