Ozzie Done

  • Beginning this morning, the silence on the South Side will be more deafening than golden, as an organization that worked so long to become relevant is once again faceless.

Monday night ended the eight-year run of Ozzie Guillen managing the White Sox after the say-anything skipper met with board chairman Jerry Reinsdorf at the United Center earlier in the day. The meeting lasted about a half hour and ended with the two men who have enjoyed a father-and-son relationship saying a tearful goodbye. The Sun-Times learned before the game against the Blue Jays that Guillen and Reinsdorf agreed to part ways, with a trade to the Florida Marlins still in the works.

The Sox confirmed the news after the Sox’ 4-3 victory. Guillen leaves behind 678 wins, as well as delivering the franchise’s first World Series title after an 88-year dry spell.

Loud, brash, obnoxious, arrogant, foul-mouthed. He steered the team to just about the only World Series title in living memory and Chicago loves a winner. He won more than he lost, but just barely. He was also a very visible supporter of the Police Memorial. We follow the fall sports more than the boys of summer so we aren't really a good judge of Ozzie as a baseball manager.

Good luck where ever you land Ozzie.

I'll always remember Ozzie for the day Thor was murdered. He asked the police working at the park that night if they would pick him up a CPD hat. After that game he attended the post game press conference wearing the hat as a tribute to Thor. Say what you will about him but the man had some class when it counted.

Any sox fan that continues to be a sox fan after cheap ass Reinsdorf and inept Kenny williams let this guy go is an idiot. You may not like him but he got results. And im not even a sox fan.

It was inevitable, and long overdue, by at least 3 years.
Still, Ozzie did bring home a championship, and for that, thanks for the memories, Ozzie. Good luck wherever you wind up.

Perhaps Ozzie's biggest failing is the stubbornness that often shows up in the guise of loyalty. He should have launched Greg Walker after last season.

But the Adam Dunn/Alex Rios debacles fall squarely on the shoulders of Kenny Williams.

Remember not long ago Ozzie was wearing a CPD baseball cap for an after game interview with the press. I always thought he was a players manager and certainly did the best he could with the team he had. He certainly wasn't dull. Good luck to him wherever he goes.

Fucking cry baby - Ghetto Kenny Williams fucks the team up with all his waste of money picks Including Dunn, and Manny, and it's only when the Sox are doing well did this prick take credit. Ozzie was a good Manager who worked with what he had, played with a bullshit hand from the start. Sox should've sent Kenny Packing too. Thank You Ozzie for doing what the North Siders only wish they could accomplish, and managing a team with heart, and balls! Thank you for your support of our fallen officers.

Ozzie is the best manager Shitcago baseball had! Love him or hate him! He deserves an ovation and baseball history will be his judge here!

Ozzie brought home a 2005 World Series Trophy! No other manager in the last 100 years of losing Shitcago baseball can say that!

Another reason this town SUCKS!

Ozzie moving to Florida is the best move for him and Ozzie will WIN another World Series Ring for them, while we have cold, empty stadiums up here on both sides of town!

Ozzie turned me off when he wrapped himself in the Venezuelan flag after winning the Championship. Helllloooo!!!! It's this country that supported ($$$) your achievements. And I'll second that, when the "Champs" were invited to the White House and he was a no show.
I swore not to watch until he was gone. I guess I will next year.

Hey jackass, get your facts correct. He was very outspoken against Chavez. Several times he went on Twitter and said if Sean Penn loves Chavez so much he should go live in Venezuela and see what it's really like under a dictator.

He loved Chicago, he loved the fans, he loved the White Sox, and he'll be missed.

Here's hoping Kenny Williams gets launched too.

To address Ozzies love of his country. If the manager of the Sox acknowledged his love of those "Bastions of Democracy Greece, Ireland or Italy, it would be no big deal. Ozzie had no choice of where he was born and for a kid that grew up in tough circumstances wanting to celebrate in his country to show that he "Made It" in America is normal.. I wish him well, he was always a HUGE fan of the C.P.D.

Finally, maybe they will bring in someone that can actually speak English so the non Spanish players can understand their manager. I would change the channel everytime the media would interview him because it was frustrating trying to understand him! I guess no more "I'll be back" speeches lmao!

I'm a big Ozzie fan, but his leaving was orchestrated by him, not the Sox. The Sox could not and should not match the length of contract and money that Florida is dangling, reportedly 4yrs/16million. The Sox could not make that kind of committment to a guy who has only won one playoff game since 2005. Some years he has had the tools, some he hasn't. Kenny is to blame for the past two seasons, Rios, Peavy, Dunn and Manny and giving up Hudson to rent Edwin Jackson were all bad moves. I wish you luck Ozzie, am grateful for the World Series for which you played a huge role in getting and grateful you appreciate CPD.

Not a Sox fan but live in a house of them. Seriously think about what Ozzie did for the police memorial by wearing that hat. ESPN showed him wearing that hat. You know what affect that had on people searching what that hat was and perhaps even helping out? I would think there was an uptick because of Ozzie.

I think you guys are wrong about Ozzie and Venezuela. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember Ozzie being very vocal in the media about how much he hated the Chavez regime how he is a tyrant. Also that the trophy was dedicated to the people of Venezuela, not the Chavez regime.

I never really cared for the guy, but I have to give him his props on the fact that almost every time that I saw him during the press conferences after the games, he was wearing some type of CPD hat or t-shirt, and it was usually a CPD Memorial t-shirt. He was quite outspoken, but was one of the few in the city that actually thought about US!

======================================================================

I originally disliked Ozzie because I THOUGHT he supported Hugo Chavez, until I found my belief was untrue. Ozzie supports the people of Venezuela, his birth country, but he does not support Venezuela's president, Hugo Chavez. That is why he wore the flag of his birth country and dedicated the World Series win to the people of Venezuela. He made no dedication to Chavez.

Even so, Ozzie not going to the White House with the team as the 2005 World Series Champions was very upsetting, although he did have long-standing vacation plans out of the country that he chose not to cancel.

But his support for the Chicago Police Department and wearing our hat at multiple press conferences, especially after Thor was murdered, makes him, all in all, a good guy. He will be missed by members of CPD that know the truth about him and good luck to him in Miami.

After being a Sox fan for 20 plus years, I'm considering the same until Reinsdorf comes to his senses and unloads Kenny Williams, who should have been fired 3-4 years ago.
