Cell Phones Are Dangerous
- Talking on a cell phone turned out to be the first of many charges lodged against an Englewood motorist who rammed a squad car — injuring a police officer — and fled the scene on the Near North Side early Sunday.
During a hearing Sunday, Judge Adam Bourgeois ordered Don Shedrick held on $30,000 bond, according to a Cook County Criminal Court clerk. Shedrick is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, according to the clerk.
Shedrick, 44, was behind the wheel of a 1999 Mercury Marquis at 3:15 a.m a. when police spotted him talking on a cell phone while driving near Oak and Clark streets, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
“He rammed the Mercury into the squad car, causing the squad car to hit a parked vehicle at 300 W. Institute Pl.,’’ said Mirabelli. One officer in the squad car he rammed was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.
But Shedrick continued to flee while other assisting officers gave chase. While in the 800 block of North Sedgwick Avenue, he exited the car and began running away on foot, but officers caught him, said Mirabelli.
Shedrick, of the 7700 block of South Laflin Street, was charged with aggravated fleeing while causing injury and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, the officer said. Both charges are felonies. He was also cited with driving while using a cell phone, damage to public property, driving on a revoked license and driving without insurance.

i bet that it was a gov issued cell phone.
And WTF was this savage doing there, you might ask? I'm sure he was simply on his way to attend Bible Study.
That dumb m-f didn't know that 862 Sedgwick and 412 Chicago were gone? Ha! Hope everyone's alright in 018.
In Englewood, a drivers license and insurance are optional.
He sounds like a Grade AAA asshole who forgot to wear his Reynolds Wrap turban, (aluminum foil if pookie is reading this).
Rham is going to give him a free bicycle.
Damn, I just love his picture. What he be about?
Crazy for a Mercury.....
This is a good example of why we shouldn't have to have the Ordinance violations signed by the offender. It provides them with an opportunity for confrontation with us and isn't necessary. Parking tickets are ordinances and don't require a signature. If they want to vent their frustrations towards us they can always receive their copy in the mail. Work smarter not harder.

Exactly !!! charged with the fleeing and all. BUT !! I'M sure as is always the case, you'll get to court and the stupid ass I just graduated from law school p.o.s. attorney will flip through the driving record and tell the judge NON-SUIT- ON THE TALKING ON THE CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING CHARGE. NON SUIT- ON THE DAMAGE TO PUBLIC PROPRTY, & A SLAP ON THE WRIST FOR THE DRIVING WHILE REVOKED AND A LECTURE ON HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE INSURANCE. Had it been one of us, we'd be made an example of .. but we'll have to collect the mandatory court fee.....
THANK GOD THE OFFICERS ARE OK!!
Oh yeah SCC I just submitted my rant to vent about how it will get Non Suited but i fogot to end it the way you wrote it.... As you labled it at the end and exactly what you stated is true, when it all goes to court
WE GOT NOTHING !!!!
driving is a priviledge, not a right--- thousands of people drive here everyday with no d/l, susp, revoked, bullshit plates, no insurance--- the city wants to close a bunch of lockups because their is nobody in them--- start housing these tvb's and sending them to court or they come up with a cash bond, no bullshit I-bond--- the jails will be full in no time and more people will start taking the bus....
"Or he was just a Grade-A asshole. Cops are OK though."
Occam's Razor continues to be a useful tool for the Police Officer.
Well put SCC, as usual.

What the F --K was dude doing driving around the Gold Coast area at 3:15 am, wait don't tell me, he wanted to be first in line to get his job application in somewhere, yeah right.
"He sounds like a Grade AAA asshole who forgot to wear his Reynolds Wrap turban, (aluminum foil if pookie is reading this)."
And "tin foil" if POs from 189 are reading this.
The guy works at Funky Buddha Lounge on Grand/Mil/Halsted....and a few other places as well. He was at work right before this happened. I work at a bar in the area and talked to him a handful of times. Aside from his appearance, which in person is intimidating, he was always pretty laid back and social. Crazy to hear he did all that. I don't know what would possess someone to ram a cop car and get in a chase over a few minor tickets.

Important man. Sure he was out at that hour inspecting his many Gold Coast investments and so forth.
He'll probably sue the police for "allowing him" to ram the squad. The sad thing is that the city would probably give him a settlement.
