Nickel and Diming
- A North Side alderman wants to scale back Mayor Emanuel’s $2-a-day “congestion fee” for parking in the city’s garages and lots, so that it only applies during weekday business hours when congestion is an issue.
Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) introduced the surprise ordinance at Wednesday’s City Council meeting, just weeks after Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s budget plan and $28 million “congestion fee” were unanimously approved by the aldermen.
Wait a minute....Tunney voted for the congestion fee before he was against the congestion fee? And what, pray tell, is his sudden objection?
- Tunney said it doesn’t make sense to charge the congestion fee 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when the city has invested millions of dollars in the theater district and is trying to encourage people to shop and dine downtown.
Well well well. You'd think a business owner and restaurateur would have realized that customers are kind of the point of even being in business. They provide profit to the business and tax money to the city. But he joined the other brain-dead idiots on the City Council in unanimously approving the additional fee.

OMG! A congestion fee when there's no congestion?
Next thing you know they'll be ticketing and towing cars on snow routes when there's no snow!
The Alderfools are... uh ... well... fools!
Why are the (night) restaurants and the theatres valuable, but the (day) shopping and museums and tourist attractions and offices and businesses aren't?
It makes NO sense.
Just another asshole trying to save face. Par for the course.
These motherfuckers are brain dead. First you chase out the big companies with a head tax, then you make parking so prohibitive that people will not even think of going downtown and now you want to tax the people even more. With the census reporting we have lost 200,000 people in the last ten years I guess this is just not turning into Detroit fast enough for you Communist bastards who would like to see everyone rising at 6am marching to the train, bus like north Korean soldiers and then marching back to the train or bus at 6pm. Fuck all yall.
How about the financial burden on citizens and business by DOUBLING the water rates by 2015. This also impacts the suburbs buying Chicago water. How the fuck these asshole Alderfools voted for this is beyond me. We all know most of that extra water revenue will just be pissed away on more worthless rat hole projects. In these tough economic times every penny hurts the average homeowner and small business. But the corrupt creeps at City Hall could care less. They have their own agenda. That agenda does not include our welfare.
As time goes on more and more citizens are going to understand just what the Daley Crime Family did to us for the last 20 years. These corrupt greedy Bastards bankrupted this city and now the new mutt in charge wants us to pay for it. Fuck Him and the Daley Crime Family. Why these sinsiter fucks are not behing bars is beyond me. I would like to see just regular citizens join in on the fun during the G8 Summit in May. What a party that would be.
Anyone who works anywhere but "Da Hood" is encountering tourists reading their parking tickets. And most of them will tell you they will never come back. Some of them are full of shit, but many if not most are telling the truth. They ain't coming back, and they are telling their neighbors to stay away. Chicago is becoming less attractive to tourists.

They already ticket/tow when there's no snow!!
If you want upscale suburbanites to drive into city and spend (spend big) money, then you can't make the experience so outrageously expensive. It costs $35 to park two hours in Nordstrom garage already, before you've even purchased your $150 Ugg gloves, $450 Kate Spade bag, and had your $150 lunch at a Mag Mile restaurant.
New York Times did an article on Chicago's Water Department, noting history of graft, phantom employees, and outrageous pay-scale for unskilled but connected laborors ($40/hr up). No wonder there's need for rate increase.
Why doesn't Water Dept shut-off water service to all those delinquent south suburban towns? How about the delinquent homeowners who are more than 1 year behind in their payments?
Chicago's problem is that it's become a three-tier system:
1) Corrupt politicians + rich folks; everything is paid by someone else. A lot of rich folks expense nearly all their living expenses; so do our aldermen and senior politicians.
2) Law-abiding sheepeople: current and paid-to-date on bills, tickets, taxes, tuitions, etc. Viewed as cash-register by politicians and mopes by their rich employers.
3) Underclass/scammer/ethically-challenged immigrants: Living large on public dole, petty criminality, and black market. Little interface w/government taxation, but often LINKed to all public subsidy programs nonetheless. Don't pay taxes, fees, etc. No valid driver license, insurance car, etc.
I'd appreciate stats on number of RE tax delinquencies for residential property in Chicago. Bet it's sky-high on west and south sides. A Cook County senior manager recently told me so.
Didn't people see this coming years
ago when the City started charging a Quarter to park for five minutes
at meters on Wabash Avenue ?
The only congestion in downtown Chicago is at the connected banks where poltically connected sinister greedy bastards are waiting in line to deposit their ill gotten gains from the city, county, and state coffers.
Why don't they enforce the address on the garage rule? Lots of ANOV's could be written on this.

No, that part makes perfect sense. During the weekdays, there are a bazillion office workers with their cars downtown and there is legitimate congestion. At night and on weekends (and outside the loop), that isn't such a problem.
What doesn't make sense is (like SCC said), Tunney voting FOR the original, then raising this afterwards.
Damned if you do, damed if you don't.
Pure
I live so far out we only got lake Michigan water in 2005.
Mr Emanuel should realize the city of Hammond is ready willing
And able to provide the same water to the suburbs if he gets
To cute. Don’t mind paying my share of a water distribution system
That is only fair. But we will not pay for water that flows to houses
And businesses for free.

Pay attention now. We know they already ticket/tow when there's no snow.
It's called irony.
i·ro·ny [ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-]
noun.
1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning...
Okay, are we caught up yet?
what's this i hear about the 44th ward getting split in two?
Get this; the tax applies to White Sox Parking. What a joke...
As time goes on Chicago will be a place that tourist and every day visitors will avoid. It is already too expensive to come to our great attractions and get reemed with fees, fines, and over priced goodies. There are plenty of other places to visit in other states and not get fucked in your wallet. Chicago is fast becoming Detroit.
