Remap Some Reductions

The Police Department is losing three districts and two detective areas in the ongoing remapping.

The Fire Department is rumored to be closing more than a couple of fire stations starting next year.

And the City Council?
  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he thinks aldermen will stay “laser-focused” on reaching agreement on a remap plan to keep taxpayers from financing an expensive court fight.

As WBBM Newsradio [...] reports, Mayor Emanuel says he is optimistic aldermen will agree – and the remap issue won’t have to be decided in court.

Two-hundred-thousand people left the city last decade, but we aren't seeing any sort of reduction in aldercreatures. 311 has lightened the actual need for many of the aldercreatures' ward functions, but Chicago maintains what we believe is the largest City Council in existence.

Shared sacrifice and all that? Don't make us laugh.

25 alderman is all the city really needs. It's only a part time job for most of the alderman anyway. Only guessing but cutting the alderman to 25 would save the city 4 million a year. But we know that will never happen, after all this is the windy city.

We can certainly survive with less alderman and the machine of clout jobs that each ward has. I don't think we can say the same for less police stations, less fire stations, less OEMC operators.

So what about less Wards?!

Now is the time. Cut the number of wards and cut the number of hacks and their flunky's running them

We're all in this together remember? Shared sacrafice

How about every time an alderthing gets indited the ward just gets absorbed by neighboring wards. We'd be down by half in a few years.

Racoon Eyes will continue to feed the AlderBeast when needed. Those 50 votes are always up for sale. As long as he takes care of them the city can and will go straight to hell. All the political assholes in this state care about is taking care of themselves and their families. We just pay the tab as usual.

Having mentioned reducing the size of the city council during his campaign, but NO LONGER threatening to reduce it, Tiny Dancer maintains the loyalty of the "frightened fifty", since none of them want to take a chance on being one of the guys to lose their seat and their million dollar, luxury existence.

The result? NOT ONE VOTE against the 2012 budget. It's perfect (the budget AND the strategy)!

Chicago should have no more than 17 council members based on per capita comparisons with cities of more than 1.5 million in population within the U.S. But we have 50 ALDERTHIEVES! This place is sickening by the way that the citizenry allows this to go on. Time to say enough is enough!

If the lil crook Rahm really wanted to save the city money he would support cutting the City Council down to about 15 alderman.
Imagine, 35 less thieves stuffing their pockets with our cash. It would be a win/win situatiuon for the city. The only down side will be another 35 witless, no skill, unemployables on food stamps and LINK.

If these Aldercreatures really wanted to be "representative" of the needs of the people in their Wards, the City should stop the gerrymanering of the wards just to insure the favored political idiot gets the aldermanic job. They should do what many of us have wanted - conform the Wards to the rough boundaries of the 25 Districts (soon to be a few less, but who's counting). Either way you'd have less Aldercreatures running around and they would be forced to earn their huge part-time salary. They would also be forced to answer to the residents of their ward because they "care" and actually want to be retained to do the job - rather than just trying to cater to a select few residents and do the bidding of the political power brokers in this city. Government would be much more accountable and the citizens would get better representation rather than their elected official catering to race preference, income status, political hookups/clout and graft. We would also realize a substantial savings from the reduction in aldermanic "gift packages" that include staffing allotments, office rent, city vehicle usage, salaries, and a whole host of perks and set asides that these worthless public servants receive that cost us in the form of taxes and fees.

I went to my alderman's office the other day to get some potholes repaired, stopping in since I was in the neighborhood on errands. The alderman's staff told me to go home and call 311. We don't need aldermen at all as far as I'm concerned.

If each ward by law has to have 52000 people, and the City lost 200,000, technically we should lose 4 alderman. It's a good start.

They will SAVE a lot more than $4Million. Each ward has a "fund" of about $1-$1.5 Million for "projects". They will save more like $30-$50 Million if they go down to 25.

Funny how Rahm has made no mention of reducing the council to 25. After all now would be the time such a reduction could be put into play without casuing any undo costs to the voting constituency who is having no say in these aldermanic negotiations.
Just a thought for the forgotten voters.

Tribune reported the remap, the Latinos and Blacks want to get majority of their ethnic votes, and screw any white ehnics as 53,000 down in flight from this city...but hey if they said white aldermen were trying the same stunt, it would be ever so racially motivated. We don t need more than 20 alderman jobs and they should be running where they live; and citizens should demand a blocksquared grid dividing city up by even amounts of citizens in each aldermanic ward...but hey I give up, selling after 60 yrs of waiting for decent political change. Unlike some, I vote every time and for the more honest political agenda or at least for the lesser of two evils. Arizona here I come, half the taxation for twice the home and fabulous city services...just want to get some of what I pay for. Shame on all the political hacks for ruining the city I never thought would be run into the ground. Retired CPD

As late as the 1930s, there were about 30-35 wards. If Chicago's current population is akin to the 1930s, then it's time for ward reductions.
