That time of year:
- This just overheard.
True to his Management Style in New Jersey and New York, G-Mac, with the just given approval from Tiny-Dancer 9.5, is going to rotate at least 10 District Commanders and 5 Unit Commanders by the beginning of the New Year.
He believes that no Commander should be in any one place too long. If your C.O. has been in place for three years or better say bye bye.
No idea if there's anything to it, but it helps to keep the bosses nervous.

So it takes many of these Commanders Years just to gain trust from some neighborhood groups and Alderman and the Superintendents answer to this is rotate Commanders. I'm just a P.O. And even from my point of view I can see this is a bad idea.
Hey Rahm, I think you should tighten the leash on this guy and tell him no way on this issue. It will save a lot of phone calls to your office in defense of these guys and gals, most of which are probably doing a good job!...

Angarone would gladly accept the trade. He spent time as an Lt in Narcotics, and loved it. They loved him too. 018 could do a lot worse than O'Grday. I don't see a loser in this scenario.

OT from HQ-Word is there is an inside think tank at HQ working on a plan to be able to move POs from one district to another and not by reverse seniority. They want to make everyone on this department accountable and if they think your not pulling your weight they will move you. Another way to circumvent the contract. HQ really gained momentum when the arbitrator allowed the cancellation of the May furlough due to G8 and NATO, along with HQs ability to close the districts and the areas, the cross training of all detectives because lack of performance will land you in SVU, the upcoming shuffling of the commanders, the new medical policy, and recently the circumvention of the contract with the new XO and station supervisor responsibilities. You will see the PES revamped and IAD will expand. This train wreck is moving full steam ahead.
Fine, have someone who never worked a real district come into our Westside Combat Zone and bring his/her entourage with 'em.
Things will go from will handled to hell in a few days or weeks.
It's just like Daley's and Rahm's plan that brought in Weis and McCarthy on this scale. Bring in an outsider hatchetman with orders to do the dirty work.
Next thing you know our new District Commanders, our what ever they want to call them will be retired NYPD people.
I kind of like that rule. It keeps them from getting too cozy with the reverends.

Another stupid idea. To change things just to change them is a ridiculous management style. If it's broken, fix it. Dump some people. If it's working, leave it alone.
This is actually a good idea and should be applied to everyone on the Department. There are way too many officers who have no idea what being the police in another part of the City means. Working in 019 or now 023 is different than working in 007 or 003. When you have experienced the differences and diversity of our great City it will serve to unify us against the Political Machine that has divided us.

Oh dear god
As of 3 January 2012 the "position of Desk Sergeant" is eliminated.
The department has not come out with an order which will now explain how the desk duties will be done however no one will be getting OUT OF GRADE pay.
I hope 15 gets a commander who gives a shit. Green's been here for 5 yrs, I think I've seen him maybe 3x. Say what you want about Wysinger, he was in every roll call on every Friday and was on the streets on the week ends. That doesn't make someone a great leader but at least he was visible and showed appreciation. Now go screw yourself.

That makes no sense at all.,018 dist Commander is the 1st and only Commander I've sense in 25 years who actually talks and works on a street level with his troops. Ridiculous! The best way to know your troops is by being in the same place! If you get bounced from place to place you don't know who the "dogs" are that you have to watch and who the "go to" people are that you can rely on! this is asinine! The job is run much more efficiently when you have the right people in the correct spots--and the only way to achieve this is by knowing who the right people are! Who is the moron that thought this idea up!!
Good. this should be done. And if the comment about Caruthers going to 020 is correct, then good, That should be done also. It is about time black commanders are assigned to white districts and white commanders assigned to black districts and stop always sending the hispanic to majority hispanic districts. Spread everyone around, not based on race. I don't care if every white district has a black commander as long as they are qualified. I say rotate these guys/gals every few years.
This is silly in my opinion and yet another move that serves no useful purpose. Practically all commanders have been in their spots for over 3 years. What use is it to move them just because? If they are doing a good job what is the reason to move them? If they are doing a bad job why would you want to transfer those bad habits to another place for that to be ruined too? I just don't get it. We keep getting Superintendents that want to change things for change sake. If they are so concerned about efficiency of the ranks, this is a very questionable way to achieve efficiency.
WTF.... lets just throw a few idiots in an important position, forget about units pro-active, forget about morale, lets just keep trashing everything...
I agree about Green. Been in 15 way too long. He should be sent to Darien with his crayola crime partner Brown.

If you want to do something really useful & practical, make exempts push a beat car one day a year.
Let them drive the pool car no one wants, work with the sometimes questionable equipment we have, make an arrest within the orders and laws that we deal with every day. Let them get a taste of a visit with IPRA after having to fight with some doped-up idiot.
Most of them are so far out of touch, their head will spin. Many of them were never the police, so it will be even more amusing to watch them put the cuffs on somebody.
It would go a long way toward streamlining our operations and might even make our job easier.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner, folks! He was a great boss to work for before he became the commander. Nowhere near as approachable as in the past, and always seems to be on edge. Every boss owes something to his maker, and Angarone continues to accept incompetent supervisors that are pushed on him by Georgas. Ask around about how he's been avoiding a tact sergeant since May that he allowed to be dumped so that Georgas could put his guy in charge of a team. Angarone went out of his way to avoid explaining the decision, and has been putting his head in the sand to avoid knowing what is really going on in his district.

Yes sir great suggestion. They get 80% or better and their overtime is calculated into their pension as well. Why do we only get dicked with the ineffective stuff? Why not give us the good stuff too? We get the worst of civilian pension reform, then the worst of another dept we are to emulate. Why don't they just fire everyone, abolish the police dept and set up a rent a cop operation?

They said 10 District Commanders. There are (currently) 25. That leaves 15. Do you honestly believe they will touch the west side?

Angarone was my Lt in Narcotics. Great boss. Hit the streets with his teams. Made stops with us. Threw jags on the wall with us. Cuffed jags with us. Went through doors on search warrants with us. Was generous with time on o.t. slips. Backed us to the fullest. I'd have a hard time believing some the shit I'm reading about him here. In fact, I don't believe it. If we ever had to lose OGrady, who's a great Commander, nobody in 189 would complain if Angarone taking his place.

they can move Anyone for 90 days, and then have to send them back from the Unit they were Assigned/Bid to.
Then (I think) after 5 shifts, they can TAD that same person for another 90 days.
Rinse and Repeat...no CBA violation.

Odonnell was put in 018 by Cline as a favor to Hillard. Then Cline realized Odonnell was an absentee commander, who bragged about it. Cline, being kind to Hillard, moved Odonnell to Vice, where he once again was an absentee commander, and bragged about it again. Petersen is the one who launched Odonnell when Weis came, because of that. Is Odonnell a nice guy - maybe yea, but definitely not a working leader.

If it sucks so bad, get out now before you invest more time here --It is only going to get worse.

At least the Cmdr of 009 is out there riding on jobs, other Bosses don't even listen to the radio! Besides Jarmusz was a gang Detective in 009 (Old Area 3) back in the day and I would rather have him back me up than majority of the coppers on 009.
