Snickers Returns
- Following a legal battle, a retired Chicago police officer is reunited with his dog in Iowa.
Days after Jim Sak moved to Aurelia, Iowa, to be near his ailing mother, a meter reader reported Sak and his wife to city officials because their dog looked like a pit bull. Aurelia has a ban on all pit bulls.
Snickers is a service dog. Sak suffered a stroke in 2008 and counts on his pet to keep him safe.
He sued the town to get his dog back and won.
Wednesday, Snickers was back home with his family.
Thanks to everyone who signed the petition and called Jim with expressions of support.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A federal judge has ruled an Aurelia couple can have their dog back.
The Sioux City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/t7ViKl ) U.S. District Judge Mark Bennett ruled in favor of James Sak and Peggy Leifer Wednesday, ruling the city of Aurelia failed to show it would suffer substantial harm by the couple’s dog, a pit bull named Snickers, a pit bull, lab boxer mix and a certified service animal.
A city ordinance bans pit bulls but the couple argued the dog acts as a service dog for Sak, who has been disabled since a 2008 stroke. They sought an injunction claiming Snickers should be exempt from the city’s ban.
OT...heard CPD collared a suspect who was in a hit and run that critically injured a Milwaukee officer over the weekend
Good news being reported on scc?? Yes, yes I think I like these feel good stories. Keep up the fine work scc. I love happy endings!(get your mind out of the gutter, not those kinds of happy endings.. well, sort of those too I suppose).
I sent a jar of chunky peanut butter. Is it wrong?
Great story ending going into the holiday weekend and glad it was resolved so quickly. Woof.

Now sue the city for legal fees he spent, and for undue stress.
He won..for now..if the mayor doesn't like it all he has to do is keep appealing the case until he gets a judge that sees things his way.
That's how the big cities do it!
One for the good guys!!!!
I wish this would of been on an episode of "Judge Judy". Snickers would of been sworn in and testified
You can only own cows and sheep in Iowa. Ask any farmer about sheep. They're great service animals.
Awesome. F u nanny state

Spoken like a true ghetto lottery rat. The copper fought the battle and won. Good for him and the people that helped.

Happy to hear cooler heads prevailed! Sorry you still have to live in that shitty state....
What a bunch of morons in that town. Your city ordinance does not trump federal law.

Same type morons in this town who've given us the "Sanctuary City."
Cut off Chicago's federal funding until it comes around.
