First Amendment Anyone?

  • The New Orleans police department has suspended an officer under who is currently under investigation for a fatal police-involved shooting for posting that Trayvon Martin "acted like a thug" and deserved to "die like one" in a comment on a news website.

So the New Orleans PD suspended an officer for making a comment on a case that isn't even in their jurisdiction? On a news site that isn't in any way associated with the New Orleans PD?

And as more and more of the truth comes out (the "victim" dealt drugs, the "victim" was suspended for ten days for drugs, the "victim" had a twitter account where people congratulated him for beating up a bus driver, the "victim" had gang tattoos, the "victim" had gold grilles at 17 with no job, the "victim" was the aggressor in the confrontation, the "victim's" mother is trademarking his name, etc.) the New Orleans PD brass is in the unenviable position of having violated an officer's First Amendment rights for simply telling the truth.

Things that make you go "Hmmmmm."

Freedom of speech is OUR right and WE will not be intimidated by a general order to hush US from speaking the TRUTH. Many of US have served OUR once proud country with nothing but good intentions and given OUR all to protect this city and country with OUR lives. WE are not intimidated by threats by corrupt politicians who try to silence the truth of criminal behavior by said politicians. NATO is coming and this is OUR time to let the powers that be ( RAHM) and (OBAMA) know that WE, the middle class, will no longer be stifled. There are more of US than them...the time to take s stand is now. Veterans, citizens that are sick of the direction this country is headed with the blatant CORRUPTION of politics PLEASE stand point. When the citizens are intimidated to post their views on a blog then there truly is a problem with this country...this is not IRAN or is it?

Hey, you forgot about the big hero, Mr. Zimmerman! Guess what he got pinched for a few years back? Assaulting a fucking POLICE OFFICER, ended up copping a plea to resisting.

I don't pretend to know what really happened the night the kid died, but old Zimmerman's past sure raises a few red flags.

Let's wait and see what shakes out before pinning a medal on Zimmerman.

I think there are limits to free speech for cops. Did this officer push past those limits? No.

He did show poor judgment. Just post anonymously.

Like for instance if I were to suggest that Superintendent McCheese has anger issues I wouldn't use my real name.

I'd use something silly like "Frank Gorshin" or "The Riddler".

Some of the mainstream media was doing a huge back peddle last night on this kid Trayvon as more facts come out.

This HUGE "cause" seems like it's backfiring after all the the big names came out to jump on the bandwagon.

It "was" a great story to energize an apathetic base for the election, but now it looks like it is fizzling worse than cheap Chinese fireworks.

Zimmerman seems like another tragic figure like Richard Jewell but maybe he will have the last laugh when he wins the ghetto lottery with the news media instead of Trayvon's parents.

However, unlike the rabble rousers and the prejudiced media many of us are waiting for ALL the facts to come in before rendering a decision. An employer may hold an employee accountable for what the employee says on any social media.

Yes you have rights!

But your rights do not pay your bills. Do they?

Now this officer will have to find legal representation and fight this in the courts and media.
Does anyone think ACLU will aid in this officers defense. Keep dreaming!

No pay while being suspended. Can anyone afford this?

Sounds like the new General Order on social media.........
You have rights but you can also be punished for violation of the Department rule.

Do as I say not as I do is the new rule. Sit down and shut up....

I hope this officer or his Union puts up a web site so funds can be sent to aid in his fight of this matter

I don't think anyone is looking to pin a medal on Zimmerman, just making sure his CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS are not stepped on. Liberals biggest downfall is not their opinion or their rights, which they are entitled to both. Liberals biggest downfall is that they believe that their opinions and rights are the only ones that are correct and that everyone who disagrees with them is wrong or evil etc. You have a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to protect your life, especially while someone is on top of you pummeling the shit out of you because you called the police on him. He was in fear for his life, and Trayvon's actions put him reasonably in fear of his life. It is not against the law to shoot someone who is unarmed if someone is on top of you beating you. People are beat to death every day. This case will most likely not be charged and if it is will not be convicted. They are in Florida, not Cook County, they are aware that the Constitution exists down there.

It's interesting to see that the mainstream media has caught up to this - the front page of Yahoo has a big article that references & links to the piece by the Wagist, as well as other sites that have started to expose Trayvon for what he was.

It's also interesting to see how opportunistic the family is. They immediately hired an attorney, who intimidated the school districts (both the one he was expelled from, and current one from which he was suspended when he attacked George Zimmerman from behind) into sealing all of his disciplinary records. They've also applied to trademark his name, his picture (of course the cute one as a 12 year old, not the ones of him at age 17 with tattoos, gold teeth, shirtless posing and flashing money, etc), and expressions like, "I am Trayvon," and "Justice for Trayvon."

It's also interesting to note other way's they're being opportunistic - for example, his mom told the press, "First they killed my baby, now they're trying to kill his reputation," in response to questions that the police may have leaked the story that he was on suspension for possession of drugs in the school. She then followed that up by stating - "They will pay."

So mom is looking to cash in on his likeness from all the sheep who want to buy t-shirts with his name & picture, and has already put out there that she is willing to sue the local PD for slandering his "memory," because she believes they leaked the story about his drug dealing. But of course, there's no word on whether she'll sue his brother/cousin, whose facebook messages about Trayvon beating up a bus driver have become public. But I’m sure if it was a school administrator, ie, someone with insurance & deep pockets, whose facebook messages were revealed, she’d be all up in arms & calling for a suit against him.

Lastly, I find it interesting that for several weeks, mainstream media ignored the interviews with witnesses who said Trayvon was assaulting Zimmerman when he got shot, and also ignored the police statement that Zimmerman was injured & treated medically, and his injuries and state he was found in are consistent with his story that Trayvon jumped & assaulted him. Only now, as the national backlash against the Trayvon golddiggers has emerged, have those interviews from the day of the shooting, as well as the police statements, become part of the national dialogue.

I just hope that Zimmerman can track down whomever made the t-shirts with his picture, name, home address, and phone number (along with the captions of “White Trash,” “Murdering Racist,” etc), and sue the shit out of them for slander.

The officer used poor judgment. He was involved in a fatal police shooting and comments on a site and identifies himself as an officer for that department. I don't think that is protected free speech because he identified himself as an officer and cannot speak on behalf of his department. Essentially he represented the department without permission. It would have been protected free speech if he spoke as a citizen and not as an officer.

They have to be careful -- despite being unarmed, there's a mean-looking squint developing as you go along. That's where they stopped.

No unarmed 6'3" 17-year-old with gold fronts and hat on backwards, not here.

This is probably why it took a month for this to reach the public eye -- everyone was busy lining up unarmed trademark attorneys, etc.

From Wikipedia;
The New Black Panther Party (NBPP), whose formal name is the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, is a U.S.-based black political organization founded in Dallas, Texas in 1989. Despite its name, NBPP is not an official successor to the Black Panther Party.[1] Members of the original Black Panther Party have insisted that the newer party is illegitimate and have firmly declared that "there is no new Black Panther Party".[1] The Anti-Defamation League, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights consider the New Black Panthers to be a hate group.

Well that's that...

Remember the New Black Panther guy who offered a $10,000 "reward" for the unlawful kidnapping of Zimmerman on national television? He was busted for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm in Georgia yesterday.

Incidentally, his bond was set at.... wait for it..... $10,000.

According to a DeKalb arrest warrant, Nzinga was in possession of an FN Herstal 5.7 x 28 handgun, which investigators said he pawned at a shop on Rockbridge Road. That alleged transaction would be illegal due to Nzinga’s convictions last month for felony deposit account fraud in Gwinnett County, the DeKalb Sheriff's Office said.

The Herstal 5.7 x 28 is a semi-automatic handgun that can hold 20 rounds. It was the same type of gun used by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan in the Fort Hood shootings in which 11 people were killed in November 2009.

Nzinga was arrested by members of the fugitive squad at a probation office in Lawrenceville and transported to DeKalb County Jail.

Three sides to every story. The fact is this doped up 6'3" thug punched him in the face and was pounding his head on the sidewalk when he fired the fatal shot. Zimmerman was walking back to his car when this animal attacked him.

Just heard on Fox news from Bill O'Reily that Spike Lee has given out Zimmerman's home address. Unbelievable.

Why do Whites cower when racial comments are spewn from race baiters mouths. Could any white politician say vote for Gingrich or Romney because he is white? If you take half the comments bantered about as is the norm in the press, have a white person say them, they would be labled a racist and the shunned by their own race. When will this change.

One more thing to the so called educated talking heads, it's not reverse discrimination, it's just discrimination. The heads make it seem as if discrimination can only be white on black. If it's black on white somehow it gets mislabled as reverse discrimination. Read the definition, it doesn't specify a race.

Regarding Zimmerman and Trevon. If need be let him have his day in court but the press is irresponsible for convicting him in the media.

Nice traffic jam on Ogden today because of all the goofs with signs and hoodies marching right down Ogden towards 010th dist. Did these fine upstanding youth march when a M/1 shot our Officer Flisk? Did Father Faker, Al lap band Sharpton or Jessie Jax have a public outcry? They can all go Fu** themselves. That alone shows it's for the press attention. The good people know what the bottom line is on these media whores.

Geez once again lets get everyone all wound up on a punk who, from what is coming out, was smashing the guys head in, as a poor misguided kid who was going to be a schoolastic wonder and such a great addition to humanity....

The vultures Jackson and Sharpton, even, Yobama, ( who I thought learn his lesson running his mouth too fast)just can't wait to start shit and make threats...

Wow

First The freedom of speech thing is not absolute

Second There is case l aw which allows an PD employer to discipline a PD employee when that employee brings discredit upon the department by making public comments and letting it be known that he is an employee

Third The officer wasnt jailed or fined. he was just disciplined at work.

Like it or not I think the NOPD may be on solid ground in this case.

Police: Zimmerman says Trayvon decked him with one blow then began hammering his head

7:36 p.m. EST, March 26, 2012

By Rene Stutzman, Orlando Sentinel

"With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk, leaving him bloody and battered, law-enforcement authorities told the Orlando Sentinel.

"That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say. There have been no reports that a witness saw the initial punch Zimmerman told police about.

"Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened Feb. 26. But that night, and in later meetings, he described and re-enacted for police what he says took place.

"In his version of events, Zimmerman had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words and then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.

"Zimmerman told police he shot the teenager in self-defense..."

Good long story, read the link --

Did any of you guy's read the NOLA article posted by Anonymous at 5:49 p.m. 3/27?

Apparently the officer who was suspended for posting "Act like a Thug Die like one!" was actually under investigation for shooting a young black male at the time he posted that. And his post stated he was NOPD right there next to his name because it was a facebook comment section.

Sorry, but he deserved getting suspended. Good for him taking responsibility for his stupidity and resigning, though.

Dummy....shouldn't have posted that on his own
personal FB page. We don't have the same rights
as citizens, and most of us are well aware of it
when we make the decision of pursuing a career
in law enforcement.

This is just crazy and that's why every time our characters get dragged around for false allegations and we survive the criminals' BS, we have to have the FOP sue and for the FOP to stop brushing us off when we ask them to.

"The 5.7 x 28mm round is highly effective against body armour at ranges up to 200m but the ammunition also has a high incapacitation effect...once it strikes it tends to tumble.. produces a large wound cavity and high-energy transfer..."
