CeaseFire to Get Money

We guess you can write off a few million more tax dollars:
  • Following a bloody Memorial Day weekend in Chicago, police Supt. Garry McCarthy on Tuesday defended his efforts to stop retaliatory shootings — and said the Chicago Police Department will enlist CeaseFire Illinois for the first time to help.

Ten people were shot to death over the weekend and the city’s 2012 homicide tally reached 200 on Sunday, a nearly 50 percent increase over the same period of 2011.

Experts have several theories for the spike — from this year’s record-breaking warmth, to the splintering of Chicago’s street gangs thanks to the prosecutions of their leaders to lax gun possession enforcement.

There's a reason the CPD has kept CeaseFire at a distance and now McCarthy is being told to embrace them? Not a good idea at all.

The biggest reason for the shootings is because Daley dismembered their established living quarters and scattered them throughout the city. This caused rival gangs and rival drug dealers to re-establish gang boundaries. No rocket-scientists needed here. One more thing the gangs are not being run from the prisons anymore, shorty gang bang has become freelance. No control, no fear of leadership. F*ck Cease-Fire, pay me for my professional insight. More than a quarter century wheel gun vet.

Now we're taking tax payer money to pay for "protection" to the gangs. Cease Fire are gangbangers, receiving federal money to talk to other gang bangers. The killings wont stop, but the gangbangers get rich and keep voting. Hows about something novel...hire police and pay them!!!

Just like in the 60's, the government gave money to the Blackstone Rangers, which later evolved into the Black Stone Nation:

Bobby Rush (a Black Panther) taught CeaseFire to do the white man's bidding, and you'll be rewarded with tax money

You may criticize the previous statements, but the point is:

Giving [former] gang members money for b.s. mediation is just another scam, another hustle-- a legit hustle-- for these "former" gang members.

CeaseFire is a joke... ....they can claim they prevented violence, but nothing will stop the hyper-predators that are running the streets.

Maybe if they are out there in the street well dressed with their penny loafers then maybe crime would go down.

This is what it was always about - taxpayer MONEY for the ex-con gangbangers. After all their drug spots have been shut down - NOT! They want their appeasement money.

Rahm not hiring police officers (can't have a record for that) hiring thugs instead. A little like the old barn boss idea at the jails many years ago - put the baddest cons up to enforce. May have some short term gain (quiet BEFORE the election)but there will be a terrible price to pay long-term. A little like Neville Chamberlin trying to appease Hitler before the start of WWII.

I personally think they are letting the numbers run away so they can blame guns and then say, "well, that goddam supreme court lifted our unconstitutional ban and now look at all the violence!" and then enact more draconian shit that only affects the law-abiding (and comes with a FEE, which will start out minimal and then increase).

They already have that BS $125 tax which is unconstitutional in itself. It'll get worse. It behooves them to just leave well enough alone and go after people using illegal guns for crimes.

Also, no one wants to talk about that elephant in the room and why this sort of violence doesn't happen in places like Edison Park, Norwood Park, or Mt. Greenwood.

The University of Chicago Crime Lab seeks to improve our understanding of how to reduce crime and violence by helping government agencies and non-profit organizations rigorously evaluate new pilot programs. In many ways our aspirations are similar to that of the Adbul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, which in just a few years has become a world leader in using experimentation to identify ways of reducing poverty and improving health in the developing world, but our focus is closer to home. The Crime Lab began in April 2008 in partnership with the City of Chicago, and has been made possible by generous seed funding from the Joyce Foundation, the University of Chicago Office of the Provost, and the School of Social Service Administration through the Center for Health Administration Studies.

Among the Crime Lab’s ongoing projects is the Chicago Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence Among School Age Youth. Our recent "design competition" identified one promising project, out of more than 30 applications, that has the potential to reduce youth gun violence in Chicago. This initiative is currently being implemented in schools around Chicago. The Crime Lab will rigorously evaluate the results of the program after its completion.

The Crime Lab’s focus is not exclusive to Chicago or the problem of gun violence. Ongoing or recently completed projects by Crime Lab members include studies of adult re-entry programs in Chicago and Milwaukee, targeted “hot spot” policing programs in Massachusetts, and a “coerced abstinence” drug testing and sanctions program for probationers in Hawaii.
====================================================================

The above is verbatim from the Univ. of Chicago website.

Crime Lab my ass! You couldn't get farther from a real Crime Lab if you tried.

This is just another bullshit collection of academics getting grants and taxpayer money.

It's no wonder that these so-called "crime reduction initiatives" don't work. Nice going, Mc Stupid.

Guys and gals, check out the rest on the University website.

The only city close to as messed up with it's handling of black gangs is Baltimore, which is also a clusterfuck. And even there, I doubt they would create, enable, and fund an "organization" made up of gang members, whose design is to curb gang violence.

Oh, jeez. This goes back a ways, doesn't it?

The Man Behind The Scenes of the whole thing is a DR. GARY SLUTKIN. CeaseFire is his operation.

"Original funding for CeaseFire came from contributions from federal and state grants, as well as from local foundations and corporations, totaling a $6.2 million budget for 2005 and $9.4 million for 2006. In 2007, Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich discontinued funding, dropping CeaseFire’s budget to $3.2 million.

"Currently, CeaseFire operates with funding from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which awarded CeaseFire a grant of $1.8 million for May 2007 to June 2012."

It's extortion and this mayor and this supt. are fools if they go through with it. It's like the federal government giving money to Pakistan, our partner (wink, wink). I would rather you spend my tax dollars passing truth in sentencing laws, building more prisons, hiring more guards, and start locking these people up and keeping them there. Since none of these criminals work, we the citizen are paying their way anyway. Welfare, disability, everybody's getting a free check and the working taxpayer has to pay for it, id rather pay to remove them from the rest of the law abiding public once and for all. There should be consequences not rewards. This will backfire and if there are any real reporters left they should investigate those who belong to ceasefire and expose exactly who we the taxpayer are funding. I cannot stand Chicago, or Illinois for that matter, we have the most incompetent people in power and they have destroyed the place I was once proud to call home and a once proud police department.

Next, lets pay these savages to take care of their kids.
Bottom line here is that there is a total lack of parenting in the ghetto combined with the fact that many of these "parents" are gang banging pieces of shit themselves and are only passing along what they know. Nothing is going to change this. Throwing money at them only made it worse, it succeeded in buying votes, but nothing else. The only way this is going to change is if the black and hispanic communities stop acting like victims and take responsibilty for the problems in their communities. Won't happen in our life times because acting like victims justifies not having a job, not taking care of their children and not being productive members of society. There is no police solution to this violence. The ghetto is already saturated with police and it hasn't changed a thing. It must come from within, and because of that nothing will change. Certainly not repackaged "strategies" that our merit leaders keep presenting to the Sup. You want real strategies? Stop asking merit hacks who have no clue. Ask the ground pounders. But then a real leader would have known that already. Going to Cease Fire is our "leadership" waving the white flag. Time to strip the upper ranks. Remove all the bosses who ever received a merit promotion and replace them with people who have worked the street their entire lives. That is my strategy for combating this gang violence, we as a department have been and are suffering from a lack of effective leadership. Politics and policing do not mix. We are the poster children for that failure.

Possibly the ONLY thing that former Superintendent Brzeczak (sp? )did right was that he DID NOT give ANY recognition to the Guardian Angels organization.

The reason is that if the G-A, who often acted like a street gang themselves did anything the city, the taxpayers, YOU AND ME would be on the financial hook to potentially millions for whatever they did.

Now CEASEFIRE, former gangbangers will get city (our tax dollars) Rahm and McGeneralissimo will get photo ops to get votes and people to work next election.

Jesse Jackson stole an entire Budweiser distributorship for his son and got away with it. Busch Brewing gave it to him to stop a nationwide boycott of Budweiser products. Since then it has been the most poorly run and unprofitable Budweiser Distributorship in the United States.

You would think that a beer vendor with exclusive territory in Chicago would simply print money till the presses wore out, what with this being a beer drinking town with two baseball teams, an NFL team, a hockey and basketball team and all.

Well, just put the Jackson Family in charge and they will show you how not to make money selling beer in Chicago. Ask Area 3 Financial Crimes Detectives how many times insiders there have embezzled from the company, then had the investigation killed lest bad publicity get out.

Remember all those gladiator fights were about displacing audience's physical aggression with stage performance fights. Ultimately Rome failed, but Rome certainly had a number of still valid civic administration ideas. LINK and Ceasefire aren't enough; these guys need to be entertained to keep them from criminal mischief. They're BORED, and need their days/nights filled because they can't work (lack of education plus criminal record)and their baby-momas and momas get tired of them hanging around the house. Trouble occurs when they hit the streeets. No amount of policing will end this problem.

Fuck ceasefire. When I was in 006 we had an incident where an offender ran into ceasefire after an aggravated battery and ceasefire tried to hide the fucker. We ended up getting into it with the dumb fuckers but ultimately got the shithead.

I have a theory SCC.... Ceasefire is like the movie "The Warriors"....... Basically all the gangs shake down the city and county, and state for more Ceasefire funding in exchange for a decrease in gang violence, the stats go down, the idiot public sees improvement and Tiny Dancer and McDrunken look like they have accomplished their mission all the while Ceasefire is getting aid to have the bangers slow down, public funds find their way to the the
Leaders.......Just thinking out loud......

NO MONEY for police raises but a multi million dollar pay off for all the GANGBANGERS in ceasefire.

5/30/2012 04:44:00 PM<<<

GANGBANGERS =Democratic VOTES + Campaign* $$$ for Politicians

POLICE = Republican Votes + Greedy Pensions + Scandals for Politicians

Register and Vote

(* Remember when a politician retires, he/she keeps the campaign funds, they just have to pay the taxes on it.)

politicians & these thugs get along/work so well together because they both believe that they are "entitled" to every cent they can steal from the tax payer.

Yesterdays "Thug" can be todays congressperson, etc.......

Cooperation among thieves is essential to $$ success.

We dont have money for safe city this year...to put more police on the street?

Or is that the money we are using to pay off thugs..to ask their members not to shoot at each other?

So that is Macs crime reduction strategy, give to thugs not the police..

THIS GUY IS A REAL GENIUS!

Thought id never say it but BRING BACK JODI!

"But CeaseFire founder Gary Slutkin said the group has expanded to other U.S. and foreign cities — and its practices have been accepted in all of those places

These guys are heavily trained,” he said of CeaseFire workers. “No one goes out without at least 40 hours.”

$$$$

Hey Gary - 40 whole hours IS NOT HEAVILY TRAINED!

Yet the Chicago Police Department wants every officer to violate the Rules and Regulations by interacting in a work environment with convicted felons.

What a crock of crap.

Hey Rahm -
Be careful who you choose to get into bed with.

This was sent from Headquaters back in March of 2011, pre-McCarthy:

Subject: Ceasefire

We have received several inquiries in regards to the Chicago Police Department’s relationship with CeaseFire.

CeaseFire’s mission is to work with community-based organizations to develop and implement strategies to reduce and prevent violence, particularly shootings and killings. CeaseFire relies on outreach workers and violence interrupters, who are ‘streetwise individuals’ that are familiar with the gang life in the communities where CeaseFire is active.  CeaseFire has claimed tremendous success in their endeavors.

The Chicago Police Department has worked diligently to enforce the law and to protect our citizens.  We have established a number of anti-violence initiatives, and our officers have been very successful in driving down crime.  While we encourage the efforts of others to reduce violence, we have communicated the following to CeaseFire:

The Chicago Police Department applauds CeaseFire’s mission, but we cannot currently stand in partnership with CeaseFire.  A true partnership means constant communication, and CeaseFire’s refusal to discuss life-threatening information with law enforcement is a deal-breaker.  Additionally, there have been numerous incidents involving active CeaseFire members that cause a conflict of interest in both policy, and in our duties as law enforcement officers.  Therefore, we can't claim a partnership because there are times when some CeaseFire employees become part of our investigations, and that makes for a bad situation.  However, we do believe their management staff really wants to do the right thing, so we are not opposed to their efforts.  Simply put, we will not partner with CeaseFire, we will simply co-exist.

Be safe out there!
