Dumb Poll Questions

  • Sixty-four percent of Chicagoans approve of the job Mayor Rahm Emanuel is doing, 57 percent believe he has improved the city’s business climate, and 78 percent like the way Emanuel handled the NATO summit, a new poll shows.

They clarify later:

  • The Chicago Police Department’s highly acclaimed performance during the NATO summit also reflected well on the mayor.

Asked how Emanuel handled the summit, 55.5 percent said he did a “great job” and 23.3 percent credited the mayor with doing a “good job.” That’s an overall approval rate of 78.8 percent.

We didn't see much TV during the event, but was Rahm even in town? Nice to see he's bathing in "reflected" glory while he sharpens the long knives.

Rahmbo was persona non grata media wise during the NATO summit.

I'm unsure of the reason, but he was largely unseen. Methinks it was because he was too busy sucking up to world leaders and big money donors.

My guess is that one day he sees himself as being the first 9.5 fingered President.

Hahahah.. the people that think Rahm is doing a good job must be the same people that believe that the taxpayers are not paying for anything for the NATO summit.

Wait until the teacher layoffs, the clinic closures, the healthcare cuts and the pension COLA eliminations kick in. Let's revisit this poll when that happens.

What they don't tell you is who the audience was that they polled? The top one percent? All the business owners with the tax breaks that are hoping to benefit from the party?

The way these people pull numbers out of a hat I don't buy any of it.

This is what you get when an equal or greater percentage of the 'officers' at NATO weren't smart enough to realize that shaking stubs and posing for pictures with 9-Point-5 was merely a photo-op created to bolster his image and justify his continued decimation of the CPD.

Divide and conquer. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Rahm knows all the tricks. And he's loving the fact that he's in control at the present time; the department is heavily populated by easily scared and highly impressionable Hair Gels that are afraid to make waves and seem to enjoy having other people make up their minds for them.

Now go write a few more Parkers and impound a couple more cars. Rahm swears he'll put that revenue into the pension funds...right after he and McViolenceStrategy get a handle on this little gang problem thingy..

The Evil Racoon was very busy schmoozing with the Obama's and other world leaders. He wanted to show he has the management skills to run a big government. 2016 isn't that far away. Clinton/Racoon national Democrat ticket? In the meantime his cops were being pelted with rocks, shit, piss, and anything else that could be tossed at them. Somebody had to get the glory. It was all RACOON.

Rahm had a lucky horseshoe up his ass. The protesters were minimal, because those assholes had spread themselves to thin. Oakland, new york, toronto, seattle, they couldnt bus themselves fast enough and their ranks were slowly decimated by LEO in those cities. Thats why he had the smile of someone who just farted on their first date. Thank G-d for the fighting men/women of CPD and their glowing professionalism that showcased the heart of every blue and some white shirt. Sorry, Mccarthys showcase of walking around like a rooster behind the troops did not impress. He knew the blue line was there despite the bs he and the rahm cabal reigns on them. So please remember they were privy to all sources of information, while you holding the line, were not. Yet, your love for the job showed and the protesters went home. Rahm, his media minions, and this politician/superintendent can never take the credit, the world was watching and the CPD made every chicagoan, here and abroad, Proud.

There was a guy on SWAT who wanted to do a poll on morale. He was beefing about how morale sucks in the unit. He's got like 5 years on. He put a survey in everyones mailbox. Keep in mind there's 60 guys in the unit. 7 returned them back to him and said there morale was low. I am so sick and tired of this sense of entitlement with themes guys on the job. Wwwwaaaaaas. Crying little babies who want everything handed to them. Give me a break with polls and surveys.

HOW could business people state Emanuel is 'good for business'?

Maybe for giant corporations, with all the give backs, the enticements, the entitlements, the rebates, the tax breaks... but for the little guy?

The little guy who's had a sign hanging over the sidewalk for twenty years suddenly gets a fine and an order to remove that suddenly 'illegal' sign.

The little guy whose business license fees double without notice. The little guy who becomes liable for the building owner's code violations? The little guy who gets a hearing in front of a very PARTIAL, clouted 'hearing officer' and has to pay a kangaroo court fine and 'hearing costs', which double the fine. The little guy who has to put a security buzzer on the front door of his little neighborhood shop?

The little guys are leaving the city in droves. They are heading for friendlier climates, where parking is reasonably priced and readily available. They want to run their businesses in areas that are safe and visibly policed. They want to operate free of political blackmail and opressive taxation.

Seriously, was this poll conducted using only multi-million dollar, connected, business representatives? Maybe they couldn't FIND any little guys to take part in the poll, since they've all fled Chicago.

Off-topic - What is this b.s. that small businesses are now being forced to pay for the parking meter revenue that was lost during NATOfest? Nice move, Rahm.

Did you notice that nothing has been said about reforming the big fat pensions of the General Assembly? Or of judges who will likely have pension cases come before them. Or of former Chicago Mayors. Or of Chicago Aldermen. Or of CPD Exempt members.

It is just us low life workers who need to have our pensions reformed.

Remember, the entire Illinois General Assembly is up for election this fall.

Speaking of buzzers -- there is something going on regarding roll-up garage doors, of the type used on businesses and especially on apartment or condo buildings with ground-floor garage and living units above, where the driveway goes in across the sidewalk and you enter the garage through a roll-up electric door.

They are suddenly, all over, putting BUZZERS on these doors that go off as they open. It's just starting now.

I don't know if it's city, new federal "safety" meddling, or what, but you can hear some of these things a block away -- let alone in your unit right above? -- EVERY time someone arrives at or leaves the building!

Don't move into a building like this, and don't buy within a block of one.

"They make of life a living hell for no reason..."

It's one of those mandated safety 'warning' things. Problem is, just like those back-up beeping sounds on public vehicles, they're catering to the lowest common denominator (in other words, the darned-near-deaf).

Many elevators have the same type of arrival-beep, on each floor (annunciators, I think they're called). It's so the blind know they've arrived.

Wonderful. And the people who live on each floor, particularly near the elevators, have to be punished by the incessant blare of the annoying beep, all day and all night long. (We found a work-around in my building, but I won't elaborate here.)
