Record Heat

And somehow, the beaches remained open. Was this some sort of oversight?
  • Chicago got some record-setting heat today, with the temperature reaching 97 at O'Hare International Airport to break a record set more than 100 years ago.

The record high for today was 94 (set in 1911), and with today's high being 97, that mark could be beaten by more than three degrees. It's the hottest temperature ever recorded this early in the year, according to ChicagoWeatherCenter.com.

If you're outside, sunscreen is probably a good idea. If you're not, you might want to power up the air conditioner.

And in other news, the Bike Unit, everybody's favorite people after NATO, got their day off groups changed with a mere two days warning so everyone was around for the holiday weekend. In other circumstances, that might be a questionable action on the part of bosses, but a volunteer unit, which the Bikes are, can pretty much be messed with at will. It doesn't make people happy though - two days to rearrange your holiday plans? Just more thanks from Tiny Dancer and his minions.

Big fight involving 200 savages on the North Ave. beach yesterday. CPD had to call in reinforcements to quell the fight. Just shows the potential is still around for a disaster.

How about all the trash on the beaches from yesterday. News is showing trash left behind by beach visitors from yesterday. Crews were having a hard time trying to clean up in time for today. News showed many trash containers almost empty but plenty of garbage all over the sand. Animals at least try to bury their shit before leaving. I suspect those arrogant suburban folks are to blame for the mess. This town has become one large trash can. Detroit is getting closer every day.

That is what happens when you voluntarily give up your contractual rights. Pay heed all you young officers, you can expect more and more of this type of activity under Tiny Dancer. NEVER give up your contractual rights, it will only hurt you in the end - literally and figuratively.

Rahm will show his thanks during contract negotiations with CPD.
Time to tighten our belts , CPD will do more with less because of lost holiday , personal and baby furlough days next contract .
Rumor that we will be force to take all overtime in cash , no more comp time means more police on the street . New medical plan 12 days a year mean more people on the street.

I did the lake front bike unit many years ago now. That's where I met Jerry Finnegan, he was sent there from regular 153 to keep him out of trouble for one summer. They always changed our days off and start times radically under the threat of "go back to the District if you don't like it". It was worth the abuse. The weather sucked at the beginning and end of the detail, but the time in the middle was some of my best times on this job. Even with the contract abuses. Got in great shape, got a tan, and met lots of young tourist ladies.

I hear things have changed drastically from those days in the mid 90's. Leave it to the Department to screw up a good gig.

"...the Bike Unit, everybody's favorite people after NATO..."

We have a real hyper-Daley here. There was a lot of smog blown up around Daley as "the Bicycle Mayor," now Emanuel "the Triathlon Mayor" is doubling up on it.

There's no question that the bike unit does one hell of a good job; it's the politicians playing "green" "carbon footprint" trendy s__t off it that makes me uncomfortable -- embarassed for the sake of the hard-working coppers.

Keep working hard my fellow officers. No matter how badly the city treats you, keep working. Keep writing those parkers, movers, anov's, impound cars, tow cars, make arrests, write contact cards, etc....

I had the misfortune of being on N Michigan Ave. last night . I'm embarrassed by what this city has become. Tourists with their children come here and have to be surrounded by roving packs of savages. Thousands of them, taking over the sidewalk, taking over smaller eateries( one maybe buys chips from Potbelly, Panera, etc.,) fighting , grabbing ass and screaming profanities.
Nice way to showcase the city. Those people who came here to visit will never be back.

Imagine some nice tourists who decide to take a little stroll down the lakefront on an evening this weekend. Walking through tons of garbage left by our local residents. Who the hell would come back to this town and see that stinky mess.

Surprisingly, despite the mess and crime, some tourists return. :O
