Legitimacy and Mutual Respect

It seems the Department has come up with yet another completely useless and mind-numbing bit of tomfoolery to waste money, probably in the form of block grants to storefront reverends or something similar. A sharp-eyed reader found this in the Document Management System and sent it along (B.O.P. #12-0106 issued on 07 May 2012 if you want to find it):
  • The Education and Training Division has been tasked with developing a curriculum regarding Legitimacy and Mutual Respect. 007 and 011 District personnel are the first to receive this training.

007 and 011 districts will select nine (9) personnel from either 2nd or 3rd watches. The personnel may be of any rank below command staff. 007 and 011 will determine how many personnel from each watch will attend. 1st watch personnel will not be selected for training at this time.
There are another two paragraphs about dates, times and contact info. But really? Legitimacy and Mutual Respect? It certainly isn't the cops running around 007 and 011 shooting people on a near daily basis, and then disrespecting the victims/offenders. Ain't nothing legit about all that. Who the hell is getting paid off for this one?

The city entered into a contract with those foreign thieves and it will stand up in court. That will be the Racoon's out. The judge made me pay up. While everyone is praising the outgoing US Attorney Fitzgerald maybe someone should have asked him why this parking meter deal was never investigated by him. And the Speed Camera deal? Corruption goes into the highest places. Selective prosecution.

Take a tip from the City of Detroit's new money-saver. No more street lights at night, particularly on the West and South Sides. Save millions.

Establish a moratorium on municipal flowerbeds and wrought iron fences. Casinos are long overdue. Like certain counties in Nevada, legalize brothels with high taxes for patrons. Also legalize government sales of an ounce or less of marijuana and tax the bejeezus out of it. Also eliminate the embargo on the sales of Cuban cigars within the city limits. Add an additional 50% tax on the sales of 40 oz. bottles of malt liquor, muscatel and mentholated cigarettes.

Utilize prison inmates to dig ditches and general labor for a penny an hour wages.

Completely useless. A problem that will never be fixed due to the enabling done on the part of those in power. All this does is serve to shift the blame for crimes committed from those who do to those who don't; specifically, the police officers who work to arrest those who break laws. This problem will never go away because of the way it's handled. The first step to recovery in alcoholism is to admit the problem. Regarding crime and black communities, this isn't, hasn't, and won't ever happen. Money is dumped (wasted) on the problem so that a politician can grandstand and proclaim how much money he brought to the problem. The issue is, in the end the money is ultimately stolen by community activists, reverends, and the like. Pfleger's billboards offering a $5,000 dollar reward for information on public school students being killed a few years ago? If you remember he was on the news after every kid got killed demanding justice, then he suddenly stopped. After attracting too much heat, he was bought for $5,000,000 to start the fund to give out the rewards if he stayed out of the news. How many citizens have you heard at work talk about someone in any busy district claiming that reward? This problem will only get worse, it's a sickening thing really.

I'll tell you what they should have. They should have a curriculum for all the Illinois and Chicago politicians on integrity.

Example:

Think that signed contracts by Illinois politicians like our union contracts mean anything?

Go ask the parking meter deal people about the $50 million dollars the city owes them based upon a contract that the city signed and see what they say.

In fact there is said to be over $9
billion dollars in unpaid bills in Illinois. Are they honoring their words?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-23/illinois-treads-water-as-unpaid-bills-top-9-billion.html

also, when the don't hold up their end of the bargain sometimes it's put back on the pension paying employee to pay more to enable the politicians to steal more for pet projects of clouted friends.

"...Democratic Governor Pat Quinn has proposed a voluntary 3 percent increase in pension contributions from current employees and a cut in cost-of-living increases for retirees.

“Bold action” is required to save the retirement systems, the governor told reporters in Chicago April 20. In fiscal 2010, Illinois had the lowest-funded state pension in the U.S., with assets equal to 45.4 percent of projected obligations, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. .."

Hahahah ...does the use of the "Bold action" phase invoke a feel-good emotion?

"Bold actions" are good right? How could you be afraid of a "bold action"? The pension debt doesn't scare them they're gonna take a "bold action" and make everyone else pay more and get less.

Man it's way past time to start thinking about the integrity of the people that we're working for. I mean at the drop of a hat they could just stop writing peoples paychecks and not think twice about it. We'll be told that "it's necessary" and that's that.

ILLINOIS CARES? -- NO THEY DON'T NOT ANYMORE!

The House voted 94-22 and the Senate voted 44-13 to adopt the cuts in Senate Bill 2840, which range from outright elimination of some programs – like Illinois Cares Rx, a prescription drug assistance program for seniors – to taking extra steps to ensure that those receiving aid are entitled to it. The bill now heads to Quinn’s desk. […]

Everything that is guiding McCarthy is in a book entitled Dont Shoot: An End to Violence in America. One of the final steps in this parigm is regaining the respect of the community by going before it and admitting that the police has damaged it by trying to arrest our way out of the crime problem. The first step is a public apology- i,e, the St Sabina's speech. Then we admitt we are wrong. The net step is to regain the confidence of the community by reaching out to the community by providing it jobs facilitated by the police. This book also refrences efforts in 11 and talks of what a success it was.

Isn't all this quotas, oops I forgot we don't have quotas. Revolvers don't come in two shots, first of all.

You have to auxiliary qualify with the revolver if you get one.

Better off with a smaller version of your duty weapon (smaller Smith, smaller Beretta, mini-XD, etc.) Then you don't have to requalify with it if it's the same maker and caliber.

Check out the S&W Model 642 Ladysmith Airweight Revolver. It’s made of an alloy not steel and weighs just less than one pound. It’s a 5-shot- no hammer, w/1.5" barrel, and will fit in your pocket. Yes, you’ll look like you have a tumor on your ass, but if you ass is that nice, put it in a front pocket. They should be looking into your eyes or at your breast anyway. Even a 2-shot .38 cal is made of steel and will weigh close to this, and the kick will probably significantly loosen your grip. Carry something you can use, not just something for peace of mind. A good 5-shot vs. a useless 2-shot... and the Ladysmith is Dept approved. And if your ass is that nice… call me!! Just kidding. Good luck, make a wise choice!

It may not be a bad idea. Back when I worked in 011, I saw plenty of times when some of our own officers made certain situations worse by the way they spoke
to the people who called for police service. I even
saw a few times when people who came into the
station were spoken to very harshly by some of the
011desk crews. Now I know a bunch of you are
going to bash me for it, but if you've ever worked
in 011, I know you've seen this stuff happen too.
Lots of times. So I won't say that this class/seminar
whatever isn't needed. During my time in 011, I
managed to make friends with many citizens of
the community out there, and many times those
friends helped steer me in the proper direction
after a shooting or a murder when I worked tact
out there. All I'm saying is, if this class is mandatory, approach it with an open mind. You
just might learn something. True, respect is a

to admit that we've failed on that end as well.

Only had to read a few of the comments to see that you guys already think the same thing that I do. The only lack of legitimacy and mutual respect is to be found in the way that the city treats the police department. From an understaffed force, failing to contribute to the pension, blatant disregard for the contract, to any other number of ways they try to handcuff the most violent city in America's police department from doing their job. The mere suggestion that we need to "respect" people more is BS. It's not the normal hardworking, taxpaying citizens who feel they are disrespected by the police either. It is the welfare funded, criminal sociopaths who live in the hood who don't like the way the PO lice "harass" them. F them, and F the misguided Utopian dreamer liberals who listen to them.

FROM A PRIOR THREAD...

The whole country is talking about CPD. Such a good feeling. Not one fucking word from FOP. Not a congratulations from FOP on their website. Moron Shields gives an interview saying how CPD has cleaned up their image since 68. Hey FOP you work for us. We don't need you to bring up 68 considering you never even been in a riot. You sounded like an idiot. Get your act together and start working on our contract. We did our job now you do yours. Funny how Shields loved the camera when he was making a name for himself and now he is camera shy and doesn't use the opportunity that we blue shirts handed him built on blood, swat and tears. Fellow brothers and sisters we arein trouble with this circus act of an FOP president. The best thing that Dougherty could find to talk about was health care?. I am telling you the same way we held the line with the scum we need to band together against this union. I have a feeling that McCarthy is the least of our problems. Shields and 9.5 are in bed with each other. The President and even liberal members of the media congratulated us. What did Shields and the clowns we elected have to say? What does our FOP website that we pay for have to say? Why is it SCC posts all the congratulations from all over the country and the FOP website has no comment section for us to vent or inquire? Furthermore, why didnt FOP address the expired waters or lack of supplies? Why wasnt FOP out there for us with water or snacks? Or why didnt they open the lodge so we could stop by and pick up water or some snacks or a cup of coffee? Yiu mean to tell me all the money they make and our dues they couldnt prepare some logistics for us? There were plenty of businesses that would have supprted their efforts? Throw that joke of a credit union in there. Papa Johns took care of us SCC you do such a great job!! Just maybe you should be our union. Shields and company shame on you. FOP as of Friday this week I promise you no more am I paying union dues. Brothers and sisters in blue send a message to FOP. Stop the union dues. We showed our worth.

**************************
You're about as fucking stupid as they come.

Just for starters...

You DO realize that you are not entitled to paid legal representation once you're removed (by self or other method) from the union. So when you step on your dick while performing your duties "in good faith", it's all on you, brother. Enjoy blowing thru your savings and losing your home when some savage hits the "Ghetto Lottery" because he says you violated his civil rights. Have fun explaining to the kids that "we're gonna be living with aunt Karen for a little while" or "you'll get used to your new school in no time, Sweetheart".

FOPs got bigger fish to fry than what you declare important. If those petty, inconsequential issues mean that much to you, run for FOP office next time around.
Oh that's right! You won't be able to since you'll no longer be a union member.

Run your mouth less and open your eyes and ears more, jackass. And then go rinse some of that gel outta your hair.

This is an article from yesterday's Northwest Side Press.  Taft High School, A neighborhood school, fails to receive capital improvement funds ONCE AGAIN, while Lane Tech, a selective enrollment school, receives $44 Million dollars.

Taft NEEDS more than 20 million dollars for very overdue capital improvements, but  again is ignored and COMPLETELY left out of the CPS capital improvement plan budget for the next school year!

Where is the alderman?  Why isn't she screaming for money for the ONLY high school in the ward?

Agreed the 7-11 respect training is a waste of time and money.
But one department training needed is a LGBT awareness training for patrol, CID, supervisors and command. We're still provincial rubes when it comes to responding to and investigating gay-related calls.
And the dets have forgotten how to investigate gay homicides - and thats when the "fruit inspectors" at the old Area 6 homicide were handling the cases that no one else wanted. But they were good!

Yeah how about the city refusing to pay for O/T?

AND..

How about the city refusing to pay the bill for the parking meter contract?

How about the city refusing the demand to keep our mental health clinics open?

How about the city refusing the peoples will and installing school zone speed cameras anyway?

How about the State upping the Individual State Income Tax against the will of the taxpayers?

How about the State cutting Medicare, cutting pensions, cutting jobs, handing out tax breaks to billion dollar corporations that don't need them.

How many more years are the corporations going to hold us all hostage demanding tax breaks and if they don't get them they will behead more Illinois jobs?

NOTHING has been done to stop that excuse this year and the next and the next and the next. The old bullshit propaganda that they're the job creators and if we don't give them more tax breaks they'll leave never dies.

You know what we need? We need a "bold plan"! lol

We need some politicians that will stand up to this corporate bullshit instead of playing the battered housewife Stockholm syndrome sufferers.

Half of these so-called corporations are not successful at all. They're not around because of hard work and innovation. They're still here because they are living on corporate welfare bailouts. Making the rounds. One year it's the Federal bailouts and the next it's the State, Local bailouts like Chicago's TIF programs.

We need a government with integrity that when they sign a law it means something. When they sign a contract it means something. We need accountability.

Speaking of respect, what ever happened to the proposed City Council Commendation for the personnel who handled the gay homicide of Randall Hildebrand in 023?
The dets did a great job and soon arrested PoS David Sidener - since convicted and sentenced.

The city's LGBT Advisory Council approved a commendation for the detectives - strongly supported by then-Human Relations Commissioner Dana Stark.

It was kicked up to a City Council Commendation (ranking higher than a Resolution) and was supported by the Mayor's Office (Daley).

But the City Council Commendation was killed by Ald. Tom Tunney who told IGA that he didn't want Daley associated with something as tawdry as a gay murder.

Retired female PO says. Stay out of the frigging forest preserves! Unless you are with several friends, why are you putting yourself in this situation? You are a PO so you live in the city. Go to a park or somewhere else to hike and run. Get a 5 shot snub, a shoulder holster, an ankle holster and a fanny pack. Try to refrain from carrying a gun in a purse as much as possible. Don't think having a weapon is going to keep you safe. You can easily be disarmed, especially when there a multiple offenders.

To the female who wants to conceal and carry. Get some firearms training and do what you need to do. Don't put yourself in harm's way!

I talked to several reps of gun companies at an FOP event who didn't recommend a semi-auto because it could jam in your pocket, etc, if you wanted to shoot without pulling it out.
