Violence has worked tirelessly for 12 years to stop shootings and
killings in cities around the world. By approaching violence as a
disease that can be stopped, we charted a new way that uses the same
science-based strategies used to fight cholera and AIDS.
Treating violence as a disease is more than a metaphor or a model. It is a movement that changes how people think about violence.
That’s why I am so pleased to announce today that CeaseFire is becoming Cure Violence.
They have a fancy new website, no doubt paid with extorted tax dollars. They still haven't deployed a single interrupter or stopped a single shooting. They appear to be waiting for the cold weather to do their "job" for them.
Then Rahm will give them another million that the city doesn't have.

As I commented last week, it costs a lot to wage a tv campaign to tell the public about a name change. About a million dollars' worth.
Was talking to another Officer about this the other day. Just wait a few months until winter sets in and the shootings go down. I bet my next check that there will be some sort of media coverage of how Cease Fire has helped in bringing down the murder rate. I can see Rahm now, surrounded by little "inner city" kids talking about how it was all for the children.

Whether or not SCC agrees with the contract or not, there's just no way to gauge how many shootings Cease Fire has prevented. Just by patrolling a block in a neighborhood and talking to to some youths that appear up to no good, there's no way to gauge how much our police presence has prevented or at least delayed shootings and/or homicides.

the police need to do this when their contract negotiations go nowhere and put ads on tv or when they have ( should do ) news conferances and send the message, and they can use the same forum " its about the children" -violence, safety, health, and the one that really choked me up..... i've talked to many "children" while traveling thru our wonderful beautiful city and i want to say that this (our children) are our future and i just think that when they look across the parks far away and across from where they stand they all see the downtown skyline and ... this is their city their future. we need to think about them !!!

A name change like the type enacted by certain construction companies who build here in downtown Chicago, then before the building is finished they leave in the night like vermin, leaving new homeowner's in the lurch with unfinished condos? Then construction company files bankruptcy under the old name, and renames itself to make itself untouchable?
Ceasefire didn't by any chance happen to file for bankruptcy under that now "old" name, did they?
Also, I was Senior Account Exec for marketing company here. A re-branding can cost close to a hundred grand, if they use any of the big name agencies here for it or if they decided to dish it over to a relative who works at home on their laptop and writes out a huge invoice. Even more $$ if you include all the printed materials, signage, letterhead, self-promos, and on and on.

I think those positions are filled. In any street group of two or more, one is a translator. I hear it constantly.
