Officer Wounded; Assailant Killed
Late last night:
- A Chicago Police officer suffered a graze wound to her leg and a stabbing suspect wielding a hammer was fatally shot late Wednesday in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said.
The female officer and man were shot near the intersection of East 79th Street and South Shore Drive, police said.
The officer’s partner shot the man, said Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden. It was unclear whether the officer accidently shot herself or was wounded by her partner.
At 11:45 p.m, two officers responded to a disturbance at the intersection and saw a man with a knife stabbing another man, police said.
When officers ordered the attacker to drop the weapon but he refused and an officer fired a Tazer, police said.
But the suspect produced a hammer and aggressively charged toward the officers, officials said. Both officers discharged their weapons, police said.
Get well soon Officer. And well done in eliminating yet another threat to the lives of officers and citizens alike.

Yes you have to pay people to go to court and some people have multiple court apperances in different rooms and calls on the same day, it seems to be the norm as of late. Get used to it. First, you need to be in good shape to get out there and do this job. Second, if you think you're being yelled at and picked on, wait til you hit the street. The whole point of all the belittling and swearing and shouting in the academy isn't to hurt your widdle feelings. The point is to make you immune to it, so you don't go off on every 'citizen' who calls you an f-n bitch.

Are you mature adults? As far as the exercise, it's the only time in most of your lives your fat asses will be in shape. I went through the academy twice and I hated all the exercise but I sure liked being paid top exercise and shoot. Plus I wound up fit.

Off topic but I was watching the news and I saw those two ho's that brought down general petreaus(sp) where throwing his name around to contractors and companies that deal with the us military in attempt to get free stuff and moola and it reminded me how that snake in the grass tactical person, lieutenant and tight pants guy used to throw around Judy weezze's name to get lots of free stuff for her group and for themselves. I'm sure their game is still being played at the county level now. No class, morals, or integrity.

If you can't hack it here, wait till some scum bag gangbanger, or other worthless degenerate calls you far worse names, farts while your processing them, yells and screams while your trying to do your report, or have some teenager call you names while their friends videotape you waiting for you to do something to them so they can sue you, and I can go on forever. 1: This is a post about a police involved shooting where an officer was injured- not the place for you comments.
2: If you don't like push ups, become an accountant.

A police officer is supposed to use a level of force higher than that used against them or a victim. Stabbing and hammer equals response by an assault rifle, pistol(s) will do.
If someone looks cockeyed at you, than use the Taser, if they growl at you, use Taser twice. But edged weapons together with a hammer calls for an immediate lethal response.

Nice going office. You just put yourself and all your female PPO's in the spotlight. I'd recommend that you not read this blog for the next several days because you won't like what you'll read as response to your posting.
That said, let me comment on it anyway. The instructors are harder on females probably because they know that at least 90% of them will land in some desk job, in some unit and never see the streets except for coming and going to work.

You can always get a job at Walmart as a store greeter.
This cannot be from a real PPO since they do not get out of class until well after 4pm. Looks like someone is trying to stir up some fake shit.
Story given out by News Affairs was of course the half-assed quick version that makes the situation seem like 2 officers responded and 1 gave the other a little hot foot action Benny Hill style.
A more complete accounting is that all the officers responded to a call of a robbery in progress. First unit on scene sees the offender stabbing the victim and confront him at which time he pulls out a hammer and they fan out trying to talk him down. the second car on scene pulls up and one officer seeing that the offender is armed with a hammer and 2 officers already have him at gun point attempts to utilize the taser he has on him to end the confrontation without anyone dying. The offender charges him after he unsuccesfully attempts to tase and almost takes his head off with the hammer. After the first hammer swing most of the officers fire on the offender and in the process an officer takes a round in the leg. The officer who fired the taser ends up pulling his firearm and when he is charged again neutralizes the threat the old fashioned way.
Great job by all officers involved and not the cluster fuck it is made to seem. No accidental discharge and no stupidity. Crazy guy attacks officers and they respond in a manner that shows they made every effort to preserve life while at the same time wanting to go home safe to their families.

There was one recruit in my class that committed suicide. Had she the courage to
reach out, maybe things would be different today…..maybe she would be in a job in the private sector, living her life, who knows.

This may not be the job for you, but then again, you may make an excellent police officer.
It is all about attitude. Stay positive, develop a thick skin, follow directions, pay attention, and learn all you can.

There has to be a minimum level of discipline while recruits are in the academy. There must be standards otherwise, you will not be prepared for the street. If, as you suggest, a recruit must loose weight, she is given the proper direction and information. But when recruits ignore the information, then the instructors must use stronger methods to achieve the desired results. I can tell you that the recruits heard about this post at the academy and the physical demands will increase next week. The recruits must meet the demands expected of a street officer and excuses are not accepted. We also provide support services with the chaplains and there are several members of peer support of the staff. My advice to the female recruit, study hard this weekend for the test next week and continue to exercise.

The yelling and screaming is necessary. You're going to the ghetto once you get out of the academy. The people there don't believe in talking, they like to yell. The yelling from your instructors is to toughen you up. They're getting you ready for the real world.
The push ups and running is to strengthen your body. You'll be dealing with ex cons who are 250 lbs and have 8% body fat. They won't hesitate to beat the crap out of you and shoot you with your gun. You'll have to chase a 16 year old kid with a gun and he runs like a gazelle.
Your instructors know what they're doing. They know what's ahead of you. You don't know shit. Keep your mouth shut and do what your told.
This is what you signed up for, to be the police. Earn your star and take pride in it. Every officer in the history of this department has gone through the same thing. This isn't a job, it's a calling. We do God's work. We protect the good people from those who wish prey on them.
This job isn't worth the money. It's not worth the heartache and frustration that comes with it. It's not worth the strain it will put on your family and your health. It's not worth all the bullshit you'll get from bosses who are complete idiots.
This job is about doing what's right and making a difference in our community but most importantly it's about being the police. The real police.
If you can't handle that then go do something else. Let someone who believes in being the police have you spot.

This post is from some nitwit who thinks they reinvented the wheel by disparaging cops who have probably a whole lot more time on the job and have been through much more. You show your ignorance and naivete when you state things such as "no wonder no one likes these mean old-timer policemen" It is painfully obvious to me that you are an apologist knocking others who have more experience than you in these matters and who tell it like it is. Most importantly, they are not afraid to tell someone to "MAN UP" if you'll forgive this sexist remark. I don't think you are doing that recruit a service by having her expect civility and coddling while in the academy. She will need to develop thick armor to deal with both the yuppie types and savages and everything in between and to cushion the culture shock she will receive once she is working a beat car. Don't forget, she may be working with YOU in the future and you will have to orient her and undo all the coddling which will be much harder once that behavior is reinforced. She needs to toughen up and do her job. Its people like this that love to file complaints for sexual harassment and the like and ruin it for other women to become accepted by their peers on this job.

To the recruit, this is just a test, it will get easier. We all had to go through it and there were times when we felt like quitting but don't make that mistake. The academy bring plenty of stress but at the end you will graduate and it will all pay off.

To you and the whiny recruit. Why dont you both stfu. I am sure you are a great cop, just look in the mirror and ask yourself. There is a reason MOST of the instructors treat the recruits like that, to weed out the very weak. THe weak ones remain because this coward department is too afraid to fire them. Our academy is one of the more laid back non disciplinary academys out there. You nor the whiny ass recruit you are talking about could handle it. So take your 8 years on and shove it up your ass. Just because you think you are a good cop doesnt mean its true. To the recruit who is whining, if you dont like the way you are being talked to then go back to your bank telling job and move back in with your parents because no one really cares. Welcome to the City of Chicago sister. My line of work is male dominated too. I guarantee you that these instructors won't be the only chauvinistic jerks you'll encounter working for the City of Chicago. City Hall and individual departments are chock full of them.
I've met a lot of great men working with the City of Chicago too.

Are you fucking kidding? You've got to be joking? WOW...this is THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT. In truth you're gettin it a little easy, in my opinion, it should be harder, more discipline.
