O'Hare Hostages

Just another operation targeting tourists:
  • The CTA had no qualms on Tuesday about a group of riders it’s targeting to balance the budget: tourists.

The transit agency wants to raise the one-way trip from O’Hare on the Blue Line from $2.25 to $5 for riders who don’t have single-day, three-day, seven-day or monthly passes. That’s part of a larger plan that also raises the costs of all passes but avoids raising the base fare of $2.25 for riders without passes.

The $5 O’Hare tab would bring Chicago more in line with big cities around the country — although some cities, such as San Francisco, offer faster, cleaner rapid-transit options for the extra cost.
A fast, clean CTA? Bwahahahahahaha.

They've already murdered the convention business in Chicago by nickel-and-diming the people using McCormick Place. Now Rahm's advisers are charging people the second they land at O'Hare to even get off the property. At some point, that is going to factor into economic decisions made by the remaining conventioneers and tourists.

And they act like the only people on the blue line are tourist. How long before we get a discriminatory lawsuit?

And an all day pass is going up from $5.25 to $10.00!! The apple pickers are going to have to step-up their game to break even.

Forgetaboutit.

Cesspool said they didn't target Midway because there were more workers there. Who does he think staffs O'Hare? This is going to fleece workers at the airport who take the Blue Line.

What a tool.

Has anyone ever ridden on BART? (Bay Area Rapid Transit) It's very fast, very efficient, the cars are wider and carpeted. It's like riding your living room sofa to the airport.

Why is it only the Blue line riders starting at Ohare? Are the Midway commuters off limits for the Orange line? Does race have anything to do with this?

A tourist taking the bus? Are you out of your mind? Want to seen them robbed of everything, beaten, stabbed, or shot by one of Chicago's denizens before they even get to their hotel?

O'hare and Midway both have incredibly high prices for everything already. Stop gouging the travelers who have the misfortune to have either landed or must take off from either of those airports.

If you pay ten, you can sit next to a dirty, stinky, urine soaked person and maybe even take home a roach or bed bug.

Why does the city of Chicago think their shit doesn't stink? If you were an investor or a person making the decisions on behalf of someone with money would you relocate your operations to the city of Chicago? If you needed to expand outside of your home base then would you open up shop in Chicago?

My mom and dad owned four gas stations in Chicago. In the late 80's the business climate started heading south. So in the late 90's they sold out and moved away to South Carolina. Here is just one example. The total license fees for one gas station is like close to $2000 per year. In South Carolina in their town it's $200.

$5 is very reasonable for a one way airport to downtown fare in North America. As a tourist, I expect to pay more for things than residents. That's a given. Under this plan's current configuration, Chicago residents who use CTA are actually being subsidized by higher tourist fares. This is a good thing. I'm coming back to your town next year and I don't mind paying extra. Like I said, I'm a tourist. Cities see me as a bottomless wallet. It's cool. I'm over it. There is no place in the world that has a different attitude towards tourists and actually wants them to save money.

I paid $8.40 to go to San Francisco from the airport. Toronto doesn't have a direct airport/downtown connection yet, it's being built, but estimates have pegged the fare at around $15. In Montreal, it's an $8 express bus. In Philly, it's $7-8 for a subway ride from the airport. In LA, it's $7 in an express shuttle. If anything, I could make the argument that Chicago could charge more.

Have you seen the tolls on the Illinois roads? Who the hell would want to visit this city and or this state? I just drove the entire state of Wisconsin. Not one toll and the roads were in much better condition!

Just like it's now cheaper to park in a lot in many parts of the city (ex. downtown/west loop area), it will soon be cheaper to cab it from O'Hare into the city! How much longer 'til the next election? (Though the damage is already done.)

The spin the city's putting on it is that it's not a rate increase, rather "modest reductions in discounts"!
Do they really think people are that stupid!??
I guess after electing 9.5 and Barack Hussein (again), they really are.
BE SAFE & Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

Yep, BART is awesome. Same with the light rail (sort of like a trolley) system in San Jose and Silicon Valley. I lived in the Bay Area for 7 years, and I've been kicking myself since I moved back to this shithole about 10 years ago.

The CTA took buses off NW side again; "lightly traveled routes there are being subsidized by heavily traveled ones on south and west sides."

I guess this "giving back, paying ahead" crap we're hearing now only applies one way.

The city can't push through a premium train to O'Hare from Block 37, so they're going to charge premium prices for the same, ordinary service. Ah, the Chicago Way.

Where else can you go with your family and pay too much for parking to eat an overpriced meal in an expensive hotel in an exclusive part of town and get stabbed in the neck by a violent felon one week out of prison due to early release?

Rahm is getting his wish. North Michigan ave is just as safe as Englewood.

I met a guy who owned a specialty welding company. Employed near 100 skilled workers. City would not budge on property taxes or head tax. Itasca would and did. He moved the company to Itasca. Vacant business sits empty still at Belmont/Western. All those jobs are gone forever. City can pound salt.
