Quinn Leading a Disaster

  • Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn today called on lawmakers to raise the minimum wage, ban assault weapons, allow online voter registration in an annual State of the State speech that sounded a lot like the launch of his 2014 re-election campaign.

Returning to the populist notes that have defined his political career, Quinn laid out a series of choices in a 13-page speech.

“Do we want, in the years to come, a prosperous Illinois where working people continue to have good jobs, where businesses thrive, and where all our children have a world-class education?” Quinn told the House and Senate. “Or do we want to stop the progresss and watch our economic recovery stall?”

Quinn wants Illinois' minimum wage to increase from $8.25 to $10 an hour over the next four years. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, but Illinois' rate has been higher for years. Business groups are likely to oppose such a change.
Economic problems aren't just "solved" by jacking up the minimum wage. These things reverberate throughout the economy. There's a reason no major factories have opened up in Illinois in years and we continue to bleed jobs and a tax base to surrounding states.

You want to see the Illinois death spiral continue to speed up and kill whatever "economic recovery" Quinn is dreaming about? Go ahead and raise the minimum wage. With workers' hours being gutted to avoid Obamacare penalties, businesses will just stop hiring teens at entry level salaries.

I agree with his attempt to raise the minimum wage. First to get it should be all exempt members since they act like they know nothing, they do nothing and they see nothing, pay them nothing.

Maybe if every exempt member came in with 10 contact cards a day then we would pay them more.

Remember one of our fearless leaders said, those that do nothing get nothing, those that produce get rewarded.

In the same breath that Quinn states he wants to raise the minimum wage so people can prosper he hammers away for pension "reform" a.k.a. reduction. He wants to chip away at state workers meager pensions as if they're the cause for Illinois financial mess.
Pat: the state workers aren't the bad guys in this you and your thieving politicians are.

The low information voter, ie, democrat loves to raise minimum wages. They have no idea what it costs, they jut like the idea of more for those poor people. Then, they're surprised that their actions created more of them.

Let's ban firearms! Never mind that the right to own a firearm is in the Bill of Rights. Times have changed! We need to change with them. Only good things could happen from banning firearms, besides, I'll feel good about it. Never mind the tens of MILLIONS of people slaughtered by oppressive governments AFTER they've disarmed them. It couldn't happen here! We're nice "progressives" we only do nice things. Try not to remember that the tens of millions killed were done by LEFTIST governments. Yes Patty, the Nazis were socialists. The communists are leftisits.

Nothing more than a (re-election) campaign speech with no solution to the pension crisis.
Once again, pandering to his voting constituency without any meaningful legislation for the real problems.
And yet he has the balls to run for re-election.

Quinn is clearly laying out who he is depending on for re-election. He's abandoning the middle class and hoping for a huge turout from lower middle class and low income constituents. Billy Daley and Little Lisa will split the middle class vote thus ensuring Quinns primary victory.

Lets hope the Republicans find a decent candidate to run.

Why stop at $10? Why not jack it up to $1000 and we could all be millionaires! The low/no info voter will only hear $10/hr and think it's an awesome idea not knowing that more businesses will just pack it up.

But hey, Quinn said "it's only fair".

The death spiral continues.

Have the democrats changed their mascot from the appropriate jackass to the hammer and sickle yet?

Ever wonder why Republican states are listed as red and Democrat states as blue? It was always the other way around. Well, the leftists in the media decided to change it around to hide the socialist agenda of the democrats. It would be too easy to call them Reds and associate them with communists which was at one time an unpopular title. Devious bastards, aren't they?

But don't worry. They're making your country stronger. They just need to disarm you and keep gays serving openly in the military next to the female combat troops. Then they'll be ready for the Chinese communists.

This hike in the minimum wage is going to kill small businesses. The minimum wage was put into effect not to be considered a way to support a family, but a transitional or starting point while a person went to school or learned a trade which would lead to full time, career type wages. Somehow it has morphed into a way for people to make a full time (if shitty)living. The government says that a two person family is to be considered in poverty if they earn less that 18,000.00 per year. 10 an hour adds up to 20,800 IF the person works 40 hrs per week, meaning just above the poverty line. And just enough to remain qualified for assistance (WIC, Link, subsidized housing, etc). Where is the incentive to do better?

as far as the .25c tax on gym shoes? Bring it on. I but one pair every two years or so. IGAF. Also, thats finally a tax that everyone will have to pay. Besides, at that rate won't they have to sell 4 million pairs of shoes to get a million dollars in tax revenue? how the hell many pairs of gym shoes are sold per year in Illinois anyway?

Businesses employ people who have families who all pay many forms of taxes (income, property, sales, etc.). Memo to dumbocrats- this is known as a tax base. High taxes cause businesses and families to leave which erodes the tax base. Eventually there are more taking out of the pot than those putting in, i.e. Detroit. In a long and illustrious line of shithead politicians from Illinois this guy might be the biggest dumb fuck of them all.

Illinois circles the drain and we keep electing the same families. The average voter in Illinois should have his head examined. Vote them out. Vote them all out.

This Country was founded on the notion that we would send people to represent us. A career politician is an abomination. The very notion that they would represent our interest and not theirs is absurd.

Get rid of every sitting politician, even if you like them personally. It's the only way to be sure.

Raising the minimum wage raises the tax paid by those working for minimum wage.

It also puts a strain on the businesses that employ those who work for minimum wage.

Those companies in turn, pass the cost onto who? You & I.

Then it has come full circle; you're paying an invisible "tax".

Min wage was never meant to wages for head of household to raise a family. It is entry -level wages for a new worker, pt teenage jobs, etc Because there are soooo many unskilled, poorly educated people, such as the influx of illegals , hs drop outs, etc., they think this will solve the labor problems, but it's not and it will only make consumer prices go up in Illinois to cover for these inflated wages

More pandering to the democratic minorities

Now, we have members of two families that have done more to ruin this state then anyone else rattling their swords and thinking about running for governor. Holy Crap Batman !!
