CFD Injured

Said to be "alert and comfortable," but that might just be the morphine talking:
  • One firefighter was injured at an extra-alarm blaze in an abandoned factory in the Back of the Yards neighborhood that was being brought under control this evening.

The fire started in the abandoned L-shaped building west of 48th Street and Halsted Avenue about 5:45 p.m. The firefighter was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment, where he was alert and comfortable this evening, according to the Fire Department.

The factory building is of concrete construction, so was not as difficult to contain the fire as the recent extra-alarm fire in Bridgeport.
Fires and Bridgeport....hmmmm.

Best wishes to the firefighter.

Has anyone noticed the increase in extra-alarm fires in abandoned warehouses the last 18 months or so?

This seems to be way too coincidental to have so many fires when the city has gone for years in between these large fires. I wonder if there isn't a crazy fire-bug roaming out there.

To CFD personnel: stay safe and be careful out there. Hopefully, someone will be, or already is investigating these fires so that CFD does not have to take any unnecessary risks.

No, it's just someone from the Lyric Opera practicing for Die Meistersinger.

Who okayed the idiot to blow fire on the stage?

I hope he recovers, but he never should have tried that stunt.

Do these reporters do any fact checking. 48th and Halsted is in canaryvill, not Bridgeport. Bridgeport ends at Pershing Rd., 3900 south.

Just a quick question. Is the fire bug from the 009th District with the last name of "Dooley" out of the joint/cracker factory? He started a lot of garages on fire back in the day. Maybe he has moved on up to factories?

Speedy Recovery Pal, Stay Safe Brothers & Sisters

Questions:

Who profits from the fire?

Was there an increase in the insurance?

Who wants the land?

Is the answer to any of the above the Daley/Vanecko Crime Family?

Help the fire fighters out.
Stop by Engine 51 at 14th and Racine and buy a tee-shirt. 3 styles, various sizes and only $ 20.00 each and yes the funds do go to buy supplies for the guys on duty.

Way, way back in the day, the southwest corner of 48th & Halsted was the location of the former Chicago Police Stockyards Police Station. The building is gone and the lot is vacant.

"Fires and Bridgeport....hmmmm."
-------------------------------------

Time to start digging into all of the real estate transactions going on in the surrounding area, as well as with insurance companies to see who's been upping their coverage.

Sounds like somebody sees Bridgeport as ripe for development.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes we do. But it is capped at 16% of the people being promoted to that position on the given order. Also the person being nominated has to be nominated for a merit promotion before the test is given. A list of names of the people on the merit list is given to the union BEFORE the test is given. They must take both parts of the exam and have a score of 70 or better to get a merit promotion. There are also rules about time in grade and a few others to get promoted.

You can't take the test on 2009 and then get a "chinaman" in 2013 that will get you promoted. You need a "chinaman" BEFORE the test is given.

Oh also 1 more thing about the CFD merit promotion. If the city uses even 1 person off the merit list as a merit promotion, then before the list is taken down they must take total number of people promoted off the list and multiply by 16 and the promote that many people in ranked order before the list can be taken down.

Ex: if 200 total people are promoted off the Captains list. And the city used ANY promotions off the list as a merit promotion. Then the city would have to promote the next 32 people in ranked order regardless.
So if they use merit for even 1 "superstar" they will reward the 32 people.

I hope that helps.

You want to keep all the men on trucks?Make them all A.L.S. 2 birds with one stone! Better service to the citizens of Chicago, which includes police and fire families too!

Well, every time I was torn up, morphine made me "comfortable." When they put me on the "as needed" machine with the button, I started pushing the button 5 minutes before it was due and kept pushing it for 5 minutes afterwards. Just wanted to stay "comfortable." BTW, morphine didn't take the pain away; it just made it so you didn't care.

My best to the injured fireman.
