Police Memorial Week Info

Last year, the retired members of the Chicago Police Department stood in for the active members as we were involved in the NATO event and restricted from actually attending. That isn't the case this year, but the same folks have put together another guide to the event that will help veterans and new attendees.

Last year, we had issues with the site loading due to the sheer size of the guide. We're not going to embed it into the main page, but we'll link it here and find space for it in the side bar shortly.

As always, reserve your space soon - some places are already booked solid.

To those that have never attended, it is a must at least once in your career. My husband (retired) and I attended twice while he was still on the job.

It is a very humbling experience.

It can also be a lot of fun. Meeting others and sharing the funny war stories. Watching impromptu battle of the bagpipes.
Be sure to go to Tent City.

If unable to attend this year please try to attend next year.

Pension, Contract, Major Manpower Shortage? Three things of many that never ever get resolved. God how I hate this city, state and its corruption and incompetence.

Cheapest and easiest to fly into Baltimore-easy to get to DC from there. Also Southwest flies directly into DC now but I haven't seen any nonstop flights and more costly than the other airports. Dulles is way out there.
I am a former City employee and moved to DC two years ago. If anyone is having a hard time finding a place to stay, I have room for a few people. I don't want my info public but I read this blog regularly so post something if you need somewhere to stay or want to park on my street.

I stayed away from this for years because I knew it was going to be an emotional experience for me. The goof the people in chicago eleceted mayor killed all time due last year. As a new retiree I went last year for the first time as I could not see a family of a an officer killed in the line of duty have to go thru this w/o the support of our brotherhood. It was as advertised an emotional, humbling, and uplifting experience all at the same time. If you have ever knew a police officer killed in the line of duty you should go to this. While there are some good times to be had in the evening we tried to do a good job of policing ourselves. Unfortunately with the acute manpower shortage I can see restrictive time due again this year too. If you can make it please try.

Every PO needs to go to this at least once. I have been twice and it moved me deeply both times.

Be safe brothers and sisters.

From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother.
