Not Guilty - She's Nuts
- Cook County Judge Cynthia Brim, on trial for shoving a sheriff's deputy at the Daley Center last year, has been found not guilty of battery by reason of insanity.
The verdict was handed down this afternoon by DuPage County Judge Liam Brennan.
Brim will now have to report to the state Department of Health for an evaluation of her mental health and treatment. She is due back in court in March.
She remains free on bond, and her lawyer said she wants to return to the bench.
She had the lowest possible ratings from the Bar Associations, yet was returned to the bench more than once. In fact...:
- Brim has been hospitalized five times since her 1994 election after going off her anti-psychotic meds, according to testimony.
In 2004, firefighters removed her from a courtroom and took her to a hospital, said psychiatrist Matthew Markos.
Brim was hospitalized for 20 days after her arrest last year, he said. Markos said at the time Brim was hospitalized, she was catatonic, confused, irrational and showing signs of paranoia and psychosis.
So anytime a cop is convicted of misconduct, the State can't wait to go through his court appearances, dismiss anything pending and pretty much give a free pass to anyone who was convicted via his testimony, even in passing as seen during the SOS scandal.
Have a judge issue all sorts of crazy shit from the bench because she's been on and off anti-psychotic medications for 18 years....what kind of attention should that be bringing from the State? Or from defendant's attorneys?

Why not ask the two people most responsible for the slating of judges throughout Cook County? Those two would be none other than one Alderman Ed Burke and Cook County Commissioner John Daley. Oh the fine public servants that they are. I would love to know who Brim's clout is. There is a 100% dead lock cinch that Brim did not get that judgeship without sponsorship.
One doesn't simply wake up one day and get elected to judge. Not in Cook County. One must be approved for placement on the ballot by John Daley and Ed Burke, the two political heavyweights on the Democratic Party Central Committee.
And collecting over $180,000 salary too!

If she is insane, how can she hand out any court decisions that can be legally upheld?
You are found "guilty" - by a person who is documented insane - you should appeal automatically because the person making the decision is not of sound mind.
Let the Appellate court and Supreme Court of this state back her decisions and show their total incompetence - but - I don't think that would happen. They would have to void her decision, otherwise THEIR integrity would come into question.

I know a few people on psych meds and they funcrion just fine. That's because they TAKE THEM.
A 'judge' who has such poor judgement that she stops taking the meds that maintain her mental health is NOT a person with good enough judgement to sit on the bench and make decisions affecting other people's lives. Period.

I remember a few months back informing you guys about Brennan, this day was set in stone as soon as he was named the judge. This man has a hard time convicting anyone. He once ordered another trial on a DUI because the defense wasn't happy with the guilty verdict. Then during the new trial he found the defendant not guilty. Bleeding heart and no knowledge of the law. This guy is a joke.
The problem is the retention ballots. With 100 or so names, each requiring a check, people just give up and say keep 'em all.
Was watching two "community organizers " on Oreilly last night speaking to the gun culture in Chicago and basically they said that all black people are mentally disturbed and the is why they running around shooting people. They have no other "conflict resolution" skills.

I had a case in the old BR 34 at 51st and Wentworth back in the 70s. The defense atty was Montgomery and the judge was Mark E Jones..Anyone remember that Cop hater?...The two of them were obviously in cahoots cause the case was doomed from the start..Im retired now, but that day was one of the low points in my time on the job. Total hatred and disdain for the Police by both of those two!
First off, Montgomery lives two to the north of the obama mansion on east side of the 5100 block of greenwood. The place formerly owned by jackie grimshaw (think harold washington) and her white husband is right next door. Montgomery's is the largest of the mansions on the entire block. Remember how he played poor black guy who refused to loose his place on the U of I board?
I was an election judge (republican) this last election. A small northwest side polling place filled with seniors (who else votes) and veterans (per their caps worn proudly). I understand people vote for judges,usually for the "ethnic" name (O', ski, skas) in an area such as this.
After talking with most of the voters while they were in line (small midday turnout) you got the message that obama was a lousy president and they were not voting for him but would vote for Romney.
When the consoidated tape came out of the machine all of the election judges were silent....
Obama won overwhelmingly, a few judges were voted in with high percentages. An obvious eastern european name here and there.
There was an OVERWHELMING vote for Cynthia Brim, like 89% of total voters. The large percentages voted for were black candidates. It was weird. Perhaps this is where the voting irregularities are put in; it would be too obvious in black areas.
There is no recourse as you were not in the booth with anyone.
BUT IT SURE LOOKS LIKE ELECTRONICS HAVE REALLY HELPED THE DEMOCRATS TO STEAL ELECTIONS EASILY.

CHICAGO (AP/CBS) — Standard & Poor’s rating services has lowered Illinois’ credit rating, blaming the state’s pension problems.
The New York-based agency said Friday that the rating on the state’s general obligation bonds was downgraded to A- from A. The agency also gave an A- rating to $500 million in general obligation bonds that the state plans to release in February. The agency says the outlook is negative.
Standard & Poor’s credit analysts say the downgrade reflects what the agency sees as the state’s “weakened pension-funded rations” and lack of action on reform measures to improve the state’s worst-in-the-nation pension crisis. Illinois has a $96 billion pension deficit.

She is the best judge in Cook County. I saw her begging for change at 79th and Cottage. She told me she already found the father of the girl who died of a pulmonary embolism guilty of murder. She held the trial at Happy Liquors. She also said she posts on here all the time.
Judge Brim almost started a Race riot in open court one day before her arrest. On March 8,2012 Judge Brim was presiding over traffic court call at Markham Courthouse on Thursday. Judge Brim suddenly stop proceedings just minutes in and began to chastise the white officers in front of the predominantly black audience. Judge Brim left the bench and started to preach to the audience and taunt the officers with racial slurs. Judge Brim accused the officers of targeting blacks and hispanic drivers. She pointed at the officers and said "I'm tired of these white racist cops targeting you" and "these are the people that raped our ancestors" to cheers from the audience. Some of members of the audience even stood up and joined her hurling racial insults at the officers. It took the arrival of more officers and Brim's removal before order was restored. She is Jesse's niece. Nothing will be done. Her salary is $ 181,929 annually. She still receives it....

The single biggest problem in Chicago is the Cook Couty judicial system. Terrible judges and States Attorney Office. A catch and release prison system. Chicago will continue to spiral down until it is fixed.

Montgomery lives at 5026 S Greenwood, it is public record. Last I looked that was on the west side of Greenwood, same as POTUS. I will grant you that it might be two houses down. Correction noted.

what would change this routine result is for all judges to have to be voted 'retain', with the remaining total votes cast counted as 'do not retain', whether marked as such on the ballot or not.

Once again, the FOP for some unknown reason finds it difficult to update the published retirees to anything more current than September 2012. It is just too much trouble for the newsletter committee to be timely in publishing the names of recent retirees.
And that is with the Chair of the Newsletter Committee being a retiree!

The Department sent me to training for a week to learn how to deal with people like Judge Brim. We get called first in case of a disturbance with someone off their meds.
A friend and co-worker was murdered in the line of duty as he was leading one of those fucking ugly things off a CTA bus.
Nothing to sneeze at, an encounter with one can turn deadly in an instant. Never let your guard down. Who would have thought that a police officer might lose his life leading a big fat crazy bag lady off a bus?

You can't sue a judge. They enjoy absolute immunity and considering it is Cook County and since Jesse Jackson is her uncle, well forget it.
They can be charged with a crime for judicial misconduct or removed from the bench but hell, this is Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. What do you think might happen without the aid of Mike Madigan and Cullerton?
Don't think for a second that Jesse Jackson hasn't been behind the scenes pulling strings and he will continue to do so.

She doesn't get re-elected. She runs for retention. Much different. She keeps her job unless less than 60% vote yes on the retention ballot.
Like an aldermanic pay raise. They get it unless they individually refuse the raise.
I've only seen three aldermen vote against their own raises. Helen Schiller who said it was too much and Dorothy Tillman who said it wasn't enough.
Scott Waguespack has refused his raise for several years in a row and he is one who should keep his raise. He is one of the few who is honest and needs the money.

There are, apparently, lots of voters who vote to retain all judges, without I guess a clue as to what they are doing.
The bar associations all recommended against her. So did all the newspapers. So did the IVI/IPO. In the 49th Ward, Alderman Moore and Committeeman Fagus had "No on Brim" on the palm cards they issued.
She still got over 50% in the ward.

Thats not the problem. The problem is that it requires 60% of the votes cast for that judge to be a no vote to keep him from being retained. The dems thru their precinct captains get a group of die hard dems to vote for the judges retention and because of that more people have to vote against them and as you said the list is too long so they just dont vote for the judges

Look scc I tried to tell you this before so here it is again. Tony C had a separation case before the Supt. he was taking kickbacks from his brother for doing nothing in a security deal. The Feds had him all tied up in a bow for lying and handed him to IAd they put him in for separation and the bosses sat on it for months, long enough for Tony to pull the plug and get his credentials and be able to carry as a retired cc. On the judicial retention ballot, an incumbent judge is seeking to serve an additional term. There is no opponent and the retention ballot is non-partisan (no party affiliations listed as is the case for first time judicial candidates).
In order to be retained, a judge needs to receive 60% of the ballots cast in his or her particular race as affirmative "YES" votes. Any judge who would get 40% + 1 negative "NO" votes is gone. Cook County has not voted out a judge seeking retention in almost twenty years.
If a voter does not cast votes in the retention races, their ballot will not be counted in setting the percentages. Only the total number of votes actually cast, "YES" or "NO," are factored into determining the percentages. Each individual judge seeking retention has the percentage calculated in his or her race based upon the total votes cast in the individual races. People who vote for president and governor, but skip the retention ballot do no figure in the calculations.
For the resident of Rogers Park, Judge Brim actually failed to carry the 49th Ward in the retention race last November, but since it was a county wide election other areas put her across. Brim received 63% of the vote countywide, so 37% of the voting public were on to her sorry ass.
First time judicial candidates who run in the primaries and the general election are a different story. The retention ballot is only for incumbent judges.
