Another Delayed Homicide

  • The July 1993 article started the way too many still do. Three people, including two teenagers, had been shot over the weekend, the reporter wrote. Police hadn't arrested anybody. One of the victims, a teen named Keith Cunningham, was in critical condition. Officers said he might not have been the intended target.

Cunningham, 16, was relaxing on a porch on Chicago's West Side as Saturday, July 24, faded into Sunday, July 25. About 12:45 a.m., two gunmen approached on foot and fired several rounds, police said at the time. Bullets landed in the high school student's neck and back. Back home, his mother answered the phone and heard the news.

Like most of the young men struck by gunfire each year in Chicago, Cunningham's name quickly faded from the headlines. But his story didn't end.

After living almost 20 years as a gunshot victim, Cunningham died Friday. The immediate cause of death was sepsis, a complication of the quadriplegia he developed from the shooting. The Cook County medical examiner's office classified the 36-year-old's death as a homicide.
That's a long time. McNotAnAccountant was overheard to ask if it was in the box, and then ordered the officers working that spot to be written up.

SCC...please do a full thread on the savage robbery turned murder involving 2 male black offenders and 2 white victims, a mother and her 1 year old child. Since the rest of the main stream media outlets must feel it isn't newsworthy. Absolutely disgusting.

I'm moving out of this city, not because of the ego-maniacal mayor, not because of the shitty council, not because of the inept Crook County government, not because of the incredibly high sales tax, not because the state's been run into the ground by the democrats, not because of the nit wit governor, Quinn.

I'm moving out because none of this can protect me from the "gun violence" (those dangerous guns!) and I'm still not permitted to protect myself and my family.

I truly wish the best of you good luck.

This place is shot. No pun intended.

The HuffPost has this cute little flashy/interactive thingie graphic to show us the horrors of “Gun Violence” since Sandy Hook. The intensity of the red apparently shows us the wholesale killings by guns across our grand nation.Obviously I noticed the deep long red smear that covers the Miami Dade area & close-by counties. I also noticed that the Chicago area deep red smear was smaller.

Only the careers of cops who pimp themselves out to save a Daley family member from the effects of the laws the rest of us have to follow. What would the fucking Daley family do for any of those detectives? Where is the Daley family now in their hour of need? They will likely say, if anything, that they never asked anyone to show any favoritism.

Why put it all on the line for a fucking Daley COUSIN? A drunken lout of a cousin who grew up flouting his privelege and political connections?

Any cop who becomes a whore for the Daley Crime Family deserves anything they get. Let it be a learning experience for the rest of us.

You're right the press is nobodies friend but neither is DW. The guys a drunken clout covered goof and I also was in 015 when he was a recruit there. Kid was always a goof and his brother MW was worse. MW was the biggest stalker female harassing white shirt scumbag ever on this job. MW had more off duty and on duty CR's for chasing, calling and stalking married female cops than all the white shirts combined. Amazing how both DW and MW always got away with the shit they pulled because there was a heavy connection to the Daley family. The sister was on the body guard detail at one time.
Too bad because their old man seemed like a nice guy. Just more drunken Irish CPD clout and this will probably go nowhere. MW retired early cause of his drunken stalking ways maybe DW will have to go now too.

So that information leaked to the press was damaging? To whom? Anything I ever worked on could be handed over and it wouldn't damage me or the Department.

If anything was handed over to "see the light of day", wouldn't that be a good thing? We protect connected people on this job. I never understood why. Hard, honest work and a clear conscience help you sleep like a baby.
