FBI Shooting
- Two people were hospitalized after a shooting near the University of Illinois at Chicago this afternoon that involved an FBI agent who fired a weapon, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 12:40 p.m. in the parking lot of a Jewel food store in the 1600 block of West Roosevelt Road in the Illinois Medical District, officials said.
One person was shot in the hip and taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, officials said. A second person was also injured and taken to the hospital, but no details were available.
The FBI agent was not injured, according to agency spokesman Joan Hyde. She could not say if the agent hit anyone or why the agent was in the area.
Actually, the feebs have a building right there, too. They are being close-mouthed about the whole thing in any event - no Camden-type speaking for them. Glad to hear the agent wasn't injured.

This sounds and looks like a covert investigation gone south! How did they get a picture of 1 of the offenders in the drivers seat of the vehicle? Was someone wearing a hidden camera? What aren't they saying! How fast can a 50 year old man let alone (offender 2) woman run once they crashed? If they made it past a block without collapsing I'll be a monkeys uncle! I would expect this from CPD Detectives but not the FBI!
Don't care what anyone says, I've had the pleasure of working with many agents from various squads and, like CPD, most have been great people dedicated to their jobs, and a few have been shitheads.
Just wanted to get that out there before all the FBI bashing started rolling in from the uninformed and willfully ignorant.
Hi Craig and Brendan. :)
Its ok if the feds shoot at fleeing vehicles, just dont you boys and girls do it! Different rules for them, baby.
Whenever I get into a situation like that, I always ask myself "What would J-FLED do?"
God love the F.B.I.
Hey SCC, why no coverage on the shooting/car crash in Jefferson Park the morning of March 22. The news called it a road rage incident but something doesn't sound right. Not much info was given about the whole incident and what was said seems more like an intended hit than road rage. Any info?
I work a citywide unit and did not hear anything on this until a friend heard it on the 4 o clock news, keeping it quiet, the Feds don't like to admit to thier wrong doings
The FEDs wont even interview the agent for 24 Hours. Studies show more information can be remembered and the incident is less stressful on the agent.
Not Monday morning quarterbacking, but these guys seem not to do very well in urban setting shootouts. Anyway, glad no good guys were hurt.
They get twenty four hours before they have to make any kind of statement.
If you have worked with thr FBI before you will find out that you will never get the gun that fired the shots and you cannot talk to them for about
(2) weeks period.

And then do the exact opposite.
story in the Tribune about a guy getting 80 years as a result of an FBI sting, quite a story

I would not read into the event. I would not be surprised to learn this was an attempt [armed??] robbery-gone-bad with the agent shooting the bad guy. If so, I say good job... As a fed (not FBI), I worked at the FBI building down the street from there off and on and I often got food over at that shopping center (See-Through Chinese...) There were always a few shit-heads walking around there.
And yes, we get a 24 hr cool-off period before giving a statement after a shooting. However, as a former CPD copper, I'd be more likely to give a statement to police sooner. My agency (not the FBI) defers to whatever local jurisdiction the shooting occurs in to conduct the follow-up.
Also, don't hate the feds, unless you've been unfairly targeted in an investigation. Several of us were coppers before joining the "dark side" and we all have a job to do. You usually get the attitude from the feds who were never the police and never held a real job. Those of us who were the police get the same attitude from them. Mostly because they are jealous that we actually have real experience...
Did the FBI agent shoot the offenders or did he shoot non-offenders? They are staying mum on the whole affair. Makes you wonder what is really going on.
I was talking to the Director of UIC Police yesterday...
You'll love this shit...
First responder to the scene?
That damn Guy on a Bike from Revenue.
Camera footage from the corner cameras of the 600 S Paulina building showed him about 100 feet from the crash site when it happened.
I want to know this dudes background...He Ran TOWARD trouble without hesitation.
Got to give the mouth breather credit...actually kept people clear from the M1 that remained at the scene, and was redirecting traffic away from the crash site until CPD got to the scene to handle it with the Fed's.
Whenever I get into a situation like that, I always ask myself "What would J-FLED do?"

He'd run away.

It's not hate, but rather disappointment in some of you "former coppers." Take this city's cops and compare their shootings with that of the Feds. I'll bet our involved shootings dwarf yours.
When we witness WACO, Ruby Ridge, Det. Airhart (apologies if misspelled) that's enough for us to question your incompetence. Nevertheless, not here to throw stones, but let's see how many Oath Keepers you have within your group(s). Will you stand by your oath? This second amendment battle will show your true colors. Are you red, white, and blue? Or, are you yellow?

You're right to a point. I was in one shooting (on CPD) where I fired and a few others where others fired and I didn't. I often point out to my fed coworkers that the things we do regularly are nothing like being the police in a bad area. We do, however, have our moments.
We also work for a living, just like you. I feed my family and pay my bills, just like you do, with my federal job. Most people who spout bravado are immature and full of shit and their opinions don't really matter to me.
Keep in mind that there are over 100 different federal agencies with law enforcement components, many of which you might not know exist. Waco, Ruby Ridge and Joe Airhart all involved the big name agencies you hear about on the news.
Don't absorb all the rhetoric you hear about how the feds are coming to take your guns. Don't confuse politicians and their agendas with working law enforcement officers, federal or otherwise. We're all Americans and we all are concerned with having our rights diminished, just like you.
I have personally written my state and federal elected officials on several occasions in the past year to express my negative opinion on over-reaching gun legislation that punishes law-abiding citizens and does nothing to reduce crime. Rather than just bad-mouthing federal agents on a blog, how many times have you written your elected officials?
